CD Projekt RED has announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty sold over five million copies last year. The expansion topped three million units sold within its first week and received extensive acclaim from critics and fans.

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt makers CD Projekt Red have said in no uncertain terms that they “are not interested” in being acquired by another company, while still leaving the door open for the studio to potentially acquire others in the future.

's 2.1 update has included several new changes, and while it makes one aspect of the game much harder, it greatly improves its portrayal of one particular character: Adam Smasher. From the moment he first appeared during the Arasaka heist, the company's massively cybernetically enhanced head of security, Adam Smasher, was built up to be an intimidating foe.

The protagonist V is kind of a blank slate in , but there are new ways to find out a little more about how they fit into the wider world of Night City. As per usual in open-world RPGs, V doesn’t have many traits by default. They barely even have a name, just a single initial that might appear to stand for any number of things. This is so that players can project whatever kind of personality they like onto the main character, deciding how to portray them through their quest choices and in-combat playstyle.

One of the more significant quests called "" in requires you to solve a few puzzles and get Harris' IP address. This quest is also required to be completed if they want to romance River Ward. However, since this main quest takes place later on in the story, you should already have a few prerequisites to complete it.

's 2.1 update launched on December 5, 2023 — the same day as the release of the Ultimate Edition bundle — and included a wealth of new, highly requested features. These included the highly requested metro system seen in trailers and other promotional material prior to the game's 2020 release, enhanced gameplay mechanics, improved boss battles, and more. It also included «hangouts» where V could interact with their romantic partners further outside the game's main missions.

has some locations that developers created but for whatever reason did not make accessible to players by normal means, including one such area that has been found in new content from Update 2.1. Night City and its surrounding areas have many of these little spots that could have been designed as secrets for curious players to find or could have simply been blocked off due to not having enough time during development to finish them properly. The biggest surprise is just how detailed some of these places can be.

A secret area in 's DLC reveals much of the backstory behind a previous mission. adds a whole new region to 's map, being set entirely in a previously unexplored region of Night City called Dogtown. It's a former vacation playground for the ultrarich that was taken over by the private militia BARGHEST and its tyrannical leader Alex Hansen. It's the one part of Night City where government agencies have no sway, but that doesn't mean there's any less corruption. Compared to 's map, 's looks pretty small — but it's extremely condensed, and there are many things to do in Dogtown.

It is always fun to be able to come across some secret, hidden side jobs and events in a game like , and there are a lot of them tucked away in different nooks and crannies of Night City and Dogtown. Developers at CD Projekt Red seem to enjoy slipping even more in with each big update to the game, enticing people to explore anew with each change to fully experience all the details that have been tweaked. The game features a lot of lore and detailed backstories of various NPCs and events, and many of these extra narratives are uncovered only through seeking out these hidden surprises.

isn't exactly a cozy home decorating game, yet there are several different apartments that V can call home over the course of their time in the game. V begins with one default apartment but has many options open up to them, including one that is part of the DLC deep in the heart of Dogtown. Each of these possible living quarters varies drastically in location, comfort, style, and cost, including a few that are free, particularly those related to romantic relationships with NPCs.

Side quests in can sometimes have outcomes that will limit options down the road, particularly when it comes to relationships with NPCs. One side job in the game, "," has just such a conclusion, where players will need to choose carefully if they are looking to have romance blossom between V and Judy. Lives are on the line, as they always seem to be in the gritty world of Night City, and V has several options about how to proceed, particularly in one very important dialogue exchange with Maiko.

Adam Smasher is supposed to be a near-legendary threat to Night City itself, built up through in-game and out-of-game lore. As the final boss of and a memorable character in the anime, he should have been an epic battle that players made it through by the barest of margins. Instead, he was a relative weakling and a huge letdown for players once they went toe-to-toe with him as V. After patch 2.1, however, he is much closer to the reputation that precedes him.

The metro has been a long-requested feature for, with a heavy focus on it in promotional material, making it seem like an obvious candidate for actual inclusion in the game. Although there are plenty of ways to get around quickly, the inclusion of a usable metro helps up the believability and immersion of Night City while offering a more hands-off method of standard travel.

With the DLC for , there has been an update to skills and abilities that allow you to create your best builds for V yet. Nearly every character archetype has been reworked, allowing you to mix and match perks for a truly unique experience. Focusing on one path will enable you to approach different situations according to your character's strengths as you level up.

But with CD Projekt RED now having started shifting focus to Cyberpunk 2 (or whatever the sequel will end up being named), it’s only natural to wonder- will it be set in Night City once again, just as the first game was?

It's at a very early stage, with a core team that currently includes Cyberpunk 2077 game director Gabriel Amatangelo, narrative director Igor Sarinski and Sarah Gruemmer, expert quest designer, who worked on the storyline for Judy Alvarez in the previous game. They've all moved or are in the process of moving from Poland to Boston in the USA, where CD Projekt have opened a new office. A car that resembles the Batmobile can be acquired in for free of cost if you complete a particular questline early on. Arguably one of the most iconic vehicles in fiction, you can now drive around the Night City using the Caped Crusader's vehicle. The car is available once you complete Panam's "" quest. You will get access to a cave that will serve as Panam's main quest location, and inside this very cave, you can find the Batmobile.

When you first come across a Delamain car in , its location will be marked on the map so that you can start a major side quest right after. There are six Delamain cars in total, and V will be tasked to find all of them in Night City. However, unlike the first car, the rest will not be marked on the map, and you will have to locate them without any clues or guidance. Finding all of them will reward V with a lot of Street Cred, EXP, and Eurodollars (Eddies).

's DLC,, is an essential add-on for any fan of the base game. While the unpredictable spy-thriller story is among the best to be developed by CD Projekt RED, Phantom Liberty pays homage to a number of CD Projekt RED's previous games and most popular franchises — none more so than their critically and commercially revered series based on Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy series of book, series. One particularly well-hidden reference, made in, to a notable character from franchise will undeniably be very bittersweet for long-time fans.
