Bethesda Games Studios are thinking about how they can release games more frequently while still ensuring that they have a healthy audience for years, the Elder Scrolls company's king wizard Todd Howard has remarked in an interview with Kinda Funny, from which Alice B has already scientifically extracted some titbits about forthcoming Starfield expansion Shattered Space.

Starfield’s biggest update since the Bethesda space game came out last year (remember that?) is arriving in a couple of weeks - with its Steam beta already live now, if you’re interested in poking around. The chunky patch finally tidies up the game’s oft-complained about surface maps to make them easier to navigate, as well as introducing new difficulty options, a decoration mode for the inside of ships and a bunch of other tweaks and fixes.

The next big update for Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield is arguably its most exciting, with new gameplay options, proper Surface Maps and more display modes on Xbox Series X. But what about the future? The development team confirmed other features in development, including the game’s first land vehicle.

Bethesda Game Studios’ fourth major update for Starfield launches on May 15th with many quality-of-life features and improvements. As director Todd Howard promised, there are “other display modes” for console players, which means you can finally play the game at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X.

Starfield’s largest update yet is launching on May 15th. It adds several much-requested features, like proper Surface Maps for planets, indicating points of interest and markers for vendors in the major cities. You can fast travel to the latter from the map or your Scanner, which should make it much easier to quickly sell excess items.

A player-run troupe of actors will be performing an adaptation of Richard III in Fallout 76, featuring a "ghoul" in the lead role. They're partly inspired by the recent Fallout TV show, which puts a jaded cowboy ghoul in a pivotal role and has lead to an increase in players of the online multiplayer RPG. This production will likely be more faithful to the bard than to Amazon Prime. It will open with the lines: "Now is the nuclear winter of our discontent."

For all long as the Fallout franchise has been around, it has never been set outside of the United States. Fallout is all the craze these days, especially off the success of Amazon’s recent TV show (recently renewed for Season 2). Though older titles like Fallout 76 and Fallout 4 have received impressive bumps in player numbers, the latter celebrating its Next-Gen Update launch, it wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft is thinking of ways to capitalize on the show’s success.

So, there’s a prestige, high-budget TV show based on Fallout, and it’s not only pretty great, it’s also so successful that a second season has already been greenlit. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this is how unsurprising it has become – how little time it took for us all to become blasé about video games properties being adapted into high-quality, well-received TV shows and movies. Go back in time only ten years or so and try to explain that this would happen to anyone in the industry, and they’d think you a hopeless optimist at best.

There's a new public event to try, as well as combat readjustments that'll be drip fed over the course of the test period. Anyone who owns the game on Steam can give these things a go, which is a bonus, too. I think I own it? I genuinely can't remember. Anyway, yes, maybe I'll hop in and see how things have changed since, errr, launch.

Amazon Prime's Fallout TV show has been renewed for a second season.

This will not come as a surprise to anyone, given the widespread acclaim that Amazon Prime’s Fallout series has enjoyed since it premiered in full last week, but the show has now been officially greenlit for a second season.

By now, you’ve probably heard that the Amazon Fallout show is accurate to the video games, down to the last detail. In fact, Fallout: New Vegas happened in this universe, and they’re all part of one big Fallout continuity.

Bethesda Game Studios has promised some significant updated for Starfield in 2024, from “new ways” of travelling to new gameplay features to the launch of its first expansion, Shattered Steel. Thus far, however, more than a quarter of our way into the year, details on those updates have remained scant, even if the space RPG has received a couple of patches.

From Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to HBO’s The Last of Us, we’ve seen plenty of recent examples of acclaimed game adaptations that have led to tangible, significant boosts in player numbers and sales for the games they’re based on, and another series has now joined that list. Amazon Prime’s Fallout show premiered all eight of its episodes last week, and amidst widespread acclaim, it has also led to several Fallout games enjoying boosted numbers.

Bethesda is preparing to roll out a significant update for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of. Last-gen players will also benefit from improved stability and a variety of fixes. The game also has two new free creations, adding a variety of new weapons, clothing, and settlement items.

The wait for Fallout 4’s next-gen update has been longer than expected, but Bethesda has announced that the game will finally be getting its native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions later this month, on April 25. That, it turns out, will also be accompanied by some notable movement for the game in the PC space.

With the likes of The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane, Castlevania, and more, we now have more than a few examples of film and TV adaptations of video games being done right. It now looks like another name has joined that list, and jumped straight to its top end.

Last week I went to a screening of Amazon and Bethesda's Fallout TV show, a spin-off yarn starring Ella Purnell (who voiced Jinx in the Arcane Netflix adaptation) as a recently surfaced Vault Dweller, scouring the irradiated wastelands for [SPOILERS REDACTED]. It's early days, but the show's first two episodes didn't make a massive impression on me, though I will concede that the sight of Amazon's branding on Fallout's infamous Please Stand By emergency broadcast titlecard makes a dangerous amount of sense.

Originally set to premiere on April 12, Amazon previously announced that its Prime Video Fallout series had been moved up to go live on April 11. Now, the show’s release has been moved up by another day. It’s been announced that all eight episodes of the first season of Fallout will premiere on Prime Video on April 10 at 6 PM PT.

Amazon’s Fallout TV series has looked increasingly promising with each now showing, and ahead of its imminent premiere, excitement is continuing to build. Film and TV adaptations of video games have seen a sudden reversal of fortunes over the last couple of years, and looking ahead, there’s every reason to believe that’s set to continue. Amazon’s Fallout series, for instance, has looked promising each time we’ve seen glimpses of it, and with a little over a month left until its premiere, it continues to do so with a new trailer.

In fact, even though full, official mod support for Starfield – which will open up the Creation Engine toolset to the community – won’t arrive until sometime later this year, the sci-fi RPG’s modding community already seems to be quite active.

When a game sees unwanted changes or is the target of backlash, it’s not odd to see its user reviews turn negative. However, with Bethesda Game Studios’Starfield, its Steam user reviews have been slowly plummeting since its launch.

Bethesda’s consistent support for Fallout 76 by way of updates, fixes, and content additions has been key in the game’s reversal of fortunes, and as you’d expect, 2024 will see the developer continuing to add to the online RPG. In a recently published blog post, Bethesda has offered details on what its 2024 roadmap for Fallout 76 will entail.

Fallout 76 has seen one of the more remarkable turnarounds we’ve seen for a game in some time, and after a rough launch (to say the least), with consistent support, content additions, and updates, the online RPG has amassed a dedicated and engaged fanbase- one that keeps growing.

With the year coming to a close, Bethesda Game Studios has announced that the space-faring RPG Starfield has topped 13 million players. This is just a few weeks after Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer revealed over 12 million players across all platforms.

Open your map in Starfield and you won't see much more than a height map, even in cities. If you want to then travel around, you're limited to walking huge distances when on planet surfaces and using fast travel spaceship hops when in outerspace.

Starfield's cast of sidekicks includes cowboy dad Sam Coe voiced by Elias Toufexis, also known as the voice of Adam Jensen in Deus Exes Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. This wasn't the role Toufexis was originally hired for, however. The actor revealed that he and fellow voice actress Cissy Jones, who voices romanceable party member Andreja, were originally hired to voice Starfield's protagonist.

Bethesda's Starfield is awash with things to eat or drink, from half-eaten club sandwiches to bits of steaming alien gizzard, but chugging your fill has always been fussier than it needs to be, involving a trip through the game's irritating menus. No more! The next Starfield patch, which is currently available as an opt-in Steam beta, will let you guzzle things without opening your inventory, on top of various tweaks to the game's graphics and quests.
