It’s been almost two years since Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the anime miniseries set in the universe of Mike Pondsmith’s sci-fi tabletop RPG franchise, premiered on Netflix and hacked its way into the hearts of fans worldwide. If you’re still bummed there’s still no plans for a second season, cheer up: R. Talsorian Games, the publisher behind the Cyberpunk TTRPG, announced a new box set for the game inspired by both the anime on Tuesday.

As with many RPGs, 's story is enhanced by the characters players can interact with, and the relationships that can be built, with players' choices even leading to in-game romances. In the case of, there were four main romanceable options, with a male V able to seduce Panam Palmer, a Nomad from the Aldecado family, and Johnny Silverhand's former bandmate, Kerry Eurodyne, and a female V able to date the hacker Judy Alvarez, and former NCPD detective River Ward.

Arguably Cyberpunk 2077's most famous date scene - the underwater scuba dive with tech wizard Judy Alvarez - was made with smoke and mirrors, according to one lead developer. 

When creating Cyberpunk 2077's vast open world of Night City, it turns out that developer CD Projekt Red was faced with a "significant challenge" when it came to "adjusting to the scale and characteristics of American settings," simply because most of the team is European. 

Night City is a truly dangerous place, and recently released statistics have revealed some of the most dangerous encounters in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The base Cyberpunk 2077 took players to Night City, a gritty futuristic dystopia where crime and corruption rule on every corner. As Cyberpunk 2077 protagonist V, players struggle to survive in this rough environment while making a name for themselves among the legends of Night City — even with dangerous enemies like the infamous Adam Smasher gunning for them at every turn.

Humble is currently offering an $18 bundle that features a collection of lore books and graphic novels inspired by The Witcher, and Cyberpunk 2077. This bundle features PDFs of The World of Cyberpunk 2077 and The World of the Witcher, two massive tomes published by Dark Horse Comics that are full of amazing illustrations, and lore that power CD Projekt RED's open-world adventures. While one might think that Ripperdocs are some of the most trained and responsible professionals in , one fan shares their discovery that suggests even they can get it wrong sometimes. Through V's journey through the underworld of Night City, they'll be able to meet up with several surgeons who specialize in equipping cybernetic augmentations to the protagonist's body, making them significantly more powerful in the process. One such upgrade is the Sandevistan operating system which works wonders if it's installed correctly.

A hidden detail makes one of the game's more disturbing braindances even more eerie. Throughout CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG, players are able to relive moments from other Night City residents' perspectives through a virtual reality-type recording called braindances, which lets V feel their emotional states and anything they physically felt, as well as watching events unfold. In the universe, this is used as a major form of entertainment covering adult content, adrenaline chasers, and more, but V often uses them as ways to help with investigations, rewinding the footage and inspecting it on different levels to find clues.

Almost 200 new gigs have been added to , with the intent of helping players find some of the game's biggest secrets. While playing CD Projekt Red's sci-fi RPG, there are several easy-to-find side activities, such as gigs, which are marked on the map or activated via calls on the Holocom for players to get involved in. Despite this, the world of Night City is so rich and layered that there are bound to be elements that players don't discover upon their initial playthrough, regardless of how many hundreds of hours players may find themselves sinking into the game.

A mod lets players fully immerse themselves in the streets of Night City. CD Project Red's sci-fi RPG already had a first-person narrative for its majority, with players only able to swap to third person for driving, to make players feel like they were exploring its rich world, but a Virtual Reality mod has taken advantage of this to take things a step further.

Johnny Silverhand is one of the most popular characters in so players wishing they could hang out more with Keanu Reeves' rockstar are in luck because a new mod makes him far more social. In the vanilla version of CD Projekt Red's RPG, the projection of Johnny's consciousness, which is embedded in protagonist V's head, appears throughout the story to both offer advice to players and just offer his thoughts on the current state of Night City. Unfortunately, those wanting to relax with Silverhand can only do so in V's original apartment, even if they own other properties.

Igor Sarzyński, the creative director of Cyberpunk 2077, has taken to Twitter to tantalize fans with hints about what appears to be one of the final secrets yet to be uncovered in the Phantom Liberty quest. His post emerged a few days after another developer revealed that there are several closely guarded secrets within Cyberpunk 2077's universe that no player has yet stumbled upon.

