We've been absolutely bombarded with quality RPGs consistently throughout the first quarter of 2024, and with the arrival of Dragon's Dogma 2 on the horizon, it looks like it's going to stay that way for a considerable amount of time. With so many RPGs and not enough time to play them all, you may be wondering if you have the time to squeeze Dragon's Dogma 2 into your schedule. Thankfully, it will only be an 80-hour-long epic if you actually want it to be.
Speaking with Game Informer in a recent interview, director Hideaki Itsuno revealed that players will be able to beat the game's main campaign in roughly the same amount of time as you can in the original, claiming that Dragon's Dogma 2's runtime shouldn't "change that dramatically from the first game". If you need a refresher, HowLongToBeat has the original Dragon's Dogma down at around 37 hours to complete the story.
For players that only focus on the things [to] go through the [game's campaign], the playtime itself shouldn't change that dramatically from the first game
However, that doesn't mean that Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to be a shorter experience than the original. While the game has a fairly manageable runtime for those happy with beating the story, Itusno reassures fans that there's plenty to do outside the main quest, and that your playtime will be "significantly longer" if you seek it all out.
"For the people that want to do everything, that see many things and are like, 'Oh, I want to do this thing, oh that looks interesting,' well, we put a lot of effort into adding as many elements as possible for this," says Itusno via a translator. "There's many things that could catch players' attention and for those people, they will probably find their playtime significantly longer."
Those that have played the original will know how time-consuming a Dragon's Dogma game can be, with HowLongToBeat claiming it takes over 100 hours to see everything. There's absolutely no reason to think that Dragon's Dogma 2 won't be the same, so it sounds like your play time may vary pretty heavily depending on just how much side content you indulge in. If you're rushing through to try and get ahead of your backlog, 37 hours is your total.
