The Gfk has released (via GamesIndustry) the latest weekly physical sales data for the United Kingdom, as per which Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game in the region last week, thanks to a combination of the launch of its Nintendo Switch version and Black Friday discounts. In fact, as per GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring, the open world RPG has enjoyed the 2023’s third-biggest physical launch for a Switch title in the UK, behind only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. 

After months of silence, Rocksteady Studios and WB Games recently revealed a bunch of new details and gameplay footage for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Now, another brief new trailer has also been released for the upcoming open world shooter, shining a spotlight on Harley Quinn and her gameplay mechanics.

Despite a job listing hinting at live service aspects, has said that the upcoming game will not be a live service title.

With Warner Bros. talking about converting its biggest franchises into always-online titles with live service elements, there was a fear that the same would happen to Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman. A listing for Lead Software Engineer, Gameplay, at the developer asking for “experience helping maintain a live software product or game” didn’t help either.

In addition to new story details and gameplay, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice has seen its Steam listing updated with system requirements. They’re surprisingly not too crazy, with Windows 10 (64-bit) and DirectX 12 required for all configurations. You also need 65 GB of installation space, only 20 GB more than WB Games Montreal’s Gotham Knights.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League recently received an extensive new gameplay look, with Rocksteady discussing the story and showcasing the combat, including mechanics like Juggle Kill and Counter Shot. The Standard and Deluxe Editions are also available to pre-order, with PS5 players getting a special Rogue Outfits bundle. However, that’s not all they benefit from.

Despite artwork potentially emerging for Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman, the production has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement in December 2021. It’s an open-world title and features the Nemesis System from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor/War. Otherwise, we know very little about the title.

Following its gameplay reveal last week, Warner Bros. Games’ Hogwarts Legacy is out later today on the Nintendo Switch. Some have gotten their hands on it, including SwitchUp on YouTube, and while the action RPG runs “reasonably well” on Nintendo Switch, it does have a big flaw – the open world is no longer seamless.

The newest season for Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasions mode is now available. Season of the Blood Mon features Nitara from a timeline where Vaeternus reigns supreme. Upon learning that her species failed in other timelines, she rallies her forces for an invasion.

We haven’t heard a peep out of Rocksteady Studios and WB Games about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League since the game was delayed by nearly a year into February 2024, and questions about what shape the title is in have become increasingly louder, especially as its launch draws closer. Not long from now, however, we’ll be getting out first update on it in several months.

WB Games titles are no strangers to controversy surrounding monetization methods, and sure enough, Mortal Kombat 1 has attracted some of that as well, having drawn criticism from the community for its lack of alternate skins in DLC, and its recent Halloween-themed $10 Premium Fatality, among other things.

Mortal Kombat games have a history of adding popular cross-media guest DLC characters over the years, many of which are often voiced by their original actors- though things don’t always turn out that way. For instance, though it’s been previously confirmed that Invincible’s Omni-Man and DC’s Peacemaker will be voiced by J.K. Simmons and John Cena respectively when they join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster, fellow DLC guest character Homelander of The Boys fame won’t be voiced by his original actor, Antony Starr.

Though Hogwarts Legacy has been out for several months now, those intending to play the open world action RPG on the Nintendo Switch have had to wait for the game longer than those on other platforms- though that wait is coming to an end. With the game set to launch for the Switch next week, a new trailer has been released by Nintendo over on Twitter.

During its latest Q3 earnings call, CEO David Zaslav confirmed that the company plans to transform its biggest video game franchises into long-term products, bolstered by regular content drops and heavy monetisation. In recent years, gamers have developed a distaste for such money-hungry practices, which often lock out content behind some form of paywall or a battle pass, instead of providing a complete game at launch. The idea is for players to keep playing WB-published games for months, instead of having AAA developers put out a new game every three to four years — which is the general cycle.

Publishers have been eyeing the live service space for as long as it’s been around, and even though there’s been no shortage of examples of single player titles enjoying widespread critical and commercial acclaim even in recent memory, major players in the industry continue to make efforts to expand their live service efforts.

Hogwarts Legacy kicked the year off as one of its earlier major releases with its February launch on current-gen consoles and PC, which was followed by the open world action RPG coming to last-gen consoles in May. Nearly a month after launch, NetherRealm Studios has released its first major patch for Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch. It’s not too heavy on details, but there are improvements to the visuals, performance and loading times, and stability, localization and leaderboard fixes.

Though most of this year’s titles were released on time without much hassle, there are still some delays. For instance, Warner Bros. Games’ Batman: Arkham Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch. Set to release on October 13th, the publisher has announced a sudden delay to December 1st.

SAG-AFTRA members have voted to authorise a new strike against the video game industry, with an overwhelming 98.32 percent in favour. The union claims that 34,687 members cast ballots, representing 24.49 percent of eligible voters. Bear in mind that this authorisation does not guarantee the strike will happen, but that the union members are serious about stopping work if the unions fail to reach a fair agreement with the companies. The voting period began on September 5 and ended on Monday, September 25, ahead of new negotiations that kickstart on September 26 (PT). If it goes through, this would mark the second video game strike since a similar action took place in 2016 — lasting nearly a year.

WB Games and Monolith Productions announced a Wonder Woman game nearly two years ago, and though details on the superhero title have been next to nonexistent since then, it seems new concept art has emerged to offer a glimpse of the studio’s vision for the game.

As we approach Gamescom Opening Night Live, the list of games that will be making an appearance during the show continues to grow, and another major upcoming release has now been added to that list.

Those who pre-ordered NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 can look forward to the upcoming beta this weekend. It’s a little ridiculous that, nearly seven years into the Nintendo Switch’s life, we’ve still not seen Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham trilogy release for the platform. Better late than never though, because that will be changing soon. In June, WB Games announced that Batman: Arkham Trilogy would be coming to the Switch this Fall, and now, a specific release date has been announced.

From its steady stream of character introduction trailers to gameplay showings to new gameplay tidbits being shared here and there, Mortal Kombat 1 has looked increasingly promising in all that we’ve seen of it so far. But while we have, of course, learned plenty about its story, its rebooted universe, its roster, and some of its biggest gameplay changes, one area where we’re still almost completely in the dark is what modes the game will have on offer.

NetherRealm Studios has been knocking it out of the park with all of the Mortal Kombat 1 trailers it has put out so far, and that continues with its newest one. EVO week has brought with it plenty of new updates on some of the biggest upcoming fighters, and with a new trailer, NetherRealm, too, has confirmed three more characters for Mortal Kombat 1’s roster.

Mortal Kombat 1 has been making an increasingly strong impression each time it has been shown off, from the new mechanics it’s introducing to the characters being revealed for its roster to the premise of its new, rebooted universe- but of course, there’s always room for improvement. For instance, those who’ve managed to get their hands on early builds of the game – like with June’s online stress test – have brought up the game’s slower movement speed and issues with the dashing. It seems, however, that NetherRealm Studios has already made improvements on that front.

Single player story modes tend to be the weakest parts of most fighting games, but the Mortal Kombat franchise has traditionally been the biggest exception to that rule. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 is looking like it’s going to continue that tradition, and its promise of a new and rebooted universe has certainly got series fans more than a little excited- but how lengthy will the game’s story mode be?

Gleefully over-the-top violence has been Mortal Kombat’s MO for as long as the series has been around, and given how crucial it’s become to its very identity, every new game in the franchise is expected to up the ante on that front in new ways. Mortal Kombat 1 is, to one’s surprise, looking like an another festival of carnage and viscera in all that we’ve seen of it so far, and it seems that will extend to a rather unique minigame as well.
