Helldivers 2 (February 8 - PC, PlayStation 5)
The first game on the multiplayer games list is also the closest to release. Arrowhead is once again partnering with Sony on this sequel, which makes the big jump from top-down view to third-person. Much of the rest of the game remains similar: Helldivers 2 asks players to grab up to three friends, land on a planet, and exterminate aliens, all in the name of democracy. In true Arrowhead style, though, players are highly advised to beware of the devastating danger of friendly fire, which is enabled at all times.
ARK 2 (Fall 2024 - PC, Xbox Series S|X)
ARK 2 was featured on the multiplayer games list last year. That's because it was originally announced for a 2023 release window until developer Studio Wildcard delayed it to late 2024.
Regardless, it's still an obligatory addition even in 2024. The original game was a knock-out success (it had sold 5.5 million units as of August 2016) and remains popular to this day. This sequel made with Unreal Engine 5 plans to be quite different, though, to the point that Studio Wildcard decided to remake the original to keep them separate for the respective fanbases. ARK 2 will abandon the first-person view to focus solely on third-person gameplay featuring 'advanced character movement' with mantling, free-climbing, parkour, swinging, and sliding. The combat is deliberately modeled after the Soulslike genre, so players can expect blocks, dodges, combos, staggers, special attacks, and the like. And this time, you'll be partnering with none other than Vin Diesel in the story.
Dune: Awakening (2024 - PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X)
Unlike the other survival games on this list, Funcom's Dune: Awakening has the benefit of a powerhouse IP. The Norwegian developer and publisher partnered with Legendary Studios nearly five years ago to create games in the universe conceived by Frank Herbert.
The RTS/4X game Dune: Spice Wars already launched, but Funcom's big project is Dune: Awakening. Originally presented as a survival game (with a scope further increased after Tencent acquired the studio), it was actually unveiled to be a hybrid MMO game, which makes perfect sense given the history

Board gamers are interesting folks. They like to look back at what was hot or not in the previous year. A second favorite pastime, much like a young Luke Skywalker, is looking forward instead of focusing on the here and now. And while many of us have shelves of shame practically overflowing, what better way to add to that first-world problem than by looking forward to what’s coming in 2024. If 2023 was any indication, there’s a lot to look forward to.
Microsoft will let go of 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard and Xbox this week, it said on Thursday, the latest cuts in the technology sector that has extended massive layoffs over the past years into 2024.
Let's be real: 2023's sheer quantity and quality of game releases are likely to remain unmatched for a long time, so 2024's most anticipated games list might look a bit puny by direct comparison. However, despite some lingering unknowns (will Dragon Age: Dreadwolf launch this year after the planned Summer reveal? Could Metroid Prime 4 be released as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title?), even if nothing else happens, the calendar already offers a solid schedule of new games to look forward to. Here's our Top 10 most anticipated games of 2024.
Strategy and simulation games remain my go-to genres whenever I pick up the latest Atari console or turn on my rig to see the Windows XP startup. The reason is and always will be simple: I like to keep my brain ticking along, slightly delaying the decay that would lead to dementia. I am in my mid-thirties now; it's just a ticking time bomb; were this the middle ages, I would be the village elder. So, I will stave off this decay for another year with multiple roles of general, businessman, or village elder.
2024 looks fairly similar to last year for shooter games fans in that there are very few big names on the list. We still don't know exactly what id Software and The Coalition are doing, while DICE's next Battlefield isn't launching any time soon. There will be a new Call of Duty game, of course, but it's hard to get too excited about it after Modern Warfare III.
2023 wasn’t a banner year for sports or racing games, although it did serve up some solid efforts in the form of the new Forza Motorsport, MLB The Show 23, and more. Will 2024 be a better year? That remains to be seen. It’s always hard to predict what the annualized sports titles will deliver, but we do know the TopSpin franchise is returning, and I’d like to see what MLB The Show 24 pitches us after last year’s addition of the exciting new historical Storylines mode. Lace ‘em and/or gas ‘em up, it’s time for Wccftech’s Most Anticipated Sports and Racing Games of 2024…
Expansions and DLCs have long been part of the gaming industry as developers and publishers continuously seek ways to monetize a successful release beyond the initial purchase. While some gamers may scoff at the mere thought, the best examples of expansions and DLCs have delivered truly incredible gaming experiences that built upon an already great foundation and elevated it even further.
2023 was an excellent year for indie games, but 2024 is setting out to be an even better one thanks to the release of some hotly-anticipated titles from developers who become industry darlings with their previous titles and spiritual successors that will make this a year to remember.
The Xbox Game Pass subscription service is losing Hitman: World of Assassination on Wednesday, January 31. Xbox Game Pass subscribers know to expect game removals on the 15th of each month and the last day of each month. However, there are times when the Xbox Game Pass removals stray from the established pattern and happen on unexpected days.
Nintendo Switch owners have gotten not one but three Kirby titles within the past couple of years, as well as the first original 2D Mario platform game to hold a 90+ Metacritic score since Super Mario World. It’s fair game to say that Nintendo fans have been eating well, but will their appetite be satisfied going into 2024? Fans across all platforms should have plenty to be excited for and these represent some of the platform games that Wccftech considers highly anticipated throughout the new year.
