The sci-fi RPG is proving to be a big hit for Bethesda Game Studios. However, not everyone is impressed by all aspects of the game. One Twitter user posted a video negatively comparing it to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, prompting a Cyberpunk developer to defend Starfield.

Digital Foundry tested out the possibility by building a custom PC specced like an Xbox Series X.

Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield is available now for Xbox Series X/S and PC, amassing over six million players and topping physical sales charts in the United Kingdom. It was also in development for eight years, and despite that, as usually happens in the industry, some plans didn’t make it in.

Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield launched worldwide last week and has already topped the UK physical sales charts, per Gfk. However, as revealed in the full charts (via GamesIndustry), the sci-fi RPG has sold more copies on Xbox Series X/S than PC.

Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield had over one million concurrent players at launch and over six million players in total, and it seems to have scored big at retail as well. While the full UK physical retail charts from Gfk aren’t available yet, GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring confirmed that it debuted in first place.

With Starfield now out, modders are already beginning to use the tools that they have at their disposal to improve and change the massive sci-fi RPG in a number of ways. And of course, this being a Bethesda RPG, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding what will be possible once the game’s full modding toolset is at the disposal of the community.

Starfield has got off to a flying start, having enjoyed the biggest launch ever for a Bethesda game with over 6 million players across all platforms on the day of its release. Unsurprisingly, the numbers have kept steadily climbing over the course of the weekend as well, as evidenced by its figures on Steam.

If you've been exploring planets in the future, as told by Starfield, you might have noticed a distinct lack of land vehicles. It seems cars, trucks and SUVs are a thing of the past in Starfield's vision for the stars, but game director Todd Howard says adding vehicles would «change the gameplay.»

When exploring the seemingly countless planets in Starfield, you have the ability to scan whatever flora, fauna, and minerals you happen to come across. Normally, in games that let you do this such as the Metroid Prime trilogy, you need to perform the scan before you defeat the enemy or collect the object you’re scanning. Oftentimes, it can become a challenge in and of itself to remember to do this, particularly in the case of enemies that can often attack and interrupt you while you attempt to scan them. Naturally, many have assumed that scanning in Starfield works the same way, especially since the game allows you to scan manually with the press of a button.

Instead of using a glitch or bug, this Starfield player has found a clever way to steal lots of money using the game’s mechanics. Specifically, this dirty thieving rat (which we all are deep down inside) used physics to scoop up tons of credits, take them to a dark corner, and steal them all without getting caught.

It’s a little bit funny to think that, while Starfield features a brand new sci-fi galaxy to explore, it was also almost jokingly a known quantity for gamers well before launch. Bethesda Game Studios has a type of game that they make, and while Starfield’s story is of an adventure to find the unknown, the actual game itself feels immediately familiar.

This is applicable across both Steam and Xbox platforms, with even Game Pass members willing to fork over $31.49/ Rs. 2,519 for early access, despite the title being essentially free for them.

Hogwarts Legacy has jumped back to the top of the weekly charts for physical software sales in the UK, as per data provided by the Gfk (via GamesIndustry). The open world action RPG enjoyed boosted sales on all platforms thanks to a retailer promotion, with the PS5 version seeing a 266% increase in sales from last week, and the Xbox Series X version seeing a 249% boost. Collectively, all versions of the game enjoyed a 228% increase in sales.

Gfk’s latest physical sales charts for the United Kingdom are yet to be fully detailed. However, Chris Dring of Games Industry revealed that Starfield’s Premium Upgrade entered seventh place in the UK’s top ten.

Starfield will be released worldwide on September 6th, but it’s had hundreds of thousands of players courtesy of early access. Many are already having fun traversing the universe and its +1000 planets. However, not all have heaps of content, which matches director Todd Howard’s statement that only 10 percent have life on them.

Bethesda Game Studios’ titles have always had a reputation for being technically rough, buggy games, and though Starfield is very clearly the most polished a BGS game has been at launch in a long, long time, it still has its fair share of technical hiccups.

Starfield is a massive game that’s hiding a massive amount of content and tiny, little details beneath its sprawling surface, something that Bethesda Game Studios’ titles always have a knack for doing. And given how vast the game is, it’s safe to say that players are going to be discovering new things both big and small within the space-faring RPG for some time to come.

One of the biggest releases of the year, Starfield, is days away from its full global release, with owners of its Premium and Constellation Editions already having had early access for a couple of days, and unsurprisingly, the excitement surrounding the space-faring RPG’s launch has resulted in increased hardware sales for Xbox as well.

Shane Liesegang, the up-and-coming priest in question, actually served as a former writer for Bethesda who specifically worked on both Skyrim and Fallout 4. That former connection combined with Liesegang’s studies helped the team at Bethesda make one of Starfield’s original religions as authentic and believable as possible.
