Today, Capcom has officially announced the release date for the upcoming VR mode coming to the remake of Resident Evil 4. Releasing earlier this year, the remake starring Leon S. Kennedy was held in high regards across the gaming world. Now, those with a PlayStation VR2 will have the opportunity to step in the literal shoes of Leon Kennedy to experience the horror first hand, and its sooner rather than later. So much sooner that it will be available as free DLC on December 8. This is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version of the game as the PC version will not have the option for VR, much in the line of Resident Evil 7 and Village (although an upgrade for RE7 would be nice).
Resident Evil 4 VR mode will support the full main story campaign with visuals that are highlighted by the 4K HDR display of the PlayStation VR2. Players can also expect 3D audio to further immersive themselves the atmosphere. The PlayStation VR2 Sense technology will also be in use and will provide new ways to interact with the world. This includes holding weapons with natural motion, unique gestures for reloading specific firearms, and enhanced knife action for close encounters. Capcom has included a Shooting Range mode to help with combat skills.
For those that do not have the game, but do have a PlayStation VR2, you can look for a demo on the PlayStation Store the same day as release. This will provide a 360° look at the game’s opening and new features. The demo will also include the Shooting Range, where players can experiment with weapons and get an idea of the controls. Much like the VR added to Resident Evil Village, The Mercenaries Mode will not be playable in VR. The VR DLC joins The Mercenaries and Separate Ways as additional DLC for Resident Evil 4, as the game as sold over five million units worldwide.
This won’t be the first time a release of Resident Evil 4 gets the VR treatment. Capcom has previously released the original game exclusive to the Meta Quest, but the remake VR will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. Resident Evil 4 has already nabbed Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards in a year that is full of major releases. With this releasing a day after The Game Awards next week, this will certainly help to push the PlayStation VR2 this Holiday season. Capcom has also released a trailer for the launch, which can be viewed below. You can check out our review of the game here.
