Meta has announced that it’s opening up Meta Horizon OS, the operating system that powers its Quest headsets, to third-party hardware makers.

But Sony has been an enduring presence in VR for years now, throughout the industry’s various ups and downs (mostly downs, if we’re being honest here).

VR fans hoping for Ubisoft to invest more in the space will be disappointed to hear that the company is not planning to increase investment in VR games following disappointing sales of its most recent VR endeavor Assasin's Creed Nexus VR.

This is because the studio behind it (also known as Rec Room) simply «can't justify the cost», despite its popularity.

These games can allow people to experience what it feels like to race in death-defying conditions that can include everything from wacky power-ups with karts to combat driving with missiles. Situations like these may not be probable or recommended in real life, but in a VR world, they can be exciting and fun.

Considerable advancements have been made in the technology of virtual reality gaming in recent years, and many who have tried some of the incredible games on systems such as the Meta Quest 2 have found that even games not marketed as fitness programs can be incredibly physically demanding at times. Virtual reality games that are designed for physical fitness can provide a wonderful way to stay active. Without ever having to leave the comfort of home to brave the crowds at a gym or face inclement weather outside, players can enter any number of virtual worlds to get a new way to work their muscles.

VR continues to expand. What was once thought of as a fad has now grown into a lucrative market, with Sony's PlayStation VR 2, the Meta Quest 3, HTC Vive, Valve Index and many more headsets all now competing to come out on top.

Remember Drool’s surreal rhythmic racer Thumper with its dark industrial synth? Puddle, the artist and composer behind it, is working on what seems to be a spiritual successor – Thrasher. Today, Capcom has officially announced the release date for the upcoming VR mode coming to the remake of Resident Evil 4. Releasing earlier this year, the remake starring Leon S. Kennedy was held in high regards across the gaming world. Now, those with a PlayStation VR2 will have the opportunity to step in the literal shoes of Leon Kennedy to experience the horror first hand, and its sooner rather than later. So much sooner that it will be available as free DLC on December 8. This is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version of the game as the PC version will not have the option for VR, much in the line of Resident Evil 7 and Village (although an upgrade for RE7 would be nice).

Following its announcement earlier in the year, People Can Fly confirmed in August that Bulletstorm VR would be launching on December 14, though with the game now less than a month away from its intended launch, the company has announced a delay, pushing its release back by a little over a month.

Roblox is off to a great start on PlayStation. This analysis comes from Mat Piscatella, executive director and leading analyst at Circana (NPD). In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Piscatella said Roblox "ranked 3rd in percentage of PlayStation players that played the title at least once" during its launch on the PlayStation, trailing only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Fortnite.

For the unaware, Zuckerberg in July announced that an open beta version of Roblox would be available for a limited time, following which it would be officially launched. Now, it is finally available on the Quest 3.

StatusPRO’s officially licensed quarterback simulation NFL Pro Era will receive a PSVR2 sequel on an as yet unannounced date. The football follow-up – first due out on 28th September for Meta Quest and PC – will incorporate numerous key new features, including online head-to-head multiplayer. “Gamers will have the opportunity to challenge their friends and opponents from around the world to see who can lead their team to victory in exhibitions,” the press release teases.

During today’s State of Play hosted by Sony to showcase upcoming titles for PlayStation, Capcom revealed two things. First off, a bit more was showcased for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 VR that will be slated to release this Winter. No official date was given to this, but the trailer showcased some key moments from the remake as it transitions over to virtual reality. This will be a free update on PlayStation 5 and supports the PlayStation VR2. After the trailer revealing the VR update for the game, Capcom officially announced an expansion for the remake that follows in the line of the original.

Roblox has a firm grip on the gaming world thanks to a few key elements that have helped it attract millions of players. For instance, it’s a small game that isn’t going to tax even the most dated PCs. Furthermore, it also has strong social elements, allowing players from around the world to use it as a virtual hangout spot.

For a while now, popular online game platform Roblox has been pretty much exclusive to Xbox consoles, even though the company behind the title doesn't have any publicly known deals with Microsoft. It was assumed that Roblox was only on Xbox because the majority of people play the game on PC and it was just a natural place to have a console presence.
