The Witcher 4 Development Has Ramped Up, Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel In Concept Phase

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 is in the best place it can be, and Phantom Liberty has been pushed out into the wild, questions are being asked about what CD Projekt Red's next big release is going to be. It's been incredibly transparent with its development process, as a result of trying to make up for Cyberpunk 2077's launch shenanigans, and now the studio has shared its development pipeline on social media for us to see exactly what it's working on.

We know that CD Projekt Red has a bunch of projects in various stages of development at the moment, but it appears as though the studio is preparing to make The Witcher 4 one of its next major releases. Earlier this year, CEO Adam Badowski stated that the studio aimed to have around 400 employees working on The Witcher 4 - currently codenamed Polaris - by the middle of 2024, and these new figures released by the studio show that they've been able to meet their goal.

From the pipeline that's been shared, we can see that Polaris is still in the pre-production phase, meaning a potential release is still ways off, while Project Sirius from developer The Molasses Flood is as well. The highly-anticipated Witcher Remake is currently only in the concept phase, though you'd imagine it'll have a shorter development cycle as it's a remake rather than a brand-new game. Trying to guess which will release first is a fool's errand right now, but it's nice to see how far along these titles are.

CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński claimed in 2022 that The Witcher Remake won't actually launch until after The Witcher 4 , but these kinds of plans can always change during development.

Of course, CD Projekt Red isn't just The Witcher studio anymore, and Cyberpunk 2077 fans will be eager to know just how long they'll have to wait to get their hands on the already announced sequel, codenamed Project Orion. Unfortunately, we're going to be waiting a while, as Orion is also only in the concept stage at the moment, which is understandable since Phantom Liberty isn't even a year old right now.

We've also got CD Projekt Red's mysterious new IP to look forward to - codenamed Project Hadar - which is in the IP concept phase, meaning that one's even further out. That's not too surprising, with CD Projekt Red clearly on the brink of putting its full attention on The Witcher right now, but it's good to see potentially how long we'll be waiting for certain titles, even if we don't have concrete release windows just yet.
