For fans of Villagers and Heroes , there was a bit of a lull period due to a Data Center issue, but luckily those affected got a bit of good news because of the quick but slightly annoying server issue. 

Another day, another blowup over Overwatch 2 changes. In a recent blog discussing balance changes coming in Overwatch 2 Season 9, Blizzard revealed that all heroes will soon be given passive healing abilities. That certainly raised a lot of eyebrows, considering Overwatch already has an entire class of characters – the Support heroes – dedicated to healing. Blizzard claims the change is designed to reduce “damage spikes” during combat, although some may argue the cost of achieving that is too great.

Say what you will about Overwatch 2, but Blizzard Entertainment isn’t afraid to experiment with the core gameplay. Fresh off Quick Play: Hacked, game director Aaron Keller confirmed that features like Spawn Together would receive a tuning pass. Party Frames, the on-screen health bars for teammates seen in PvE, are also likely to arrive.

Big changes are coming to Overwatch 2 in the game’s next season as Blizzard Entertainment experiments with ways to shake up its hero shooter. Some of those changes are being tested right now, thanks to a weekend-long event called Quick Play: Hacked, in which the rules of Quick Play mode have been altered to make games much, much faster.

Rabbit and Bear Studios’ eagerly awaited turn-based RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is on track for launch in April. The developer confirmed that its ESRB and PEGI ratings are final, with the title rated Everyone 10+ and PEGI 12.

According to the developers at Heroic Games, 2023 marked a significant year for Ship of Heroes, bringing the game closer to its highly anticipated launch in 2024. City of Heroes is making an official return as a fan server dedicated to keeping the superhero multiplayer game running has been granted an official license by publisher NCSOFT.

NCSOFT has granted the popular Homecoming fan server a license to host City of Heroes, finally bringing the game back in an official capacity.

Super-powered MMO City Of Heroes closed down in November 2012, but in recent years it has been revived by industrious fans via privately-hosted servers. While those servers allowed caped crusaders to continue roleplaying, the caveat was that they could be shut down at any moment by the most dastardly supervillains of all: lawyers.

NCSoft has given City of Heroes: Homecoming an official license to operate its CoH server. The team confirmed the news and are sharing a FAQ on what this means for access and continued development.

The City of Heroes: Homecoming team has announced that they have been granted a license by NCSoft to continue hosting the classic 2004 MMO publicly.

If you were like me, the shutdown of the GOAT superhero MMORPG City of Heroes broke your heart into itty-bitty pieces—it also probably made you happy to see people playing it again when it was revealed that the game code had been salvaged in 2019. 

I've never really got on with mobas, the exception to the rule being Blizzard's excellent Heroes of the Storm. Inspired by Defense of the Ancients, the Warcraft 3 mod that birthed the entire genre, HotS was released in 2015 to a largely positive reception from critics and players. But despite the game's quality, and years of support from Blizzard, it never managed to reach that critical mass of players.

Blizzard Entertainment is currently working on a way to make newOverwatch 2 heroes free on launch.

Blizzard is hinting at a pretty massive change to its monetization model, with executive producer Jared Neuss saying on a recent podcast that the "goal" is to make all new heroes free for everyone at the start of new seasons.

When Overwatch 2 launched back in 2022, the franchise switched to a free-to-play model, and as you might expect, there have been some complaints about how Blizzard has chosen to monetize the game. One sticking point has been the fact that in order to access new Heroes, you either have to buy the premium version of the most recent seasonal battle pass (which costs $10) or complete a number of hero challenges, which takes time. This kind of setup isn’t unheard of in a live-service game, but in a game like Overwatch where character balance is such a major focus, locking some folks who don’t want to pay out of using a new character for a certain amount of time has been a bone of contention.

The wait for Suikoden spiritual successor, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, has felt like an eternity, although in reality, it was only revealed in 2020. Regardless, the release of the successful Kickstarter project (fronted by former Suikoden developers) is finally on the horizon, out on 23rd April on PS5 and PS4, and in a new trailer, we get our most extensive look at the game yet.

An extensive new trailer is available for Rabbit and Bear Studios’ Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, an upcoming turn-based role-playing game and spiritual successor to Suikoden. It offers information on the story, other heroes players will meet and new features like War Mode. Check it out below.

Falcom has announced the next title in its long-running Kiseki series – The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki – Farewell, O Zemuria. It launches in 2024 for Japan, though the platforms have yet to be announced. Though it seems to be a follow-up to The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, the focus is on an orbal rocket’s launch to investigate the ends of the continent.

Falcom has announced The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki – Farewell, O Zemuria, the 20th anniversary title in its Trails RPG series. It will launch for unspecified platforms in 2024 in Japan.

