Two mods can completely overhaul its main cities, making them more immersive than ever. The base game did include several story-specific cities such as New Atlantis, Neon, Cydonia, or Akila City spread out across its 100 star systems, with crowds of NPCs populating them, but two modders have taken to making these citizens feel far more realistic and unique, rather than the more generic characters that came before.

While there may not be too many massive cities to explore in , one fan's idea to introduce more is turning heads in the community although not everyone seems to be too enthused with the idea. While players cruise around the galaxy and explore the thousands of largely barren planets on offer, 's story will undoubtedly drive them toward several major areas of human existence: New Atlantis, Akila City, Neon, and The Key. Outside of these locales, most of the other settlements are small hamlets constructed on planets that don't have an atmosphere that could sustain a society.

One Starfield modder has blended Bethesda's space-faring RPG with another mega-popular sci-fi franchise, Star Wars, by adding Greedo to the game as a companion. Since its September launch, Starfield has seen a large community of modders creating an array of interesting and useful mods. Some of these mods aim to improve some of Starfield's shortcomings, like adding ammo crafting and a planet resource database. Others add cool crossovers to the game, such as Halo's Master Chief armor or a variety of aliens from the Star Wars universe.

However, key quality-of-life additions like city maps still hinder ground exploration.

Thanks to the exploration efforts of one Starfield player, a planet that resembles the iconic Windows XP wallpaper has been discovered in the Settled Systems. Though Starfield was criticized at launch for its over-reliance on procedural generation, it cannot be denied that the underlying system is a technically impressive accomplishment – capable of creating visually impressive planets for players to explore. Worlds in Starfield have different biomes, a wide list of flora and fauna, and even a few unique planetary traits.

Bethesda’s spacefaring role-playing game, Starfield still has many updates to come, according to a new blog post from the developer. is incredibly immersive, and its sheer size is almost mind-boggling, but there are still some aspects to its game world that don't make any sense. Bethesda Game Studios' interstellar RPG is incredibly ambitious, but it still builds upon a foundation established by 2006's. Nearly everything in can be interacted with, and hundreds of NPCs can be engaged in conversation. The game's breadth leads to a number of things that aren't quite as they should be, but other nonsensical features are symptoms of game design, world-building, or just incorrect science.

Starfield is already the best-looking and most bug-free Bethesda RPG to date. While some doubt the power of Creation Engine 2, it can at least be agreed that Starfield looks pretty. From the metropolitan streets of New Atlantis to seeing planets from low orbit, Bethesda has given us an attractive-looking game. But it could always stand to look a little better.

has a vast multitude of companions that space adventurers can meet and recruit to their group. While some have deep and emotional storylines, others have funny personalities or are cool to have around. However, outside the core four Constellation members of Sam Coe, Sarah Morgan, Barrett, and Andreja, the game's other potential ship crew candidates don't get the love they deserve. So far, space adventurers have found a total of 27 different recruitable companions in .

Just before Starfield came out, the game’s reviews were dropped, and a consistent theme was seen within them. Specifically, these game reviewers kept talking about the amount of hours they put into the game overall, not just with the main storyline but within the whole game. Some of the reviewers had put in dozens of hours, and a few had put in over a hundred to two hundred hours into Bethesda’s new title! What that showed was that no matter what kind of gamer you were, you would have quite the adventure ahead of you. As we know now, that was by design.

Starfield has been out for a while now, giving players adequate opportunity to immerse themselves in the Settled Systems. The game has been praised for being the most polished Bethesda-developed title to date, and for its clever twist on its New Game+ mode.

Bethesda's CEO, Todd Howard has addressed some of the cut content in . The space ARPG was already an ambitious title, with a vast galaxy of over 100 planetary systems, and over 1000 planets — both handcrafted and procedurally generated — to explore, but Howard's recent comments suggested that exploring them could have been a more challenging task for players with resource management being more at the forefront of the game in its earlier stages of development.

Ship Parts serve as a healing item for your ship in Starfield, but they can be quite scarce early on.

Starfield is filled with locations for players to discover organically. Whether they’re completing missions or simply exploring the game’s universe has many enticing cities and settlements to stumble upon. However, some seem more obvious than others.

I've read several comments here and elsewhere that Bethesda's Starfield is "a mile-wide but deep as a puddle", or variations on that theme. Said commenters might be tickled to know that there is, in fact, a puddle in the game's Akila City that contains infinite loot: by dint of peering into it, you'll magically gain access to a nearby store's inventory. Strip the shelves, then wait a day or two, and you'll be able to do so again, forever and ever. Or at least, that was the case till this week's Starfield patch, a small update consisting of exactly ten bulletpoints, including one that tackles "an issue that allowed for a vendor's full inventory to be accessible". Boo! Time to go looking for another convenient in-game metaphor, I guess. Perhaps there's something incredibly clever you can say about all the flying cities.

