Xbox Game Pass has confirmed another day-one game for 2024 in the form of The Alters. The next title from award-winning developer 11 Bit Studios is still without an official release date, although the Polish company committed to bringing it to PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass sometime this year.
While a sequel to has yet to be officially confirmed as in development, the game's success makes a follow-up seem likely, but an apparent shift in strategy from publisher Warner Bros. Games makes the realization of a true much less certain. Initially releasing in February 2023 for current-gen consoles and PC, became something of a phenomenon, beating industry titan as the best-selling game of the year. That success, paired with the rich, relatively untapped universe makes a sequel an obvious next step, but there's a chance 's single-player experience won't be iterated on.
The Thaumaturge exists in an alternate 1905 Warsaw, where I can’t go anywhere without a couple of soldiers trying to mug me for my nice warm boots, and making matters worse, I’m playing an exhausted-looking guy who keeps talking to himself. This RPG world doesn’t have the same immediate appeal as a fantasy realm like Baldur’s Gate 3’s Faerun, but once I start digging, I find a treasure trove of great writing and compelling choices.

There are precious few games set in turn-of-the-century Warsaw, and it’s one of several aspects with which distinguishes itself from the pack. This historical dark fantasy RPG is the sophomore release from Polish studio Fool’s Theory, whose 2017 cyberpunk action-RPG echoes the almost irresponsibly bold design decisions and ambitious intentions of their newest project. is a meaty, detailed exploration of Polish history and Western political progress, crafted around a worthy concept that is ultimately more interesting than just “Slavic .”
In a video game industry that often feels like it’s bloating into a monolithic, unsustainable beast propped up by annual staples and once every generation blockbusters, a small silver lining is that it’s still big enough for games like The Thaumaturge to exist. This mid-size RPG may not match the jaw-dropping scale of a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, but it’s still packed with atmosphere and good ideas that are mostly well executed. Aside from some buggy movement and odd voices, the turn-based combat is full of interesting strategic choices, and its great writing and story manage to punch up tried and true point-and-click clue finding and lore gathering.

I've done some elementary study of the planet Jupiter for various creative research projects/dead-ends. It's probably a symptom of my failings as an astronomer, but I have to say that at no point have I noticed any gigantic, depressed clowns. In new platformer Clown Meat, one such gigantic, depressed clown has swum through Jupiter's atmosphere, drifted to Earth and kicked off some kind of meatpunk apocalypse, saturating the surrounding countryside with circus-themed abominations.

Turbo Kid is a 2015 movie set in a post-apocalypse in which a comic book fan battles a local tyrant, with gory, comedic, '80s-pastiching results. It was not a film I expected to get a metroidvania sequel, but here it is with a new demo and an April release date.
The sequel to seems to have already learned an important lesson from its predecessor and, with it, is hoping to avoid the first game’s biggest and worst mistake. The release of CD Projekt Red’s open-world RPG was a reputation scandal, despite the large sales figures. At launch, the product was plagued by bugs and other technical problems, mostly on the past-gen consoles. Aside from the technical issues that affected customers, the game was wrapped in problems with development, such as the crunch imposed on employees to deliver the title on time – when it was clearly not ready.

The second installment in the trilogy that began with has the same quality and polish that permeated its predecessor, and the decision to pay greater attention to its cast pays off at nearly every turn. For Square Enix, it's another mark of excellence for a franchise that has seen no shortage of Game of the Year contenders in recent years; for the trilogy of games following Cloud, it's reassurance that the segmented release schedule is the right call.
