Asgard’s Wrath 2 stands out in a sea of virtual reality titles available on the market today. As the showcase piece for the Meta Quest 3, this sequel offers an experience rarely seen in the category, weaving together an exciting blend of action, intricate puzzle design, and semi-open-world environments. With the clever use of VR mechanics, you discover new surprises even after playing for dozens of hours. Asgard’s Wrath 2 is a VR game that’s difficult to put down, even as the Quest 3’s battery life often requires you to. However, while it does start out strong, it hits a few stumbling blocks along the way.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a hidden exploit for Honour Mode that lets you save scum. While the mode typically doesn't let you exit the game without saving, there's a workaround for this, preventing the game from making an exit save, and therefore, letting you go back to a previous save file.

The next game from Battlefield studio Ripple Effect, the studio previously known as DICE LA, is aiming to deliver the most realistic destruction effects in any video game.

The most endearing aspect of the SteamWorld series is how each of its games relates to one another despite their disparate genres. Unfortunately, despite a solid foundation, SteamWorld Build struggles to maintain an engaging experience throughout its campaign.

Tekken 8 is the next entry in one of gaming's longest-running storylines, with the Mishima family's successional feud stretching back three whole decades, but the series is still introducing all-new fighters after all this time. 

Call of Duty cycles through its lineup of villains on a yearly basis. Sometimes it's Nazis, other times it's Russian nationalists or zombies. But the most dangerous threat is one without a lust for brains or access to weapons of war; it's stagnation. And while many Call of Duty teams often switch up just enough variables to stave off monotony, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III fully submits to the annual churn.   The campaign embodies this, as it rushes to a conclusion with little care for the details. COD missions usually follow a predictable yet mostly effective formula of packing together various one-off gameplay mechanics through fluctuating levels of intensity. Modern Warfare III cuts out necessary buildup and most of the variety, leading to basic stages riddled with pacing issues. Many max out at around 15 minutes, which means the usual rollercoaster of ups and downs has been stripped down to only include the descents. The spectacles are also less bombastic, and the abbreviated journey to them only further diminishes their appeal.

When the original Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl came out in 2021, it was a relatively bare-bones experience, but those bones were solid. Despite lacking many single-player modes, items, and even character voices, the core gameplay was good enough to keep the game afloat until it received refinements via online updates over the next two years. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, however, comes packaged with all those improvements and more. Developer Fair Play Labs has learned its lessons, and while the game isn't without its faults, it's a more-than-worthy follow-up.

Realms of Ruin, an overly simplistic RTS that focuses on low unit count skirmishes, definitely evokes the spirit of Age of Sigmar, which is unfortunately the worst version of Warhammer. It's far more forgiving than its grandiose Old World counterpart, Total War: Warhammer, but only a fraction as satisfying or interesting to play. Clumsy movement and a baffling hands-off approach to combat consign Realms of Ruin to the ever-growing graveyard of mediocre Warhammer games.

I played 2018's For The King by chance, when I randomly stumbled across it on Xbox Game Pass. It's the type of game I'd have never played if I'd had to pay for it first, but I ended up sinking so many hours into it that I eventually just bought it outright. I explored every single map and unlocked every scrap of lore, easily putting in over 50 hours. So when I heard that IronOak Games was making a sequel, I was excited to do everything all over again—although perhaps not quite to the degree that For The King 2 has in mind.

Warner Bros. Games has announced that the Harry Potter action-RPG Hogwarts Legacy sold over 22 million copies by the end of 2023, with roughly 2 million of those sales over the December festive period. «But it’s not just the units sold that I’m so proud of, it’s just that it delighted the fans so much,» Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad told Variety.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released last year and quickly became one of the most talked about games in quite some time. It’s a title that fans have gravitated towards and shared their enjoyment online. Playing Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox is a bit risky right now. You might lose your entire save file at the drop of a hat, despite Larian Studios' attempts to fix the issue. That's because it's a firmware problem to do with the console itself, meaning that Microsoft is the one who has to sort it out. Luckily, a fix is imminent.

Remember when Valve made an ingenious pair of puzzle games about portals and then failed to count to three? Nothing new there, but it's a shame Portal remains one of Valve's forgotten children while the company aims to keep exploring Half-Life. These days, the hallowed halls of Aperture Labs only make an appearance when Valve needs a quick and quirky tutorial for its latest VR hardware or PC handheld. I spent the better part of my holiday break leaping from one real-time strategy game to another: a They Are Billions failed run here, a Command & Conquer: Red Alert skirmish there. I even dug up my physical copies of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth and its sequel from my parents’ basement. Genki’s new wave of gaming accessories has landed on Amazon, following the company’s successful Kickstarter campaign. This includes the new version of Genki’s Covert Dock, which can serve as a dock replacement for the Nintendo Switch, as well as a USB-C hub for just about anything else you may want to easily connect to a TV or monitor, including laptops, or a Steam Deck. This gadget looks like the previous version that I reviewed, but it can charge at 45 W instead of 30 W, and it supports 4K resolution at 60 Hz instead of topping out at 1080p. It’s a great value at $59.99.

