Three new heroes and a new PvP game mode for Overwatch 2 were announced at this year's BlizzCon opening ceremony.
All of Overwatch 2's three hero play styles of damage, support, and tank were accounted for in the announcement. The first of the trio, a Samoan tank character named Mauga, will be playable for everyone ahead of his Season 8 release in a test period this weekend.
The remaining two heroes, a damage character named Venture and a support character codenamed «Space Ranger,» will be released next year in Seasons 10 and 12, respectively.
In addition to the heroes, a new PvP mode called Clash was announced. Clash features five points arranged in a row, with the objective being the full capture of all five points (or reaching the max score requirement) in order to win the match. Clash will make its debut on a revamped version of Hanamura called Hanaoka. The mode is set to drop sometime next year.

A couple of significant things happened in the world of online gaming over the first weekend of November. At its BlizzCon convention in California, Blizzard devoted quite a lot of time to World of Warcraft Classic — the nostalgic, retro version of its 19-year-old massively multiplayer game — and revealed surprisingly ambitious plans for Classic’s future. At the same time, Fortnite’s servers were melting under the load of its biggest day ever, which was all down to the launch of Fortnite OG, a special season bringing back the game’s original map and 2018 gameplay.

The announcement came during BlizzCon 2023 and Mauga was playable for that weekend only as a limited-time bonus trial run that was designed to go along with the event. Luckily, anyone who missed out doesn't have long to wait, as both Mauga and his guns are being added to the game permanently in just a few weeks.
People who play videogames want "new content literally almost every single day", according to Blizzard president Mike Ybarra - indeed, "they want new stuff every day, every hour". I do not want new stuff every day, every hour, Mike. Frankly, the idea makes me want to burn my possessions and go spend the rest of my life under a pine tree.
At BlizzCon 2023's opening ceremony, Blizzard announced Mauga as the 39th hero to be added to Overwatch 2 with the upcoming Season 8. A damage-based tank hailing from Samoa, Mauga was available to try both at home and at the event itself; we played a few games and discussed our first impressions here.
Blizzard recently introduced its 39th Hero to its multiplayer shooterOverwatch 2, in the form of Mauga, a tall, thick-set Samoan tank who, players have noted, looks rather like Pixar’s portrayal of the Polynesian demigod Maui in its animated film Moana. Well, it appears there’s more of a link between the two than just a passing resemblance, as Mauga directly references Maui in his voice lines.
Blizzard revealed the latest hero to join the ever-growing roster of its shooter Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon 2023. During an interview at the convention, Polygon got more details about Mauga, what players can expect from him, and the process of creating a new tank.
