CD Projekt Red has a few more surprises in store for Night City citizens.
By Darryn Bonthuys on
Development on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is currently gathering momentum, but CD Projekt Red isn't done with the original game just yet. A monumental 2.0 update revitalized Cyberpunk 2077 with a substantial overhaul of its gameplay systems several months ago, and CD Projekt Red is preparing to drop a 2.1 patch that will introduce «new and hotly anticipated gameplay elements» to Night City. More details on Cyberpunk 2077's 2.1 update will be revealed on CDPR's Twitch channel at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET on December 1.
This is a surprise, as CDPR announced in September that the 2.0 update was the last major upgrade for the game as it shifted resources toward a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Redesigned Skill Trees and Phantom Liberty's Relic Skills were game-changers when they were added to Cyberpunk 2077, so it'll be interesting to see how CDPR builds on these elements ahead of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on December 5.

2023 has been an especially good year for the series, as CDPR reported that over 4.3 million copies of the Phantom Liberty expansion have been sold since its release on September 26. There has been bad news mixed in with these successes, as CDPR saw about 10% of its workforce laid off in July. For a fascinating look at the human side of game development, don't forget to check out GameSpot's new documentary that went behind the curtain at CD Projekt Red.
With mere hours to go before the launch of Phantom Liberty, this is a fascinating look at the people who make games and the passion that drove them to redeem Cyberpunk 2077 after its troubled launch in 2020. In GameSpot's second video, Phantom Liberty director Gabe Amatangelo breaks down the game's two endings and explains the development choices behind them.

God of War Ragnarok’s hotly anticipated free DLC expansion Valhalla, due out later today, will add more Trophies to the game – although they’ll be listed separately from the campaign, so you won’t need to worry about them if you haven’t earned the Platinum just yet. Writing on Twitter, game director Mihir Sheth confirmed the tidbit.
You could say that Cyberpunk 2077 hasn't had the easiest of rides. Perhaps after the years of hyperbole that was deserved, but what can't be denied is that CD Projekt Red re-trenched after the initial reception, stuck by the game, and has delivered consistent improvements that all led up to this year's major 2.0 update. That was supposed to be the end of it but a few days ago, surprise surprise, patch 2.1 popped up with even more improvements: and a little bit of meme history.
The latest Cyberpunk 2077 2.1 update quietly added the 'sad Keanu' meme to Night City.
has come a long way from its bungled launch in December 2020. The massive 2.0 update overhauled many of the game’s systems. The newest version, Update 2.1, went live today, December 5, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. While the changes may not be as drastic, the new version includes several exciting new features.
It's me, I'm back. Rock Paper Shotgun's dedicated Cyberpunk 2077 reporter. CD Projekt Red continue to pay my rent by releasing regular patches for the once-borked, now-brill open world so I can write news about them. The latest, Update 2.1, is out now and adds new races, car chases, romantic smooches, and a working metro system.
I was expecting 2.0 to be Cyberpunk 2077's last big update—which made me pretty dang surprised and excited to hear that a follow-up patch, 2.1, actually has some good meat to its bones.
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting the last major update before developer CD Projekt Red moves on to the next project. Dubbed ‘Update 2.1,' the patch finally brings the long-requested metro system, the ability to hang out with romantic partners, radios, and a ton of quality-of-life changes. It drops alongside the Ultimate Edition on December 5 at 4:30pm IST in India/ 12pm CET in Europe. Bear in mind that this is a free downloadable update, so it won't be included natively in the physical disc versions releasing on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. That said, the 2.0 Update released in September will be included across all versions, entirely overhauling the perk system and adding a range of tech augmentations, which weren't present in the original 2020 version.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive its final significant patch today, December 5, which plans to add «some of the most requested features» before rounding off significant updates for the game, as confirmed by IGN.