505 Games have released a chunky overview trailer for the heavily Suikoden-inspired RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes – which means it’s time once again for me to share that one Suikoden story I have about how I bought Suikoden 2 for PS1 but got bored and traded it in, and now PS1 copies of Suikoden 2 regularly sell for hundreds of pounds, and why, why, didn’t you keep that in your sock drawer, Edwin, instead of your prized vintage copy of V-Rally, current average eBay price £3.99???

Publisher 505 Games and developer Rabbit & Bear Studios have released a six-minute “Key Features” trailer for strategy RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Eiyuden Chronicle was first unveiled three and a half years ago, but players haven’t had many opportunities to get their hands on this fabled RPG. It was billed as a spiritual successor to Konami’s Suikoden series, the signature title from Rabbit & Bear Studios. To fill the void from the announcement until its inevitable release, Eiyuden Chronicle launched a spinoff action RPG known as Eiyuden Chronicle Rising to set the stage. 

Mobile Legends Bang Bang has dropped a new update which has new heroes, events and battlefield features. Obviously, there are a couple of buffs and nerfs as well. Developed by MOONTON Games, Mobile Legends Bang Bang is a 5v5 mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game.

Overwatch 2’s new hero, the dual-minigun-wielding Samoan tank Mauga, officially launched earlier this week with the game’s eighth season. Before that, Blizzard Entertainment added Mauga to the roster for an early preview weekend, which coincided with this year’s BlizzCon.

Ship of Heroes has just released an article and accompanything video about their one-of-a-kind system for players to augment their superpowers. A pair of dungeon-crawlers are about to make their way back to adventurers around the world with the announcement of Class of Heroes 1 & 2: Complete Edition for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

PQube has announced Class of Heroes 1 & 2: Complete Edition for PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC. It includes the remastered Class of Heroes: Anniversary Edition and Class of Heroes 2G: Remaster Edition, and will launch in early 2024 worldwide. The PC versions will be available separately via Steam (1, 2).

Today, Blizzard released a Diablo music compilation video. In that video, an image of Mephisto can be seen for a split-second — and not just any image: it is based on Mephisto concept art for Heroes of the Storm! Is this yet another sign? Foursaken, the creators of Adventure Company, the Block Fortress, and the completely truthfully-named War Tortoise 2, are set to bring a new game to Google Play, packed with their distinctive and detailed style of visuals. Bug Heroes: Tower Defense is a brutal war taking place in an ordinary neighborhood… just on a very small scale.

League of Legends' new champion Hwei is a human mage designed to be played in the mid-lane, and he has 10 different spells that take more than one button press to cast. If you happen to be a Dota 2 fan that might sound a little familiar, as Invoker—a wizard dating all the way back to Warcraft 3 mod Defense of the Ancients—basically does the same thing.

Arkane Austin released Title Update 3 for Redfall recently, with the only new content being the Basilisk, a new Unrivaled Sniper Rifle. However, it offers plenty of much-needed changes and fixes. Enemies like the Siphon and Soulless are deadlier, and general pathing for foes is improved. However, what does the future hold, especially with a “redemption arc” reportedly desired by Bethesda?

A few hours ago, Arkane Austin released the third major update for Redfall. The highlight of the patch is the addition of a new weapon called Basilisk, an Unrivaled Sniper Rifle that can petrify vampires with the first bullet of a full magazine. Basilisk can be found randomly wherever Unrivaled items usually drop, though it has a higher chance of appearing from Bellwether containers found in the open world and from vampire nests.

Arkane has dropped a new update for its undead shooter Redfall that adds a powerful new weapon, makes a number of changes to AI, missions, and gameplay, and introduces a handful of performance and stability tweaks. Unfortunately, it also reveals that the promised "Hero Pass," a $30 upgrade to the base game that promises two new heroes to play as, is still in development and won't be around until sometime in 2024.

Red Hook Studios has unveiled the first paid DLC pack for Darkest Dungeon 2: The Binding Blade, not to be confused with the Fire Emblem game that had Roy from Smash Bros. in it. The DLC is coming some time in December, and will add two new playable characters: the all-new Duelist, and the long-awaited return of Darkest Dungeon 1's Crusader.

Falcom is taking a break from The Legend of Heroes: Trails series this year following three back-to-back entries in Japan. While Ys 10: Nordics is the focus for 2023, the next entry in theTrails series is confirmed to launch by September 2024, per the company’s recent financial report.

Insomniac Games' for PlayStation 5 is filled with Easter eggs and character guest appearances. Part of the series' allure has always been finding these secrets and interacting with fan-favorite characters. Now, with Miles Morales being a main character in the series and not simply a spin-off or guest himself, Insomniac has a big job for any upcoming DLC to continue to expand the cast of characters.

Developer Red Hook Studios has announced a first paid DLC pack for its acclaimed horror sequel Darkest Dungeon 2. It's called The Binding Blade and will introduce two new heroes — one who'll be familiar to fans of the first game — when it arrives in December.

