Unsurprisingly, the holidays have always been a terrific opportunity to save on the latest title or revisit the classics you may have missed, often for far less than their usual asking price. But while Steam’s winter sale has come and gone — taking its terrific Diablo IV discount along with it — there’s still time to take advantage of Epic Games’ annual holiday sale, which runs until January 10th at 11AM ET.
The full list of eligible titles is exhaustive, to be honest, but there are a couple of newer PC games worth highlighting. If you’re looking for a very heady third-person shooter with some Twin Peaks vibes that pulls out all the stops when it comes to ray tracing, for instance, Alan Wake 2 is on sale for $39.99 ($10 off) with a free copy of Alan Wake Remastered. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is also down to $53.59 ($26 off), which is a terrific price considering the Ultimate Edition includes both the base game and its new Phantom Liberty expansion. Then, there’s The Last of Us Part I, which is available for $40.19 (about $20 off) for a limited time.
It’s also worth noting that Epic brought Epic Coupons to its ongoing holiday sale, which allows you to take 33 percent off any transaction that costs $14.99 or more. That means, if you haven’t applied it yet, you can save some serious cash on all of the aforementioned games — including Alan Wake 2, which can be had for a cool $26.79.
Alan Wake 2 is the culmination of everything Remedy Entertainment has been building toward. The inventive third-person survival game is both horrifying and strange, with dual campaigns that are more than a little meta.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition includes the base game as well as CDPR’s excellent Phantom Liberty expansion, which improves the game significantly. The spy thriller DLC introduces players to a new area of Night City, along with a host of new quests and items.
Sony and Naughty Dog gave The Last of Us a fresh coat of paint to make it look, sound, and play more like The Last of Us Part II, complete with a welcome graphical makeover. Read our review of the PS5 version.
Samsung’s first unpacked event of 2024 is right around the corner, which means we’re likely to get all the details on the new S24 series before the month is out. (Hell, you can already place a reservation for the new devices sight unseen.) That said, there’s nothing wrong with opting for a competent midrange phone over the latest and greatest handset, which is what makes

Friends, it is finally time for me to discourse unto you about my great love of balls. The roots of my enthusiasm go back to pinball machines - both the fancier, arcade variety that transmogrify into e.g. screaming robot skulls when you achieve a high-enough multiplier, and the crappy, play-at-home variety that are basically a canted wooden sheet with some numbers drawn on it. But it wasn't till I embraced the holy medium of videogames that I realised the full potential of balldom.
Rewards from new boss encounters, hero skins, and game-changing mods are all available in when you complete different challenges in the roguelike No Return mode. The survival missions your chosen character can attempt in a run could unlock additional features. It may take time to meet every goal, but each challenge offers an exciting opportunity.
Naughty Dog has received plenty of criticism of late for the renewed emphasis it’s placed on re-releases, but clearly, those re-releases are paying off for it and Sony. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launched last week, and it seems to have got off to a solid start where its sales are concerned, having debuted at No. 3 in the weekly UK physical sales charts.
Embracer’s latest round of layoffs affect two studios, one of which had just been announced to be working on a major AAA.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans have every reason to be skeptical of Netflix’s new show. Even if they hadn’t been legendarily burned by a live-action production before, there’s the departure of the original series’ creators for their own sandbox of upcoming animated Avatar efforts.
Aang and the ga(a)ng are back in live action — and this time… it might be okay?
After a decade of perfecting the narrative-driven, action-adventure formula, PlayStation’s first-party games are tackling a new genre: the roguelike. Both God of War Ragnarök and the recently released The Last of Us Part II Remastered have their own roguelike modes that remix the core combat of their respective games into a repeatable action premise. At a quick glance, they’re very similar. Both modes have players cutting through arenas filled with enemies and grabbing new upgrades en route to a final boss battle.
Sony is issuing refunds to those who purchased The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered full price by accident, if they have it on PS4 already.
The multiplayer monster-collecting game Palworld is now available on Xbox Game Pass in early access. Developed and published by Pocketpair, the game is available to play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC via Game Pass and Steam. Palworld has been dubbed “Pokemon with guns” by the developer and offers players the chance to fight and team up with creatures called Pals, while also crafting and exploring the game's vast open world and dungeons.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a strange blend. On one hand, it’s a good excuse to revisit Digital Trends’ 2020 Game of the Year selection. On the other, it’s a bizarre package filled with tone-deaf bonus modes that water down the base game’s own message on cyclical violence. Considering that it’s not as much of a “remaster” as its title implies, I wouldn’t blame most players for skipping it.
