Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthposes a ton of questions, and then it doesn’t leave players with very many answers.

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is in the best place it can be, and Phantom Liberty has been pushed out into the wild, questions are being asked about what CD Projekt Red's next big release is going to be. It's been incredibly transparent with its development process, as a result of trying to make up for Cyberpunk 2077's launch shenanigans, and now the studio has shared its development pipeline on social media for us to see exactly what it's working on.

The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 creators CD Projekt Red have reported their earnings for 2023 (their fiscal year corresponds with the regular calendar year) and it seems it was a good 12 months for the Polish publisher. 2023 was CDPR’s second-best year ever, thanks to the sales of the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion, which managed to move 5 million copies, which is added to the 20 million in sales for the original Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR has also announced that The Witcher series surpassed 75 million units sold last year. So, yes, if you’re doing the math (75 million for the Witcher, 25 million for Cyberpunk) CDPR has now sold over 100 million games. Not bad!

Toys For Bob has reportedly signed a deal with its former corporate owners at Microsoft, only a few weeks after finding independence.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is full of great moments, it can be difficult to choose just one that stands out. Konami seems to be very slowly pulling back the curtain on its PS5 remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as after Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter teased the title for his YouTube legacy series, the game's main menu has been put online. Not so noteworthy in itself, but now Hayter has come out to say he's played the full game, and also added «it was spectacular».

Alone in the Dark is the definition of slow burn horror – something that’s pretty much a given when playing, reading, or watching anything that takes heavy inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. A modern take of the 1992 classic created by Infogrames, it’s easy to see why THQ wanted to take a punt at reanimating the series, especially when you consider the back-to-back successes Capcom has enjoyed with its recent string of Resident Evil remakes. After all, it was Alone in the Dark that inspired Shinji Mikami in creating the very first Resident Evil all those years ago. Both games took place in a sprawling manor complex teeming with jump scares and puzzles, though Alone in the Dark veered more towards the occult and committing to a period setting.

A full remake of the 1997 puzzle game Riven is going to be released on PC, consoles, and VR latest this year. Metal Gear Solid's very own Solid Snake has played the opening section of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, calling it "spectacular."

Today, Remedy released its latest quarterly report for the period between October and December 2023. Despite the successful launch of Alan Wake 2, which was the fastest-selling game ever made by the studio even launching in a highly competitive release window, Q4 2023 marked a decrease in both revenue and profitability compared to 2022 due to significantly increased investments in the other game projects and to the impairment charge cost (€ -7.2 million) related to the reboot of the free-to-play Project Vanguard, from now on known as Kestrel.

Cyan’s classic PC adventure game Riven: The Sequel to Myst is getting an Unreal Engine 5 remake later this year. Although Cyan’s last game experienced controversy surrounding the use of AI content, Cyan confirmed to Digital Trends that the Riven remake does not use any “AI-assisted content.”

Resident Evil 4’s remake has been a humongous success for Capcom, with sales now topping seven million units since the title’s launch a year ago. At last count, the outing had sold 6.48 million units as of 31st December, so it’s moved another 500,000 copies since then. It did launch on Mac, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPad late last year, too.

It feels like the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been frozen in carbonite forever. The remake of Myst sequel Riven is set to be released later this year, according to developer Cyan.

The Unreal Engine 5 remake of Riven: The Sequel to Myst, previously known as Riven: New Discoveries From the Lost D'ni Empire but now officially just called plain-old Riven, is coming this year, original developer Cyan Worlds has announced. 

There’s something in the gaming waters right now in terms of remaking classic games. While 2024’s Alone in the Dark isn’t the first remake of the seminal 1992 game that inspired the survival horror genre, it’s by far the most high profile. The protagonists Detective Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood bear the likenesses and voices of actors David Harbour and Jodie Comer respectively, adding a distinct Hollywood flavor to this game that feels like it should be an HBO series.

About a year and a half after the Riven remake's announcement, Cyan Worlds revealed today that the game will launch later this year on PC with support for VR platforms.

Every now and again, a day comes along when two big games release on the same day, often leaving people with a tough decision to make and a trail of memes in their wake. Saber Interactive has parted ways with Embracer Group, buying back the rights to its own work as well as much of its network of studios and contractors. 

Embracer Group has reportedly sold Saber Interactive for just shy of $500 million, after it was reported to be in the process of selling the studio last month.
