A new range of comics based on roguelike game Cult of the Lamb is on the way from Oni Press in association with publisher Devolver Digital and developer Massive Monster. The initial release, Cult of the Lamb: The First Verse, is a graphic novel designed to expand the mythology of the game. It's written by All Against All and Red Goblin's Alex Paknadel and drawn by Rick & Morty's Troy Little.

After Skull and Bones failed to scratch my pirate itch, I recently returned to an old, familiar friend. Sea of Thieves is sailing into a new year, with a new slate of content planned. Rare has experimented with how to update and enhance the pirate sandbox game since its launch in 2018. The game has also left the Microsoft ecosystem and will be available to PlayStation players in April — which, of course, means there are a lot of new pirates on the high seas for the first time. Helldivers 2's ongoing co-op campaign of galactic conquest has been garnering a lot of attention lately.

The war continues in co-op sci-fi shooter Helldivers 2, and players have been informed that they must successfully defend a key planet in order to get their hands on new mechs. 

The three most important things to know about South Park: Snow Day are 1) that it's a roguelike-inspired battle game rather than an RPG, 2) it's 3D rather than 2D, and 3) the South Park TV show supplied over 50 different fart sound effects for use in the game. Arrowhead Game Studios has said that it knew that Helldivers 2's game master would be «divisive» with players.

It’s clear by now that Helldivers 2 is way more than just a simple bug hunt co-op shooter. On top of its surprisingly deep gameplay mechanics and an ever-evolving campaign narrative, though, there’s a whole extra layer of community-based meta-progression, with Supply Lines being a particularly notable highlight.

Many Helldivers 2 fans were surprised to learn that the game's wars are being directed by a D&D-style game master named Joel, and some still aren't sure how to feel about it. The devs behind the game say they knew the system was going to be divisive, but it adds a very unique dimension to the battle against the bugs and bots.

Modiphius Entertainment, the studio behind science-fiction-inspired tabletop games such as Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, Fallout: Factions, and the Homeworld TTRPG has leveled up. Its next offering is a cooperative, story-driven board game titled Mass Effect the Board Game — Priority: Hagalaz. Despite mostly going under the radar before it came out, Helldivers 2 proved that it’s got what it takes to reach the top charts. With a concurrent player cap of 700,000 players, Helldivers 2 has now revealed that it’s got a veritable “Game Master” coordinating its war efforts.

Altered, the novel new trading card game from startup Equinox Studio, has broken records with its inaugural crowdfunding campaign. With nearly $7 million earned from nearly 15,000 backers, it becomes the single most-funded TCG ever run on Kickstarter. The new card game, which will enter a crowded marketplace alongside games like Magic: The Gathering and Disney Lorcana, is expected to release on Aug. 26, 2024

When pop culture fandoms heat up, collectors begin to come out of the woodwork. Not speculators, mind you, like the pie-eyed, self-styled investor class that has glommed onto trading card games like Magic: The Gathering and Disney Lorcana. No, I’m talking about real collectors in search of rare artifacts, often from early on in the history of a given fandom.

The campaign to defend a single planet, Mort, from Helldivers 2's encroaching Automaton threat saw players die "over 10 million" times in the past two days alone. 

Helldivers 2‘s ongoing galactic war campaign could be positively filled with unexpected twists and turns, from the looks of it. After the unexpected Automaton onslaught immediately after the Terminid clash, the community is theorizing that the omnicidal bots might not be going after Super Earth, but Cyberstan instead.

The timing couldn’t be better. Just days after the Helldivers 2 community mourned the loss of fan-favourite map Malevelon Creek, it has emerged there is a single developer at Arrowhead pulling the strings of the galactic war like a D&D dungeon master.

Some of the coolest bits in the Terminator series, and definitely the source of its best video games, are the future war parts. Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance is an RTS that tries to follow in those robotic footsteps, spinning off of the most recent movie to put you in the boots of a military officer facing down the killer machines in the months after the nukes fall. Unfortunately, trying to combine that future war fantasy with a gritty real-time tactics formula falls short here, largely because the way your units fight and the campaign built around them feel like they were designed for two entirely different games.

EA is shuttering Ridgeline Games, the studio co-founded by former Halo developer Marcus Lehto that was tasked with developing the narrative campaign in the next Battlefield. The closure follows word of Lehto's departure earlier this week and coincides with a broader restructuring announced earlier today that will see EA lay off some 670 employees amid a shift away from future licensed IPs. The work that was begun on the Battlefield single-player campaign will continue.

NetEase has announced its latest AAA studio, BulletFarm, with Call of Duty veteran David Vonderhaar at the helm. BulletFarm is a brand new game development company working on “building a world-class team.” Though the studio is based in Los Angeles, California, it is remote-first.

On a planet that is not our own, in a timeline very different from ours, the last heirs of aristocracy cling to the shadows of a secluded mountain valley known as the Dramark. It’s only deep within the valley that a tiny, proud crust of civilization can be kept hidden from the Ruin (that’s what people call the light of the dying star that has been changing the countryside and its people for generations, turning them into monsters). Meanwhile, long-dead mechanical constructs called syllokinetics, automatons that were to be the people’s saviors, sit and wither on the horizon. Elsewhere, the Dramark’s lavish estates and their downstairs staff carry on as best they can.

