Helldivers 2 has a far bigger player base than the devs were prepared for, leading to ongoing server issues. Developer Arrowhead has reassured fans that it's still working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, some players may struggle to get into the game during busy periods.
This comes as Helldivers 2 continues to grow after an already successful launch, hitting a new all-time player peak over the weekend. On Steam, it had 333,827 players online at once, with these figures showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Arrowhead has provided a new statement on the issue of server capacity below, saying that it is "working without delay" and hopes to have a fix ready "as soon as possible".
Arrowhead has previously addressed these server issues which, at launch, were causing progression issues. This was back when its peak Steam player count was 155,926 though, so the need to increase server capacity has only become greater since then. To account for this progression bug, there's a 50 percent bonus on all XP earned over the weekend, which comes to an end later today.
Of course, this isn't the worst problem you can have as a developer. Helldivers 2 certainly seems to have exceeded everyone's expectations, quickly rising to become a Steam best-seller, and likely performing well on PlayStation 5 too, even if those figures are yet to be released.
In fact, Helldivers 2 is performing so well that it seems that Microsoft is feeling the burn. Earlier in the week, Xbox boss Phil Spencer commented on Helldivers 2's PS5 console exclusivity, saying, "I'm not exactly sure who it helps in the industry by not being on Xbox."
Since Helldivers 2 is published by Sony, we shouldn't hold our breath for that Xbox port though. Sony typically limits its game sharing to PC, and even that isn't something we usually get at launch, as we have with Helldivers. So, at the very least, it's not locked behind PS5 and is finding much success with its PC port according to its stats on Steam.

Helldivers 2's lead developer Johan Pilestedt seems open to a crossover with Destiny, saying that it would "make sense" for the setting. He even tagged Bungie in his comment, perhaps in a bid to see if the studio would be open to arranging some kind of collaboration for the two games.
players are teaming up to kill bugs, spread democracy, and, just maybe, to end the console wars once and for all. As a co-op game, in which the threats are much bigger and stronger than a single player could ever hope to be, teamwork is in its very nature. While things like teamkilling do happen in , its multiplayer meta focuses on communication and collaboration.
Helldiver 2‘s popularity has drawn in players from around the world ready to spread democracy across the galaxy. Unfortunately, Arrowhead’s servers weren’t prepared for just how popular the game was going to be, which has led to frustrating issues.
In its Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase event, it was revealed that Pentiment and Grounded, two Xbox exclusive Obsidian Entertainment games, are making the leap to the Nintendo Switch. It has been a tumultuous couple of weeks for Phil Spencer and Team Xbox after speculation and concern swept over the community regarding rumors indicating that Microsoft was considering becoming a third party developer, similarly to what Sega did after the Dreamcast. The uproar eventually pushed Phil Spencer to respond and announce that not only were they listening to fan concerns, but a planned poidcast around the company's future would reveal more.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has addressed lingering questions around the company stance on physical media following last year's leaks of an «adorably all-digital» Xbox Series X refresh, saying Microsoft continues to be «supportive» of the medium, and insisting «getting rid of physical, that's not a strategic thing for us.»
The open beta for the Xbox Series X/S version of Final Fantasy 14 has now started.
Helldivers 2 is a PlayStation console exclusive, so it’s not available on Xbox Series X or S. Not only has Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer voiced his disappointment in this, but so have many Helldivers 2 players, who are asking for more backup in the fight against the Terminids and Automatons.
Following comments from Xbox boss Phil Spencer over how he's unsure who's helped by Helldivers 2 not launching on Microsoft consoles, Xbox fans have set up a petition directed at PlayStation to try and convince them to bring the co-op shooter to Xbox Series X|S. Close to 23,000 signatures have been garnered so far, with the petition saying it «heralds the arrival of a beloved franchise on new platforms» and «signifies a potential turning point in the ongoing console wars».
Microsoft will bring four first-party titles to PS5, but it’s refusing to name which. Said titles will not include Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC, until circumstances change. Xbox bigwig Phil Spencer, however, has seen the success of Helldivers 2 – and is struggling to see the advantage of the PlayStation-published shooter not being available on Xbox.
Helldivers 2 players are calling for an AFK auto-kick feature to be implemented after many users reveal they are exploiting a simple trick to avoid log-in queues. While the new Helldivers 2 has proved to be wildly popular, its massive appeal has come with its fair share of problems as well.
The enormous success of Helldivers 2 continues, with the game officially outperforming both Fortnite and Call of Duty on PSN in the USA. Compared to the original game, Helldivers 2 is proving to be a breakout hit, with player counts rising daily.