An update for Starfield has been released today, but temper your expectations: the patch is a small one aimed at closing some exploits and fixing a few bugs. Perhaps the best element of many of these side quests, however, is the exceptional rewards they offer the player.

The Trade Authority is a major chain of vendors found throughout the Settled Systems of . They are infamous for their open trade policy. They'll take anything you have to sell, including contraband. You can find both official Trade Authority shops and smaller kiosks in the major towns and settlements of .

features a number of Enhance! stores that make it possible to change the appearance of a player character, but one is the clear winner among the pack. Appearance isn't necessarily the most crucial aspect of, as first-person mode is the default experience, but the inclusion of a third-person feature does bring make it possible to bring looks to the forefront. Whether curating a nice style for third-person or simply wanting to rest assured that a character looks as good as it could, Enhance stores provide a nice option that is by no means unwelcome.

The depth of customization available for your ship in allows you to add Workbenches and other Crafting Stations to your vessel to make or improve items wherever you go. These areas can only be included by picking specific module parts when building your ship. The delicate balance between the moving sections of your star-soaring craft can make this process tricky but possible.

The Hunter is one of the most enigmatic characters in that shouldn’t be ignored. With so much to explore and so many people to meet, it is easy to overlook some characters, especially those that can only be found when straying from the beaten path. However, 's The Hunter stands out among the rest of the game'sNPCs, and with good reason, as people will learn as they progress through the game.

Traits in are part of your character creation that gives you a special positive and negative origin that affects how you start the game, but these backgrounds are something you can choose to lose. If, for whatever reason, you dislike the trait you picked, each can be nullified in different ways as your journey unfolds. Those playing on PC even have the option to use console commands to give themselves a new trait entirely.

, like many of Bethesda's past RPGs is a game full of choices and consequences. Most often, major choices in any given quest line will come through dialogue or optional objectives clearly marked in the quest log. However, there's one choice players don't even know they're passively making, which can have devastating consequences later on in the game's main campaign.

gives you tons of options to build your ship to resemble iconic sci-fi vessels, including the ominous space station of the parasitic robots from known as The Borg Cube. The infamous location where countless members of the United Federation of Planets were assimilated, this machine can be tricky to recreate. Even the simple design of the Cube requires plenty of effort.

Another day, another Starfield exploit. This one lets players plunder the inventory of the poor unsuspecting shopkeeper in Akila City.

If you've been a fan of Bethesda games for a while, you'll more than likely be well aware of the Invisible Dawnstar Chest glitch from Skyrim. Our favorite weapons of Starfield are in multiple rarity tiers — and many of them can be found very early in the game — but they’re all uniquely powerful. If you’re going to fight for your faction, you can quickly build up a massive bounty in Starfield. If you want to experience every activity in the galaxy, you’re bound to make one of the factions angry — whether you’re stealing valuable resources, pickpocketing, or going into full-on piracy. If you wage war against a faction, you’ll earn a hefty bounty that must be paid off if you want to return to their settlement. Below we’ll explain everything you need to know about removing bounties.

The galaxy is a big place in Starfield — and it isn’t easy to remember where every major settlement is located. Once you run out of mission objects pointing you in the right direction, you may want to revisit (or check out for the first time) different major settlements with all the amenities you’ll need to stay fresh and ready for adventure. Normally, you can tell which star systems have a major settlement because the name is highlighted on the galaxy map — but this doesn’t always help.

One of the biggest draws of any Bethesda game is the factions, and Starfield is no different — with plenty of different factions to either pledge your allegiance to or wage war against.

There are four major factions you can join in Starfield and you can sign-up with them all. From the rich fantasy settings of The Elder Scrolls to the post-nuclear wastelands of Fallout, Bethesda Game Studios never fail to deliver immersive worlds that are brimming with rich lore and backstory, and it seems that’s going to be the case for the vast space-faring setting of the upcoming Starfield as well. Not too long ago, Bethesda released three animated shorts to highlight that very aspect of the experience, and now, the company has shared yet more fascinating narrative details.

I've been bolting together some ideas for a longer Starfield feature and while plying the sliplanes of Reddit, stumbled on this conversation about the game's handling of time. As many of you will know/be very weary of hearing, Starfield features hundreds of planets, together with moons and space stations, scattered around the galaxy in different solar systems. Real-life planets, of course, aren't fixed points: they rotate and orbit their stars at the different speeds, depending on their mass and distance, which means that days, nights and seasons have different durations.

The Starfield anime series is suddenly, inexplicably here, as RPG game developer Bethesda drops three entire episodes detailing the characters, worlds, and more in the upcoming space adventure, with the Starfield release date also rapidly approaching. We already know a bunch about the follow up to Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Skyrim, but the new Starfield animations offer additional details on The Settled Systems, mechs, Akila City, and the entire Starfield galaxy, and you can watch all three episodes now.
