More than 4 million people have downloaded Suika Game on Nintendo Switch — the only place it’s available — since it was released in 2021. The release date for VOID Interactive’s tactical first-person shooter, Ready or Not, has been revealed during The Game Awards, and fans don’t have long to wait. 

The Finals, one of the buzziest new shooters of 2023 despite only existing in beta, finally has a release date. It’s out… right now! Developer Embark Studios announced the news at the 2023 Game Awards.

The First Descendant is a free-to-play looter shooter from Nexon. There have been beta sessions before now, but the game is getting a full, proper launch next Summer. After almost two years in early access, Void Interactive's tactical FPS Ready or Not will be hitting 1.0 in an update scheduled for December 13, as the studio revealed with a trailer at The Game Awards. The full version promises to have the complete «Commander Mode» singleplayer campaign, with new missions and overhauled versions of the currently available ones—18 in total, which can be played alone or in co-op with up to five players—as well as a suite of extra customizations and quality-of-life improvements.

To say The Anacrusis is similar to Left 4 Dead would be a severe understatement. From hordes of mindless monsters, to deadly enemies that spawn regularly and use their special powers to put the party in a jam, to safe rooms that separate each act of an episode, this four-player co-op FPS sticks so close to its inspiration it could almost qualify as a spinoff. Unfortunately, that nostalgic mimicry allows for little in the way of interesting new ideas or even expected modernizations that might have made it more fun, resulting in a flavorless distraction that feels like it could have come out in 2008. Combat is bland and one-note, the graphics are well below the standards of today, and enemy variety is almost nonexistent. The only thing The Anacrusis really has going for itself is a unique disco-era sci-fi setting starring cheeky characters and groovy locales, which would be easier to appreciate if the rest of it wasn’t so woefully bland. It’s been 15 years since the original Left 4 Dead, but The Anacrusis feels sorely stuck in the past.

Capcom has announced the long-awaited PSVR2 mode for Resident Evil 4 will be available for free next week on 8th December 2023. You'll be able to play the entire main story from the first-person perspective using Sony's VR headset, and a free PSVR2 demo will go live on the PS Store on the same day for anyone to try out. There’s something inherently entertaining about bashing a zombie's brains in. We’ve enjoyed it in shows like The Walking Dead, and we’ve certainly enjoyed it in video games like World War Z, Days Gone, and even Sony classic The Last of Us. However, Arizona Sunshine 2 takes the prize for the most entertaining zombie brain-basher on the market — and it’s all thanks to the PSVR2.

Love it or loathe it, Fortnite has not stood still. The game, now on Chapter 5 after a hugely successful nostalgic interlude, has continued to grow and improve with each new update cycle. Link's newfound ability to attach items to his armaments has resulted in some creative and awe-inspiring combinations, ranging from death-dealing weapons of destruction to ones that are plain silly. With hundreds of different materials to choose from, though, players may be unsure of which items to attach to the Master Sword for the best results.

Excellent bullet hell and melee battle mashup Furi dropped back in 2016 and left a big impact crater on action genre fans, demanding attention and careful play from players with a unique control scheme emphasizing dual stick play around shooting and slashing. Fans of the Resident Evil franchise who happen to own a PS5 and a PlayStation VR 2 are about to get a new way to scare themselves in virtual reality. Starting 8 December gamers who already own the Resident Evil 4 remake will receive a free update that adds VR support, Capcom has confirmed.

Wild Bastards is a new roguelite space western and follow-up to 2019’s Void Bastards. The game was announced during today’s PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted showcase, and it’s coming next year. 

In a livestream today developer Grinding Gear Games made a slew of announcements, including a first look at a new playable class in its upcoming ARPG Path of Exile 2: the mercenary.

Today, Capcom has officially announced the release date for the upcoming VR mode coming to the remake of Resident Evil 4. Releasing earlier this year, the remake starring Leon S. Kennedy was held in high regards across the gaming world. Now, those with a PlayStation VR2 will have the opportunity to step in the literal shoes of Leon Kennedy to experience the horror first hand, and its sooner rather than later. So much sooner that it will be available as free DLC on December 8. This is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version of the game as the PC version will not have the option for VR, much in the line of Resident Evil 7 and Village (although an upgrade for RE7 would be nice).

