Cyberpunk 2077 expansion ‘Phantom Liberty’ – ‘New Ways to Play’ trailer, screenshots

If you’re after Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming expansion pass, Phantom Liberty, you better be sure you have enough storage space. Today, a new leak has surfaced online highlighting what players will look at for a download size. According to the latest reports, players will find the game expansion at about 32 GB of storage space. That’s not too bad, but you will also need to factor in the download size of the actual Cyberpunk 2077 base game.

The Cyberpunk 2077 fan base is waiting on two major releases this month. We know that Phantom Liberty is coming on September 26, 2023. That will give players the game’s first and only expansion. However, that’s not the only major release coming for the game. There is also the big 2.0 update that will revamp the gameplay experience in a big way. Fortunately, this 2.0 update is coming to the base game, so even if you don’t pick up the expansion, there is still a major update that will breathe some new life into the gameplay experience. 

Publisher Deep Silver and developer Starbreeze Studios have released a new trailer and screenshots for PAYDAY 3 introducing heisters Pearl and Joy, as well as announced the game’s post-launch content roadmap.

CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is still several weeks away but continues to look ever-so sumptuous. In a new trailer on Twitter (with footage captured by @Much118x), the developer showcases some of the expansion’s new weapons and Update 2.0’s abilities that players can utilize.

CD Projekt Red has detailed exactly which of Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming changes will be offered to all players as part of the game’s major 2.0 update, and which additions will be included in the game’s massive Phantom Liberty expansion.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion is coming on September 26, but before that happens, CD Projekt will release the major Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update. That's potentially an even bigger deal, because it makes major changes to the game's systems, including an overhaul to the skill trees and the addition of new perks, proper car combat, a new police system, revamped cyberware, combat AI improvements, and more.

CD Projekt has confirmed that no matter how good Phantom Liberty’s sales are, there won't be any more expansions for Cyberpunk 2077. This is partly down to a “technological decision”, according to CD Projekt’s SVP of business development, Michał Nowakowski.

Though CD Projekt RED’s initial plan for Cyberpunk 2077’s post-launch seemed to be similar to how the developer handled The Witcher 3, things haven’t quite turned out that way. Where The Witcher 3 received two full-fledged expansions after its launch, last year, CD Projekt RED confirmed that the upcoming Phantom Liberty will be Cyberpunk 2077’s first and only expansion.

Those of you who were hopeful that CD Projekt Red would support Cyberpunk 2077 with a few expansions are out of luck. When the development team revealed that they would bring out Phantom Liberty into the marketplace, it was shortly met with confirmation that the expansion was the only one to release for the game. It was likely quite a bit of disheartening news for fans of the game. This news would make it especially true for fans who waited for the game to finally arrive and stuck through the rough launch. However, it’s confirmed that we won’t be seeing any new releases outside of Phantom Liberty.

Following CD Projekt Group’s H1 2023 earnings conference, a Q&A session was held with CEO Adam Kiciński answering questions. He confirmed that more and more developers would shift from Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to Project Polaris, the next Witcher title with a “big part” moving after the former launches.

While next month may belong to titles like Starfield and Mortal Kombat 1, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is also heavily anticipated. It received a new trailer and extensive gameplay at Gamescom 2023, and in the company’s first half 2023 earnings conference, CD Projekt revealed it was “very happy” about current pre-orders.
