Even though there are dozens of accomplishments the game could track, it's built-in stat tracker is incredibly limited. Thankfully, much of that slack is picked up by third-party software – which lets you get a detailed look at your in-game performance.

Nightingale is a game of fascinating contradictions. While I’m still early on in the Early Access version of this co-op survival crafting game, it’s already jumping wildly between intriguing and confusing, aesthetically pleasing and outright ugly, intuitive and obtuse. It does a lot right, and I can see the potential of building a life from the ground up in this mysterious land – but it also does a lot wrong, particularly with how much time and effort it takes to make meaningful progress. I have a lot more to play before I put a score on this review, but so far I can’t quite tell if Nightingale's rough spots will eventually become part of its charm or hold its otherwise interesting ideas back.

The developer is working on solutions, while temporarily disabling some modes while it’s being fixed.

I found fulfillment in that strategy too, as someone who enjoys the world of Runeterra, but didn’t want to play League of Legends itself. It’s a treatment that few well-known franchises get outside comic book universes, Warhammer, and Star Wars.

Blizzard published a blue post to let players know that they are looking into issues with Support Your Local Artisans and Love Language Expert having their criteria reset. It’s one that’s built upon human connections, but where there’s love, there’s also manipulation, where there’s care there’s also control, and where there’s life there’s also death. While there’s love, affection and tenderness here, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden certainly has more than enough death to balance against it.

Not only is February a big month for the AAA titles of the world, but it's also lined up some fascinating indie games for PS5, PS4 owners to digest. Alongside Pacific Drive is Ultros, an incredibly colourful platformer promising just as much brutal action as there is calming gardening. It is out for Sony's two systems on 13th February 2024, and to learn more ahead of release, we caught up with game design director Mårten Brüggemann to ask maybe one too many questions.

Sony has prematurely revealed a demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, as part of a trailer uploaded early to the PS Store. The video – presumably intended to debut as part of an upcoming State of Play livestream – promises to let you “step into the shoes of either Cloud or Sephiroth during the Nibelheim episode”. Like spotting the first sign of shore after years adrift, Skull and Bones has finally, actually found its way to launch. Six separate delays and several different concepts that were forced to walk the plank might’ve made you understandably apprehensive about Ubisoft’s long-brewing pirate game, but I’ve already found a yo-ho-whole lot to be excited about after spending nearly 30 hours with its surprisingly unconstrained open beta this past weekend. The 17th-century Indian Ocean works well as avast open world to be explored and plundered, the RPG mechanics are (briny) deep with opportunities for buildcrafting alongside your fellow scurvy dogs, and the naval combat you’ll spend bucca-nearly all your time on the high seas engaging with is tactical and consistently entertaining. Aside from the expected instability one usually encounters with a beta for an online game, the only red flags so far are the lackluster story and a list of endgame activities that feel like they could become repetitive in short oar-der. I won’t be able to complete my voyage until the full version sets sail later this week, but I’m already excited to sea more.

Based on the first couple of days with it, Helldivers 2 strikes me as hilarious, smartly designed, and intense whether I’m playing solo, with a squad of other random Helldivers, or serving up a nice hot cup of Liber-tea across the galaxy with buddies. I still need to see more of its varied missions, unlock a wider selection of its huge catalog of weapons, emotes, armor, and abilities, and see how Managed Democracy’s campaign against alien bugs and robots plays out during the long haul, so I’m not ready to give a final review just yet. But for right now, I’m enjoying traveling to exciting new places, meeting exotic life forms, and killing them for the glory of Super Earth. God, what a sentence.

The newest season of Overwatch 2 is just around the corner, and with it comes some exciting changes. The original Earthlock was an unashamedly old-school JRPG that played well but offered little in the way of innovation. However, the game benefited from a pretty major overhaul in 2018 when the development team at Snowcastle Games added a load of extra features for the Switch port. Adding these all onto the original version as a free upgrade was a move that generated a lot of goodwill and therefore the announcement of a sequel was met with plenty of excitement. Earthlock 2 is due in 2024 but to tide us over we have a surprising spin-off in the form of Ikonei Island.

If you want to get a taste of the pirate life awaiting in Skull and Bones before investing any of your own loot on purchasing the game, you will no doubt be interested in its open beta. This short taste of the game lets you play the opening portion of the full package alone or with friends to take part in a few of the activities included in the full release.
