Unicorn Overlord gets a Switch demo today, with save data carryover

Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord, a tactical strategy RPG set in a medieval fantasy world, is out now for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Developed by the team behind 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, it focuses on crown prince Alain as he ventures to Fevirth to free it from the clutches of the traitorous general Valmore. Vanillaware’s Unicorn Overlord is out today, and as a tactical role-playing game from the team behind 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, it offers intriguing combat options, bonding between its dozens of characters and a gorgeous art style. It also has the developer’s most amount of content to date.

The long-awaited New Game+ update for is finally here but it's also managed to introduce a bizarre and potentially frustrating glitch to the game. The latest patch for Insomniac's hit super-hero game introduces a wealth of new content for both Peter Parker and his Spider-Partner Miles Morales as well as some quality-of-life improvements that make an already-excellent even better. As a free update, all of these extra features can be enjoyed without paying a cent but players need to be aware of a major bug that may ruin their enjoyment.

That Unicorn Overlord is developer Vanillaware’s most ambitious title to date is hardly in doubt. The tactical fantasy RPG is packed full of content, boasting over 60 playable characters, over a hundred hours of gameplay, and more, and it seems like the studio ran into some notable financial issues trying to get the game made.

Aesthetic, gameplay design, character interactions and story all appear at least vaguely reminiscent to the storied franchise — but what's present in this game is much more than just an imitation. Through its own complex and engrossing systems, is a legitimate competitor in a space that's been dominated by one entity (at least in the mainstream) for far too long.

In the meantime, publisher Atlus has released a trailer teaching potential players how the game's complex, real-time battle system works.

Vanillaware's tactical role-playing game, , will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 8, 2024. A demo for the game was announced, during the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase on February 21, coming to the Nintendo Switch that same day, and to other platforms the day after offering players the chance to jump into for nearly two weeks before the game's full launch.
