While there may not be too many massive cities to explore in , one fan's idea to introduce more is turning heads in the community although not everyone seems to be too enthused with the idea. While players cruise around the galaxy and explore the thousands of largely barren planets on offer, 's story will undoubtedly drive them toward several major areas of human existence: New Atlantis, Akila City, Neon, and The Key. Outside of these locales, most of the other settlements are small hamlets constructed on planets that don't have an atmosphere that could sustain a society.
Posted to Reddit by user Fantastic_Basket_111, the fan shared a piece of concept art for what a large-scale human city could look like on one such planet that doesn't have a breathable environment.
They note that it would be a fun change of pace to explore a location that supports its own ecosystem on an otherwise inhospitable but still resource-filled planet. While many fellow fans praised the idea as an innovative pitch to spice up 's lack of variety when it comes to planetary exploration, others don't think it'd be a good fit for the game.
While still praising the concept as an interesting change from the likes of New Atlantis and Neon, many pointed out that already has plenty of oxygen-rich planets, so humans spending so much time, money, and effort to construct massive domes on inhospitable soil doesn't make sense. Additionally, given the prevalent existence of several hostile terrorist factions in the game, having a city encased in a massive dome could be a severe risk when it comes to potential attacks or invasions. It would be much easier to pressurize individual buildings rather than an entire dome.
Despite some of the criticism, there's no doubt something to the idea of introducing dome settlements into. Outside of the game's main cities, humans largely live in small collections of tiny, industrial homes that serve as outposts and while that makes logical sense in the setting, they're not all that interesting to discover. In a game that asks players to explore the galaxy and embed themselves in the world of the future, a bit of variety would certainly not go amiss.
Hopefully, future updates and patches for will address this lack of variety. Bethesda has confirmed that it's currently working on several substantial updates that will introduce a plethora of features requested by the community while the DLC is scheduled to arrive in mid-2024. It seems doubtful that dome cities will be included in any future patches but it's nonetheless still fun to think about.

Imagine!