Red Hook Studios revealed the first DLC for Darkest Dungeon 2 as The Binding Blade. The new DLC will feature a handful of new features including two new playable heroes with their own unique trinkets, signature items, fully-voiced backstories, and a new roaming mini-boss.

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed the next three heroes of Overwatch 2, including Mauga, a new duel-wielding tank hero that hits the game next month. Plus, the Overwatch 2 team teased a new DPS hero and Support hero hitting the roster sometime down the line. 

Three new heroes and a new PvP game mode for Overwatch 2 were announced at this year's BlizzCon opening ceremony.

Next month will see the launch of Season 8 for Overwatch 2, which will add a new hero to the multiplayer shooter, but what else does Blizzard Entertainment have planned for the game beyond that? Recently, at BlizzCon 2023, the developer revealed some of those plans.

At Blizzcon 2023, Blizzard annouced Overwatch 2’s new heroes, its brand new Clash mode and upcoming seasonal themes for 2024.

BlizzCon 2023 kicks off today, and during the show’s opening ceremony, we were given a first peek at Overwatch 2’s new Samoan hero (the 39th in total) Mauga. A muscle-bound Tank character, Mauga wields a pair of chainguns and sounds like he’s going to be pretty hard to stop in the right hands. You can get a first peek at Mauga in action, below.

Falcom will release The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak for Switch on February 15, 2024 in Japan, the developer announced. Clouded Leopard Entertainment will release Traditional Chinese and Korean versions in Asia in March 2024.

Writer Jonathan Hickman's new Ultimate Universe has officially launched. And while readers previously got some hints from Marvel about what's in store, with some particularly interesting news about the new Ultimate Spider-Man already being teased by the publisher. 

NIS America has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 will launch for PS5 on February 16th, 2024. Last month, Falcom’s The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and IV were announced for PlayStation 5. Now the pair of RPGs are locked in for February 16, 2024.

The PlayStation 5 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV will launch on February 16, 2024, publisher NIS America announced. The titles will be sold via a two-in-one pack at physical retail and individually via PlayStation Store.

After collaborating with Diablo 4 for Trials of Sanctuary mode, Overwatch 2 is tying up with K-pop band LE SSERAFIM for a new game mode, cosmetics and more on November 1st. While further details are still to come, the music video for the band’s song, “Perfect Night,” showcases what could be upcoming outfits for certain heroes. Check it out below.

More than a year after Blizzard did an Old Yeller to Heroes of the Storm—«the only good MOBA» in the eyes of our weekend editor Jody Macgregor—a new patch has appeared on the public test realm, and it's got some fans hopeful for more to come.

Retro gaming is definitely having a moment right now, with October 2023 proving to be a huge month for classic characters and beloved franchises, and this week's episode of the One More Life podcast is a celebration of that.

Blizzard’s MOBA title Heroes of the Storm has been sitting in maintenance limbo for over a year now, with no major updates or content coming to the game. However, following a recently released patch, players have begun to feel hopeful about the game, with many wondering if we could see a potential revival on the horizon.

Our next Heroes of the Storm patch has just hit the Public Test Realm and will be available for playtesting. Game Developer Deep Dives are an ongoing series with the goal of shedding light on specific design, art, or technical features within a video game in order to show how seemingly simple, fundamental design decisions aren’t really that simple at all.

Dwarves may represent one of the biggest missed opportunities in . There are relatively few prominent main characters of the smaller races sprinkled throughout the entire game. There may be a handful of goblins in the camp, but they either die at the party's hands or are left behind after Act One of . There are the deep gnomes and duergar of the Grymforge and Moonrise Towers, but again, they either die or disappear. There may be the occasional halfling, dwarf, or gnome in the lower city, but most only appear briefly. In fact, many dwarves appear in the game, but most of them don't stick around.

Previous crossovers in World of Warships have added ships based on Popeye and Warhammer 40,000, as well as Chuck Norris. And yet there's something particularly baffling about the addition of a cast of characters from beloved 1999 turn-based strategy classic Heroes of Might and Magic 3 specifically.

World of Warships   is celebrating Halloween and collaborating with fantasy strategy title Heroes of Might and Magic III. Expect six  new themed commanders with voiceovers, a special map, and a special DLC bundle. Aside from the collaboration, the Halloween themed update introduces an updated operation, several new Japanese battleships, and much more on the way.

One of the major controversies of Overwatch 2 was how players would have to go about unlocking new heroes. Players who remember the first iteration of Overwatch will fondly think back of the days when heroes were available to play immediately after release, for free, too. But with a new battle pass systems, players can still unlock all of the new heroes for free, they just need to jump through some extra hoops. Fortunately, Blizzard is giving players another avenue of unlocking new heroes, according to an article from Forbes.
