Rainbow Six Siege, or R6 as you may prefer to call it if you're typing in a hurry, is kicking off a new season of content today (Tuesday 12th March).

In a bid to redeploy «resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six», Ubisoft has today announced the cancellation of its free-to-play spin-off of The Division series, The Division Heartland. The move arrives as part of a bigger restructuring within the French publisher that's geared towards focusing on fewer but bigger games, such as the newly revealed Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The Division Heartland, the now-canceled free-to-play take on the looter shooter series, was originally set to be a battle royale mode.

Ubisoft has provided extensive updates on its upcoming titles for the fiscal year, primarily Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws. In its full-year 2023-24 earnings release, the publisher confirmed that both titles would receive “updates” at Ubisoft Forward on June 10th.

French publishing giant Ubisoft has reported €2.3 billion ($2.5 billion) in sales for the year ending March 31st, 2024.

As Ubisoft revealed Assassin's Creed Shadows they also released their earnings report for the financial year 2023-2024. Buried among the chatter of "profitable growth trajectories" and "B2B partnerships" was a brief note about looter shooter The Division Heartland. "Ubisoft has decided to stop development on The Division Heartland," it reads, "and has redeployed resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six." Ah, so this is the games industry equivalent of being summarily dumped by text.