Displate is the industry leader in metal posters, officially partnering with the likes of Marvel and Star Wars to create artwork fans can proudly display on their walls. Displate has now added a collection to its metal poster options that takes its posters up yet another level. It has been dubbed Textra, and much like the name suggests, it adds texture to some of its pre-existing designs, giving the posters a three-dimensional effect when the light bounces off them as well as adding touch to the senses its products can appeal to.

's Night City is full of references to other media, with its own version of the Batmobile found within a cave, to one of the fastest bikes in the game, the Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X, which is also known as the motorbike from. Some details, however, open up a multiversal can of worms, mainly surrounding the works of actor Keanu Reeves, who also portrays Rockerboy Johnny Silverhand in the game.

CD Projekt Red may insist that it's done working on but that may only be half the story. Having been released in an unfinished state back in 2020, the studio has worked tirelessly over the last three years to deliver the product that was initially promised to consumers, concluding with the launch of the excellent 2.0 Update and. As CDPR looks to the future, game director Gabe Amatangelo explains that there could still be some room to grow in some very small ways.

Many fans of Cyberpunk 2077 have always wondered why certain clothing items aren't available to wear, but the explanation behind the lack of long-sleeve jackets or gloves might actually be a pretty simple one. Looks may be everything in Night City, but even with a wide variety of alternative outfits and cosmetic items available, it seems the protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077 is more inclined to put function over form.

An observant may have just figured out why CD Projekt Red doesn't allow players' characters to wear long-sleeved shirts while walking around Night City. While it may have initially been assumed a bug, has never allowed V to properly wear a shirt with sleeves that cover their forearms, automatically rolling them up whenever the inventory screen is exited. The community has long believed this to be a glitch since looking at their characters in the game's menus shows them with their arms covered, suggesting it was simply something that would be patched.

A Easter egg is a perfect nod to one of Keanu Reeves' best characters. Reeves portrayed one of the major characters in the game, Johnny Silverhand, a Rockerboy who died in 2023 during an assault on Arasaka Tower, but lives on in a prototype Relic in V's head, appearing to comment on actions throughout the game, and even assuming control of V's body at certain points.

has been largely praised for its engaging storyline and main characters, but as with many of the best RPGs, it's the side quests that bring the world of the game to life. These smaller interactions and unrelated adventures make Night City feel truly lived in, learning the plights of citizens from all walks of life, including a seemingly sentient vending machine.

and its anime spinoff may be a few years old but that hasn't stopped the fandom from unearthing even more heartbreaking Easter eggs that connect the video game to the series. While the world of Night City may have already been a popular piece of pop culture before CD Projekt Red adapted the tabletop RPG into a video game, the launch of Netflix's anime further increased interest in the franchise by simply being an excellent, heartbreaking story. The latest update for may not fundamentally alter any aspects of the game but it is frustrating for certain players who prefer experiencing the narrative with the help of some third-party add-ons. Ever since CD Projekt Red released the highly-anticipated RPG in 2020 the studio has actively pushed out patches to fix what was widely considered to be an unfinished product due to the number of bugs and glitches that plagued the project. The most recent hotfix solves one very common issue but at the cost of installed mods.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty takes players to Dogtown for the first time, a brutal, lawless location even compared to Night City at its worst. Having been walled off from the rest of Night City, with zero semblance of rules or law enforcement, it's a pretty tough place to live and traverse, and CD Projekt Red recently went in-depth into the area's creation and inspirations.

While cloud gaming is very much not at a point where I want it to be the main way I play games, if I ever will, I do appreciate having the convenience as an option. Sure, I might be tempted to take a nice stroll through Night City while slouching about with my laptop that absolutely cannot run Cyberpunk 2077.

has introduced many new features in the years since its launch, with the most recent updates overhauling some elements of the game entirely, such as the Cyberware system, car chases, and some of the enemy AI and boss battles. Despite these improvements, which have been well-received by players, there is still one major component that seems to be surprisingly lacking in comparison to other RPGs: the customization tools.

