Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a host of new content with its first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, but alongside that, CD Projekt RED will also be releasing a significant free update for the base game itself on current-gen consols and PC that will overhaul and improve several of its underlying systems and mechanics, from progression and skill trees to dynamic police chases. Another system that’s seeing a radical revamp is vehicle combat, which CD Projekt RED has offered more details on in a newly published update.

It’s a busy month for CD Projekt RED and Cyberpunk 2077, with the latter receiving its massive 2.0 update and then the paid expansion, Phantom Liberty. The latter introduces a new district, Dogtown, and while we’ve seen some of the seedier locations, including the Black Market, there are also locations housing the elite.

The sci-fi RPG is proving to be a big hit for Bethesda Game Studios. However, not everyone is impressed by all aspects of the game. One Twitter user posted a video negatively comparing it to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, prompting a Cyberpunk developer to defend Starfield.

He confirmed that more and more developers would shift from Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to Project Polaris, the next Witcher title with a “big part” moving after the former launches.

While next month may belong to titles like Starfield and Mortal Kombat 1, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is also heavily anticipated. It received a new trailer and extensive gameplay at Gamescom 2023, and in the company’s first half 2023 earnings conference, CD Projekt revealed it was “very happy” about current pre-orders.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has shown incredible promise in all that’s been shown of it so far, and it looks like CD Projekt RED’s action RPG will finally be able to make good on its potential with its upcoming expansion. CD Projekt is RED going to have several major projects on its plate in the coming years, but it seems its current headcount of employees is more than what it will need. In a recently published organizational update, the company has announced that it will be laying off around 100 people between now and Q1 2024, which will account for roughly 9% of its total workforce.
