The actor behind Aerith in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Brianna White, has commented on the game's infamous love triangle between Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa.
Considering Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth finally deals with that scene (you all know the one I'm talking about), you'd think that most conversations surrounding the game after it launched would be about Aerith's fate and if she manages to escape Sephiroth's sword. That hasn't been the case, however, as most fans have been caught up arguing about whether Cloud should be with Tifa or Aerith.
This is a debate that's been roaring ever since Final Fantasy 7 originally released, and it's one that hasn't slowed down one bit since Final Fantasy 7 Remake gave us a reimagined version of gaming's greatest love triangle. Although Rebirth gives what most would argue is a definitive answer to the question of Cloud's canon love interest, that hasn't stopped the discussions.
You've likely heard every angle to the argument from fans over the past few months, but you might be wondering what the cast of Rebirth thinks about the whole situation. Although we'll have to wait to see who Cloud and Tifa's actors think is the right ship, we now at least know what Aerith's actor, Brianna White, has to say about Rebirth's big romance.
As pointed out by Redditor Hadrian_x_Antinous on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake subreddit, White recently appeared on an episode of Dan Allen Gaming's podcast to talk about the character's role in the story, what it was like working on the game, and discuss some of the biggest emotional scenes. At one point, White is asked what she thinks about the love triangle between Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith and who she thinks is the canon ship.
Rather than giving a definitive answer to who she thinks Cloud should be with, White says that she thinks that whoever the player thinks is the right choice for Cloud is the canon answer. White points out that Rebirth gives you the option to date several of the characters, and that it's up to the player to decide which of those is "correct".
"I get asked this all the time... I know some people think it's a cop-out answer, but it's whoever you think is right, is right! That's the way the game is designed. There's a reason that it's an option for you to go on a date with Aerith, or with Tifa, or with neither of them. There is a reason for that... And both are correct. All are correct!"
Considering how fierce the conversations surrounding this iconic love triangle have been for decades, it's a smart answer from White and one that should give some comfort to fans shipping Cloud and Aerith, even if Advent Children suggests that Tifa is who he eventually ends up with.