Cyberpunk 2077's director has said that CD Projekt Red is "done" working on the RPG but says it may still add the odd small feature when needed.

Night City also has a lot of lore, outlining its politics, geography, and of course, its gangs, mercs, and police, in great detail.

CD Projekt Red may be teasing the location for 's sequel — currently codenamed Project Orion — and potentially the year it's set in. If so, the sequel could take place in a futuristic version of a real-world location, being a departure from 's completely fictional Night City.

There aren't many animals around in , but there's a perfectly good reason for that. Compared to the average open-world RPG, there's relatively little wildlife in and around Night City. 's urban environment is partially to blame, but even then, there's almost none of the animal life that's commonly seen in American cities. There are no pigeons perched on buildings, rats digging through trash, or squirrels climbing up trees. Outside the city, in the wide open space of the Badlands, there aren't really any animals to be seen, either.

Working on the basis that time heals all wounds (well, time and a hell of a lot of patches), I finally took the plunge back into Cyberpunk 2077 over the year-end holidays, and found myself enthralled by Night City – just as I’d fervently hoped I would be three years ago when the game originally launched.

Night City and 's slang, however, were not created by developer CD Projekt Red. Both predate the video game by some time, and have their roots in the wider franchise, so understanding the meaning and prevalence of the slang term choom requires a bit of background.

A Easter egg has revealed a creepy obsession with the ex-soldier and Rockerboy, Johnny Silverhand. Despite dying in 2023, 54 years prior to the events of V's story in the game, Silverhand and his band, Samurai still have some die-hard fans in Night City, even if some of the younger generation seem to show little interest.

Cyberpunk 2077 came out on December 10, 2022, nearly three years ago. It was a mess at launch, so bad in fact that it was pulled from the PlayStation store amidst an influx of refund demands. CD Projekt Red got to work on updating the game to fix the myriad problems plaguing performance, while also working to introduce some of the key promises absent in the final game such as a working metro, ultimately delaying DLC plans.

's Night City is the home to many gangs, each with its own rich history and lore. While gangs such as Maelstrom were formed out of the remains of a former gang, the Metal Warriors, and the Tyger Claws employed methods of Asian crime syndicates such as the Yakuza or the Triads, one of the coolest gangs in the city, the Mox, has an origin steeped in tragedy.

For many players, is best when there is a focus on roleplaying to fully let the immersion of becoming V take over and get lost in the world of Night City and its surrounding areas. The intricate details in the game, as well as the beautiful, yet dark, graphics help to make this possibility a reality. Just walking down the street and listening in on NPC conversations or having a seat at a bar and ordering a drink can all help not only make the game come more alive but also allow players a chance to escape from the real world for a bit and enjoy a different environment in the dystopian future.

has many minigames, but only one of them is deserving of a full release. From the delightfully buggy auto-scroller platforming of to the run-and-gun action of, Night City is full of arcade treasures for V to get sucked into. Of course, by 2077, most interactive entertainment has been replaced by Braindances, or BDs, neural recreations of all the thoughts, emotions, and feelings a real individual experienced while doing something thrilling. But arcade cabinets still line the back walls of shops, restaurants, and bars, and the denizens of Night City frequently compete for high scores in some of the day's biggest releases.

It’s honestly hilarious that we’re starting off 2024 by talking about the game that CD Projekt Red has spent years trying to fix. But when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, there are plenty of nice things to discuss. This is the only expansion for the game, and CD Projekt Red put everything they had into it so that it could stand on its own while also building upon everything the main game was supposed to offer. Some even went so far as to say that the expansion was “what was originally promised” while delivering a different kind of story. But, as in all things, the results are all that matter.

's 2.1 update has included several new changes, and while it makes one aspect of the game much harder, it greatly improves its portrayal of one particular character: Adam Smasher. From the moment he first appeared during the Arasaka heist, the company's massively cybernetically enhanced head of security, Adam Smasher, was built up to be an intimidating foe.

The protagonist V is kind of a blank slate in , but there are new ways to find out a little more about how they fit into the wider world of Night City. As per usual in open-world RPGs, V doesn’t have many traits by default. They barely even have a name, just a single initial that might appear to stand for any number of things. This is so that players can project whatever kind of personality they like onto the main character, deciding how to portray them through their quest choices and in-combat playstyle.