It’s been just over a year since Inkulinati first went into Early Access, and the time since has been well spent with continual improvements and additions to make the full release a real strategy treat. The main concept – turn based strategy taking place on medieval manuscripts – remains as fun as it is distinctive and the depth of approaches and options elevate it even more. While it is the iconic manuscript characters that take centre stage, it is the balancing and challenge that will have you coming back for more.

I'm going to break from tight-fisted tradition by starting my discounts article with something that could not reasonably be considered a thrifty gamer purchase. That said, and despite its $549 price tag, I feel the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Collector's Edition is something most of us would want on our respective radars. If only for drooling purposes, at the very least. I can't wait to play this DLC. Am currently looking for a buyer for a few spare organs of mine, but have hit some T&Cs issues with Facebook Marketplace.

Helldivers, we have a problem. Undemocratic bug fodder has infested the ranks of Helldivers 2, and the toxic behavior of these players is putting a damper on what should be a glorious campaign for Super Earth.

Night Shyamalan had cast his upcoming live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. In his mind, Avatar was an explicitly Asian-inspired fantasy, an Eastern Lord of the Rings with martial arts. So why were all of Shyamalan’s actors white?

Before it set the role-playing world ablaze with Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios sent a considerably smaller, but still sizable, portion of video game role-players into a tizzy with its Divinity: Original Sin series. Itself a spinoff of the studio’s long-running Divinity franchise, Original Sin and its sequel charmed players with tongue-in-cheek storytelling and a Rube Goldbergian approach to fantasy battles, one where swinging a sword wasn’t the wrong way to play, but it certainly wasn’t the best one. Larian preferred its players create gonzo chain reactions on the battlefield, throwing barrels to spill oil over enemies who had tripped over ice because you froze the water underfoot and will now set them ablaze.

Forget the bugs and bots, Helldivers 2 players have a new enemy: Farmers.

While we all may enjoy a nice, long, and engrossing campaign in Age of Empires 2, sometimes you just want to speed things up and get to the good stuff. After a dozen or so games, it can get tedious to build up your civilization, gather all those resources, and get to the more exciting parts. That’s where cheats come in. These handy codes can be used to either make the game basically beat itself, or just give yourself a helping hand if you start to spiral. Each year’s Call of Duty sells like gangbusters and even the infamously lackluster Modern Warfare III campaign hasn’t stopped tens of millions of gamers swarming to its online modes.

Little Devil Inside has received a new trailer, more than two years since its last one, and almost nine years since its Kickstarter was launched. 

Battle-weary Diablo 4 and Path of Exile fans may finally have some common ground. Last Epoch has hacked and slashed its way out of a five-year Early Access period, and the 1.0 release of this ARPG strikes a fine balance between the approachability and high-speed action of Diablo 4 and the absurdly complex character-build diversity of Path of Exile. That’s thanks to a skill system that’s both easy to understand and offers tons of room to fine-tune your character however you’d like. Last Epoch’s roughly 20-hour campaign, however, only manages to start fresh before devolving into a derivative mess, though that’s somewhat forgivable when it’s basically just there to get you to its engaging endgame anyway. If you can stomach that, as well as some technical clunkiness that is most apparent in Last Epoch’s online multiplayer, the climb to level 100 is lined with mountains of great loot, fun fights, and meaningful power boosts that made it well worth sinking dozens of hours into.

When Backerkit’s crowdfunding platform formally launched in mid-2023, the company quickly made strides in the tabletop space, primarily by courting disaffected Kickstarter users. Jez Corden from Windows Central thinks this timing is in preparation for Season 4's release later in April, which is «the big one» according to Corden's sources. When Season 3 launched at the end of January, it was revealed in-game that the Season will end on April 16.

After a staggering 12-year run on Kickstarter, board game publisher CMON will take its crowdfunding and pre-order business exclusively to Gamefound. The founder of the Polish crowdfunding platform, Marcin Świerkot, told Polygon he was unable to disclose the terms of the agreement. There was a moment in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League where I set down my controller, wiped the tears from my eyes, looked at my TV and said aloud, “How. Dare. You.”  I got up, took the dog outside, grabbed something to drink, and whatever else I could think to waste a little time.  I just needed a moment.  I couldn’t believe that a game about otherwise expendable prisoners being coerced into para-military service to save the world could make me both laugh and tear up during the same 15-hour campaign.

Joaquin “Guac” Oliver died in the 2018 Parkland, Florida, high school massacre, but federal lawmakers who oppose tighter gun regulations began getting phone calls in his voice on Wednesday, lambasting them for their position. The families of Oliver and five others killed with guns are using artificial intelligence to create messages in their loved ones' voices and robocalling them to senators and House members who support the National Rifle Association and oppose tougher gun laws. The protest is being run through The Shotline website, where visitors select which offices receive calls.

Over the last decade, Mantic Games has been causing quite a stir in the world of miniatures wargaming with Kings of War. The game of fantasy battles is praised for its clear and concise ruleset as well as some head-turning models. But the British company’s science fiction lines, which include Deadzoneand Firefight, haven’t seen the same level of critical or commercial acclaim in the U.S. A new crowdfunding campaign could help change that — and further expose one of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise’s weakest flanks. Today, on the sixth anniversary of the launch of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse Studios has revealed to fans that the first-person open world action roleplaying game has now sold over six million units. Warhorse had conducted a pre-release Kickstarter campaign where fans pledged £1,106,371; the crowdfunding later continued on the official website to surpass $2 million raised. The Czech studio then signed a publishing deal with Deep Silver. It was later discovered that the total budget (including marketing) was around $36.5 million.