 The video game begins with a disturbing scene: a city almost entirely underwater. The city's developers must reclaim land from the sea in order to build new infrastructure, but too much digging will trigger earthquakes and raw materials are scarce. Survival is contingent on finding workarounds, and on installing tidal turbines and other technologies that can harness renewable energy. Squaring such big circles might not sound like a fun way to spend a Saturday. But when Terra Nil — a city-building strategy game from Cape Town-based Free Lives — hit the market last year, players from all over the globe signed up to give it a go. Within a week of the game's debut, more than 300,000 people played it. 

Baldur's Gate 3 has a lesser-known ending for dead player characters, letting you haunt the epilogue party. To pull it off, you have to get Gale to sacrifice himself at the end to destroy the Netherbrain, but without teleporting his friends to safety. If you do this, you'll die, but Withers will still invite you to the big meet-up in the epilogue.

Fans of the Warcraft series unite as a team of modders has released a proper Warcraft 2 remake within the Warcraft III: Reforged engine.

Nearly 13 years after the debut of Portal 2, fans of the beloved first-person puzzle game were supposed to be rewarded with the Jan. 5 release of a prequel campaign from Second Face Software. The fan-made mod, dubbed Portal: Revolution, will add over eight hours of gameplay and 40 new test chambers to the sequel game.

Is there a better way to start the year than playing a new Yakuza / Like a Dragon game? It was Yakuza 0 that fronted the first few months of a memorable 2017 for Japanese gaming fans, and now Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is primed and ready to begin another hot streak for the country's developers seven years later. The likes of Persona 3 Reload and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will follow in the weeks that proceed it, but the joint adventure of Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu is what you'll want to play first. 2024 opens with the SEGA series in its prime.

There’s been plenty of acquisitions lately in the video game industry. Things might be settling down a bit now after that massive purchase from Microsoft when it came to Activision Blizzard. However, that doesn’t stop some fans from speculating about some of the independent game studios still out there. CD Projekt Red is one of the more notable studios that might have gained some attention. This company has made quite a name for itself with the release of The Witcher franchise.

It has been a while since we’ve heard about controversial MMO Magic to Master. The game had a crowdfunding campaign that had been found to have used fake testimonials, including one credited to MMORPG.com. The team pulled those reviews, claiming they were placeholders never meant to be published. After working to settle down controversies with crowdfunding and a copyright infringement accusation from Gameforge, the team at Laniatius has released a new video with a launch window for their “Oriental Hack and Slash” MMO.

In an official blog post, Blizzard confirmed the next update for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight will drop on January 16. Titled Seeds of Renewal, the update brings a handful of new content to the popular MMORPG as well as concludes the current storyline campaign of the Dragon Isles.

2023 kicked off with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos reiterating that in spite of the success Rian Johnson’s crowd-pleasing mystery-comedy Glass Onion had in its brief theatrical release, Sarandos had no regrets about not putting it into more theaters. The release functioned as it was meant to, as a promotional campaign for the movie’s availability on streaming. In other words: Netflix is not in the movie-release business, it’s in the Netflix business. And its business model does not typically involve anyone having one of their best movie-theater experiences of the year.

After farming materials for her and going through Chevreuse’s character Ascension stages in , you can optimize her as the support and healer unit that she is. Chevreuse is a 4-star Pyro polearm character introduced as both an NPC and a playable character in Version 4.3. In the story, Chevreuse is the captain of a special patrol unit in the Nation of Fontaine and operates as something akin to an investigator. The 4-star hero was at the forefront of the campaign of the flagship event in 4.3, named “Roses and Muskets”, alongside Ayaka Kamisato and a list of other important characters.

There is one major change in ’s Gen 10 open-world games that could make the titles even better, whenever they arrive. Currently, the classic Nintendo franchise is in the early stages of Gen 9, with the release of inaugurating the current Generation in November 2022. The core games completed their first anniversary and have seen the release of two expansions via the DLC pack. At the moment, it is unknown when Gen 10 games will arrive, though predictions point toward late 2025 – and Nintendo has yet to release the rumored Gen 5 remakes before Gen 10 arrives.

Just over a month away from its PS5 and PS4 release, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is getting new gameplay footage on the regular, and this latest chunk of combat from Famitsu is a treat. The 20-minute video focuses on several multiplayer boss fights (which are also playable solo with CPU allies). As we keep saying, the action RPG looks super promising, especially as full teams of four can coordinate their attacks to rack up huge combos and deal crazy damage.

Not content with aping Animal Crossing in its off-the-wall island building minigame, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will also add a Pokémon-inspired experience to its ever-expanding list of things to do. Sujimon, as its known, will see you collecting eclectic characters from all around Hawaii, and training them to create the ultimate team. Your goal is to dethrone the existing champions of the Sujimon battle world: the Discreet Four and the Sujimon Master.

Something would need to go seriously wrong during development for Capcom to mess up its remake of one of the best games of all time, but that shouldn't take away from what Resident Evil 4 is in 2023: an outstanding achievement that's still the pinnacle of horror meets action. Faithfully bringing back the original campaign for the modern era, this PS5, PS4 remake goes above and beyond with new content, better combat, and elite graphics. It is a remaking masterclass from the Japanese heavyweight that ensures Resident Evil 4 remains one of the greatest games ever made — and still one that can compete for accolades such as Game of the Year.

The modernized and remade PC version of tactical shoot 'em up R-Type Tactics 1 and 2 is clearly not coming this year as previously listed. Developer Granzella has announced that R-Type Tactics I — II Cosmos is in fact coming in fall 2024, instead, during a recent livestream.