One of the more significant quests called "" in requires you to solve a few puzzles and get Harris' IP address. This quest is also required to be completed if they want to romance River Ward. However, since this main quest takes place later on in the story, you should already have a few prerequisites to complete it.

has some locations that developers created but for whatever reason did not make accessible to players by normal means, including one such area that has been found in new content from Update 2.1. Night City and its surrounding areas have many of these little spots that could have been designed as secrets for curious players to find or could have simply been blocked off due to not having enough time during development to finish them properly. The biggest surprise is just how detailed some of these places can be.

A secret area in 's DLC reveals much of the backstory behind a previous mission. adds a whole new region to 's map, being set entirely in a previously unexplored region of Night City called Dogtown. It's a former vacation playground for the ultrarich that was taken over by the private militia BARGHEST and its tyrannical leader Alex Hansen. It's the one part of Night City where government agencies have no sway, but that doesn't mean there's any less corruption. Compared to 's map, 's looks pretty small — but it's extremely condensed, and there are many things to do in Dogtown.

I’m currently working my way through Cyberpunk 2077 after years of waiting to get the all-clear that its issues had cleared up. And while it does a fantastic job of allowing you to lose yourself in its dystopian setting, I do have one major, roleplaying-related issue: V, the main character, is kind of an asshole, sometimes in ways you can’t even control.

Estonian independent developer Fracture Labs aims to rectify one major shortcoming in the gaming market with its Decimated project: the current lack of any decent cyberpunk-themed online game.

When CD Projekt Red unveiled Cyberpunk 2077, there was a ton of hype around it. Fans who enjoyed this studio’s line of The Witcher games were eager to see a game release from a different IP. We traded in our medieval setting for something far more futuristic. Likewise, the game was marketed to have some big branching storylines, with the creation of your character presenting you with your first major choice. Lifepaths were introduced as a means of not only giving your character a backstory but also playing in different scenarios throughout the game.

It is always fun to be able to come across some secret, hidden side jobs and events in a game like , and there are a lot of them tucked away in different nooks and crannies of Night City and Dogtown. Developers at CD Projekt Red seem to enjoy slipping even more in with each big update to the game, enticing people to explore anew with each change to fully experience all the details that have been tweaked. The game features a lot of lore and detailed backstories of various NPCs and events, and many of these extra narratives are uncovered only through seeking out these hidden surprises.

A Cyberpunk 2077 New Game Plus mode is something that was teased several years ago, but has yet to be followed up on in any major way - the 2.0 update didn't come with NG+, and as far as we can see, there's been no major comments from CD Projekt Red regarding the feature in recent months or even years.

isn't exactly a cozy home decorating game, yet there are several different apartments that V can call home over the course of their time in the game. V begins with one default apartment but has many options open up to them, including one that is part of the DLC deep in the heart of Dogtown. Each of these possible living quarters varies drastically in location, comfort, style, and cost, including a few that are free, particularly those related to romantic relationships with NPCs.

Side quests in can sometimes have outcomes that will limit options down the road, particularly when it comes to relationships with NPCs. One side job in the game, "," has just such a conclusion, where players will need to choose carefully if they are looking to have romance blossom between V and Judy. Lives are on the line, as they always seem to be in the gritty world of Night City, and V has several options about how to proceed, particularly in one very important dialogue exchange with Maiko.

In a time when just about everything (other than Nintendo games) is coming out on PC alongside the Xbox and PlayStation (eventually), it’s become the great intersectional platform. There are games that are only on PC, games that are on PC and Xbox but not PlayStation, games that are on PC and PlayStation and not Xbox, and games that are on PC and Switch but neither Xbox nor PlayStation. That means there was a terrifically wide range of nominees in the running for PC Game of the Year for 2023 – including quite a few that would’ve easily made this list if they’d come out in any of the past several years instead. What stands out is that, in a conversation that spanned all genres, RPG dominated the top of the list almost entirely – but each of them is wildly different from the others.

While the feature does wonders to make Night City feel more alive, I was surprised to learn just how little California’s public transportation infrastructure has improved in the game’s alternate-reality future.