Developer Modus Games revealed an all-new strategy-FPS titled Wild Bastards. The cosmic spaghetti western serves as a standalone successor to the hit roguelike FPS Void Bastards. Players will jump into the role of the leader of a gang of intergalactic outlaws as they shoot their way through the galactic Wild West. Wild Bastards is releasing on PC in 2024.

Season 1 Arrives in Modern Warfare III

The PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted is here to spotlight our most anticipated games of 2024 and beyond, but not everything in the show today is far off. A new multiplayer shooter promising to be «the most accessible extraction shooter» to date, Hawked, launches today in early access. It's free-to-play, sports a massive map out of the gate, and seems more focused on quick, simple fun than laborious looting.

Yet another Resident Evil VR title will be hitting the PS VR2 soon, as RE4 Remake‘s VR mode arrives on December 8. It’s a free update if you’ve already purchased the base game, but there is a free standalone demo that’ll be available on launch day if you want to try it before you buy it.

Bethesda, the developer behind Starfield, has started to respond to negative reviews of the game on Steam with reasons why players are misguided in their assessment. At the time of writing, I’ve counted over 100 negative reviews on Steam that have received a response from the developer.

Some people take them personally and lash out at those who made them. Others ignore them because they “don’t mean anything” so long as you enjoyed the thing you made. Some people simply don’t read reviews so that they don’t have thoughts from either side clouding their minds. But in the case of Bethesda, they’re taking the negative reviews of Starfield rather hard, as some of their customer support team are trying to explain away the things that gamers don’t like.

Just over a week ago, I talked about how Starfield was getting a beating on Steam. From where I'm sitting, it's just a result of hype not meeting expectations. It's a decent game, it's just that 'decent' is a huge problem when we were all strapped in for the next big Bethesda RPG.

Over the holiday weekend, EA pushed out patch 1.2.1 for NHL 24 which includes some fan requested updates. The Grand Theft Auto series is full of weird and wonderful Easter eggs, ranging from movie references to spooky apparitions, but you'll struggle to find one stranger or mysterious than the interchangable moon from GTA: Vice City.

When the next Cult of the Lamb update was revealed to be called Sins of the Flesh, you can imagine where the playerbases' minds went. Naughty, naughty places indeed. It's easy to see why too - the image that was shared alongside the announcement featured cult members looking all nakey, aside from a strategically placed leaf for modesty. I mean, just look at it yourself.

We are nearing the end of Fortnite Season OG. So far, we have been taken all the way back to 2018, experiencing Chapter 1 Season 5, through to Season 8. A new update is now live on all platforms, launching the final segment of the throwback season, with the return of Seasons 9 and X. During this period of Fortnite history, Jetpacks joined the map, allowing players to take their feet off the ground in the battle royale for the very first time.

Actor Ned Luke, who plays Michael De Santa in Grand Theft Auto 5, shoots down rumours that Rockstar is to blame for his being doxxed. When I'm not scouring the web for Black Friday deals, one of my favorite pastimes is speedrunning what I deem to be one of the best video games ever made, Dishonored. I must have played Arkane's 2012 classic upward of 100 times at this point, and while full playthroughs refuse to get old because I never fail to find something new, I have so much fun trying to beat my ghost / clean hands speedrun time whenever I go back to it these days. 

Left 4 Dead has stood the test of time, more or less—and while there hasn't been a peep from the series in years, that's more down to Valve weirdness rather than a sign of a lack of interest from players. Half-Life was galactically successful, and we're all still waiting on a third game. Someday, Gabe, someday.

Half-Life celebrated its 25th anniversary last Sunday, and Valve laid out a buffet of Lambda-shaped treats to mark the occasion. The company added new multiplayer maps to the game, released an hour-long documentary delving into its design, and fixed a few of its most resilient bugs. But there's one bug that escaped Valve's digital butterfly net, one that, weirdly enough, is actually seen in the 25th anniversary documentary. Now, it's been fixed.
