Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Test 0 Fight References A Mistake From The PS1 Release

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth contains a cheeky reference to a debug enemy that was accidentally left in the Japanese release of Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1.
As a remake (well, kinda) of the original Final Fantasy 7, you won't be surprised to learn that Rebirth has quite a few easter eggs and references to the game that inspired it. Some of them are obvious callbacks or reimaginings of iconic moments, like Barret's sailor outfit or Red XIII somehow managing to disguise himself as a SOLIDER, but others are a little bit more obscure.
In Chapter 8 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you'll unlock a battle arena known as Beast Battleground that lets Cloud go up against a variety of animal enemies. If you progress far enough in the arena, you'll eventually come up against a panther-like enemy known as Type 0, who can be pretty tough to beat.
Beyond being an interesting challenge for Cloud, Type 0 is actually a reference to an enemy that was mistakenly left in the original print of the Japanese version of Final Fantasy 7. In Corel Prison, players could run into the Type 0 enemy, who was also a panther-like creature, and defeat it for a ton of XP and Gil, which was easy since it didn't bother to fight back if encountered and only said "It hurts!" when being attacked.
Considering its name, the high amount of health it has, and the fact it transports Cloud to the wrong background when the fight begins, it was clear that Test 0 was a debug enemy that was accidentally left in the game. Over the years, Test 0 has become a bit of a Final Fantasy 7 urban legend, something that Rebirth actually calls back to.
"A test subject that managed to escape from Shinra's R&D Division due to a developer's oversight. It has since acquired the faculty of speech, however stilted, by mindlessly parroting all that it hears".
If you use Assess on Type 0, you'll get a description that cheekily references how he came to be in the original game, including calling back to it saying "It hurts!" whenever attacked and noting that it managed to escape due to a "developer's oversight". It's a nice little reference to an obscure bit of Final Fantasy 7 history, even if fighting it isn't quite as nice.
