2020's Hades was game of the year for so many, and it's clear why.
The rogue-like game did something quite different with its combination of Greek myths, procedurally generated and slow-burn story, and character development. It also looked fantastic, and had a talented voice cast to boot.
Recently, it even made its way onto Netflix games, and has managed to reach a new audience of players four years on.
The sequel, which was announced at 2022’s Game Awards ceremony, has had fans eagerly anticipating the return of Hades — and if it's anything like its predecessor, it’ll be superb.
So, what do we know about Hades II? For a start, it's developer Supergiant Games's first ever sequel. It's still early days, but we're going to share everything we know below.
Unsurprisingly, there isn't a solid release date for Hades II just yet. However, apparently development began in 2021, and an early access period will begin later in 2024.
Although, Supergiant Games has just announced that a technical test for the game is now available to sign up for.
It will sample a small number of players and will only offer limited access to the game, but it will help the developer ensure it runs smoothly for when the early access period begins later in the year.
Signing up to the Hades II technical test is easy, and can be done by clicking 'request access' on the game’s official Steam page.
Hopeful testers can find out more information on signing up on Supergiant Games's website.

In such early days, there is no option to pre-order — but we'll update this page as soon as anything changes! However, it can be added to your wish list on Steam.
The first Hades was released across pretty much all platforms. Or rather, it was eventually.
Supergiant Games has announced that Hades II will be released on PC and consoles — but didn't specify the consoles. We assume PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S — but who knows about the Switch and previous-gen consoles?
Again, we'll update this page as soon as we know any different!
No Zagreus this time. Hades II's protagonist is Melinoë, Zagreus's sister and princess of the underworld.
It looks like we'll be controlling her in her quest to defeat the time fiend Chronos. We don't know much more, but we can't wait to kill some time with her (not sorry).
The gameplay looks to be very similar to the first. Let's face it, why fix what isn't broken?
There is indeed a Hades II trailer, released at the Game Awards in 2022. Enjoy!

Hades 2 developer Supergiant Games has signaled the end of the game’s technical test and early access launch soon afterwards.
Supergiant Games’ technical test for Hades 2 will be coming to an end on April 29th. As promised, it went on for longer than a week and less than a month, but appears to have been successful. The team has identified and addressed “a number of key issues we weren’t able to find before.” After it ends, early access will launch “relatively soon” after.
With each Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 season, we can expect a mid-season refresh — and we’ve got an expected release date for CoD MW3 Season 3, as well as what content we might get.
Just like Zagreus’ never-ending quest to escape the Underworld in Greek mythology, it seems we too are destined to continue fighting through new levels of demons and monsters in the sequel to the amazing roguelike Hades. We’re not complaining, as that game was one of the best games released in 2020, and no one expected a sequel at all, let alone one announced so soon. Hades 2 will be the first sequel studio Supergiant Games have ever made, and it makes sense given how successful and popular the first game ended up being. Aside from some notable exceptions like Rogue Legacy 2 and Spelunky 2, not many roguelikes ever get a direct sequel, so there’s a lot of mystery surrounding how Hades 2 will be different from the first game. But there’s no need to dive into the depths of the Underworld yourself in search of answers, as we’ve pulled all the information we could from the jaws of Cerberus.
Earlier this week Hades 2 developer Supergiant announced its technical test, which players can sign up for now ahead of the game hitting early access.
For 20 years, World of Warcraft has dominated the online role-playing games space by providing its fanbase with frequent updates to gameplay and content, such as the popular Wrath of the Lich King and the imminent The War Within expansions.
Supergiant Games just treated Hades fans to an extensive look at the game's upcoming sequel. Seriously — the developer hosted a three-hour livestream that showed off Hades II's gameplay, new features and mechanics, as well as the new designs for its characters based on the gods of Greek mythology. Supergiant's Creative Director Greg Kasavin and Studio Director Amir Rao demonstrated the abilities of the game's new protagonist, Melinoë. While she's the sister of Zagreus, the first title's protagonist, and Hades II is a direct sequel to the original, Kasavin and Rao said players don't need to have prior knowledge of the first game and of Greek mythology to enjoy it. Old fans, however, will catch «delightful references» here and there.
The technical test for Hades 2has barely begun, but first-looks at the game have already set feeds on fire. Supergiant Games released a version of the game to a limited number of players on Wednesday. But instead of keeping details of those playthroughs under wraps, the developers busted the doors to its mythical underworld wide open and streamed roughly three hours of gameplay on its official YouTube channel. Now, everyone has gotten their first big look at the game and social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) have become the worshipping grounds for all of the game’s sexy Greek gods.
Super fans of Hades will soon get their first chance to get their hands on an early version of the game’s sequel soon. According to the recent update from the developer Supergiant Games, the team is “close” to launchingHades 2 in early access, but before it does, the game will have its first “technical test.” The team didn’t specify how long the technical tests will run, but we know they will “begin shortly,” via X on Tuesday.
