While tens of thousands of gamers are enjoying Hades 2’s recent early access release, thousands more are looking back to indie developer Supergiant Games’ previous titles. While Hades 2 has quickly become the indie developer’s most-played game of all time, the first installment of the Hades franchise has also just broken its all-time peak concurrent player record, four years after launch.

A Fortnite leak revealed on May 6 shows off the original idea for Pandora's Box in the game. Fortnite is in the middle of a Greek mythology themed season, with Pandora's Box being part of the central focus. Near the end of Chapter 5 Season 1, a Titan’s Hand pulled the box out of the ground during a live event on March 2.

It is shocking to see that Hades 2 is only in early access, and that Supergiant Games plans to let it spend at least the rest of 2024 there before it’s ready to call it version 1.0. Shocking, because it already has just about everything I want from a sequel to one of the best roguelite action games of all time. Hades 2 manages to keep everything that made the original such a masterclass of design, but it does so in a way that changes up how each of the pieces fits together and gives it its own unique identity rather than feeling like a glorified expansion. The result is a familiar, but fresh follow up that challenged, surprised, and delighted me with every triumph and failure in equal measure. There are a few things missing, with an actual ending to its story being the most substantial among them, but once it’s complete it’s hard to imagine Hades 2 not living up to the mythological legacy of the first.

A recent job listing on Santa Monica Studio's website hints at a new God of War game in development. The God of War series capped off the Norse saga with 2022'sRagnarok, which was followed up with 2023's free-to-play Valhalla DLC, both of which set up plot lines for future games.

We’re not complaining, as that game was one of the best games released in 2020, and no one expected a sequel at all, let alone one announced so soon. Hades 2 will be the first sequel studio Supergiant Games have ever made, and it makes sense given how successful and popular the first game ended up being. Aside from some notable exceptions like Rogue Legacy 2 and Spelunky 2, not many roguelikes ever get a direct sequel, so there’s a lot of mystery surrounding how Hades 2 will be different from the first game. But there’s no need to dive into the depths of the Underworld yourself in search of answers, as we’ve pulled all the information we could from the jaws of Cerberus.

As many fans know, Assassin's Creed Red has been the codename for the franchise's open-world RPG set in Feudal Japan. Sometimes these code names carry implications about a title, such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla's codename being Kingdoms, representing the game's structure.
