Starfield is finally set for release on September 6th, and there are three new Starfield-related animated shorts in an anthology series called “The Settled Systems”. Each centers around different protagonists and gives us a peek into the cities in the systems.
Creating an anthology of animated shorts follows through with how “Starfield imagines a world where humanity inhabits the vastness of space”, according to the intro. The animated shorts don’t have any dialogue, so their visuals and animation quality are what tell the stories most clearly. You don't even know the character's names aside from how each of the animated shorts has a written description.
Each is under three minutes long, and judging from the contained mini-stories within, when Bethesda releases their long-awaited new RPG in September, we are in for a number of character decisions and storytelling.
The first, “Supra et Ultra", follows a courier pilot named Kent who dreams of one day living in one of the better parts of the systems. As he makes his deliveries in the big city, he marvels at his surroundings and dreams of better for himself. Luxury, a big, fast ship, and adventure. And he goes for it.
The second animated short, “Where Hope is Built” features an orphan named Vanna. She is from Akila City and experienced the Colony Wars. She too wants adventures elsewhere, dreaming of exploring the stars someday. Yet, her ship is broken and needs repair parts and the search to get some will bring her to a dangerous and meaningful decision.
The final new short, “The Hand that Feeds”, follows two young protagonists on the streets of Neon. Ada and Harper make a (dishonest) living stealing from those who come to the city, also known as “pleasure city”, to wind down and have some fun. This time, Ada faces a moral dilemma and draws the attention and an offer from the huge Ryujin Industries. Decisions will have to be made.

From the rich fantasy settings of The Elder Scrolls to the post-nuclear wastelands of Fallout, Bethesda Game Studios never fail to deliver immersive worlds that are brimming with rich lore and backstory, and it seems that’s going to be the case for the vast space-faring setting of the upcoming Starfield as well. Not too long ago, Bethesda released three animated shorts to highlight that very aspect of the experience, and now, the company has shared yet more fascinating narrative details.
The first ever MMO I played at my first E3 was Star Trek Online. It was when it was making the shift to console, and the first prototype of the Xbox version was playable. While I will always hold that meeting close to my heart as Cryptic was the first company to give me a one-on-one as a lowly freelancer, I never much played Star Trek Online after that.
About 40 minutes into Netflix’s new spy thriller Heart of Stone, protagonist Rachel Stone (Gal Gadot) and her team are attacked in a safe house in Portugal. After a thrilling fight filled with impressive stunt falls and breaking glass, Stone drives an unwieldy van through the narrow cobbled streets of Lisbon, chased by vehicles filled with baddies firing guns at her and her team.
David Gordon Green has opened up about coaxing Ellen Burstyn into returning to The Exorcist franchise after fifty-some years.
Do you know about dark matter? According to ESA, in the vast space between galaxies and stars, the seemingly empty space is filled with mysterious matter that we cannot see. This matter has a strong pull, which bends the light coming from stars as it travels to Earth. To understand this phenomenon you can imagine a prism that bends the light through refraction. This bending effect is called gravitational lensing. Scientists have watched this for a long time and realized that there is some mysterious matter and force that cannot be explained by regular things we can see, like cold hydrogen atoms. So, they gave this missing matter a name: "dark matter." It's called "dark" because it seems to only interact with light and normal matter through gravity and it cannot be seen or detected through normal sensors. Scientists have tried really careful experiments, but they haven't found any other ways that dark matter behaves. Even though they've studied it for a long time, we still don't know what dark matter is made of. It's like a puzzle that scientists are trying to solve.
Following in the footsteps of the iconic Hubble Space Telescope, NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has looked ta the farthest star ever detected called Earendel. This star was first glimpsed using the Hubble Space Telescope, and Webb's special camera called NIRCam has zoomed in on it now and revealed it to be a super-hot and super-bright B-type star, much hotter than our Sun.
I've been bolting together some ideas for a longer Starfield feature and while plying the sliplanes of Reddit, stumbled on this conversation about the game's handling of time. As many of you will know/be very weary of hearing, Starfield features hundreds of planets, together with moons and space stations, scattered around the galaxy in different solar systems. Real-life planets, of course, aren't fixed points: they rotate and orbit their stars at the different speeds, depending on their mass and distance, which means that days, nights and seasons have different durations.
Sega have formally unveiled the next steaming helping of Total Warhammer 3 DLC, Shadows of Change, which adds three Legendary Lords to this already-jam-packed strategy game: the Changeling for the demonic Tzeentch faction, Yuan Bo for Grand Cathay, and Mother Ostankya for Kislev, plus a brace of new campaign mechanics, units and battlefield abilities.
There's no denying Skyrim's brilliance, but if I had to pick a fault with it, it's the lack of a quest-giving feature in towns and villages (unless, of course, you resort to mods). Thankfully, that won't be the case for Bethesda's next mammoth RPG offering, as producer Jamie Mallory has confirmed that Starfield will feature mission boards.
If you’re a fan of the Star Wars franchise, then you might understand that there is a dark underbelly in the galaxy. Most might instantly think of the Jedi and Sith as being the focal point. But those that are not Force-sensitive have other areas to worry about. We know that there are a few criminal syndicates that thrive in this galaxy, with the Hutt Clan being one of the more notoriously known. However, if you dig deeper into the franchise, you might come across other notable crime syndicates citizens are fighting back against or aligning with. You’ll find that these criminal syndicates will play a big role in Star Wars Outlaws.
It's been over three years since Nintendo released Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and now its fans are ready to talk about their least favorite feature in the game.
