January has almost finished, and 2024 has already started dishing out the horror flicks. This past month saw the release of, a film about a ghostly pool, and the political slasher. However, the year has only just begun, and there are countless other horror flicks heading their way into theaters soon.

A couple weeks ago, I gushed about a new fantasy farming RPG that caught my attention amid so many other "cozy" games for its roots in Japanese mythology. Well, I decided to check up on its Kickstarter and, hot damn, I'm clearly far from the only one excited about Tales of Seikyu.

Despite drawing comparisons to, the core gameplay of centers more heavily around building bases than battling creatures — which unfortunately means that moving bases, or building multiple bases, can be a tedious and time-consuming task. Luckily, the game has built-in features to mitigate the need for multiple bases and rebuilding structures, which can make moving an already-built base much easier than simply rebuilding it from scratch, or having to manage multiple locations in different parts of the world.

Let's be real: 2023's sheer quantity and quality of game releases are likely to remain unmatched for a long time, so 2024's most anticipated games list might look a bit puny by direct comparison. However, despite some lingering unknowns (will Dragon Age: Dreadwolf launch this year after the planned Summer reveal? Could Metroid Prime 4 be released as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title?), even if nothing else happens, the calendar already offers a solid schedule of new games to look forward to. Strategy and simulation games remain my go-to genres whenever I pick up the latest Atari console or turn on my rig to see the Windows XP startup. The reason is and always will be simple: I like to keep my brain ticking along, slightly delaying the decay that would lead to dementia. I am in my mid-thirties now; it's just a ticking time bomb; were this the middle ages, I would be the village elder. 2024 looks fairly similar to last year for shooter games fans in that there are very few big names on the list. We still don't know exactly what id Software and The Coalition are doing, while DICE's next Battlefield isn't launching any time soon. There will be a new Call of Duty game, of course, but it's hard to get too excited about it after Modern Warfare III.
