We’ve all heard of Persona — it’s one the undisputed kings of the RPG right now, each game pitting one unwitting school kid against an evil adult, using an army of angels and demons to achieve the insurmountable odds stacked against them. But how many people have played a Shin Megami Tensei game, the franchise from which Persona was born? We’d guess comparatively few people. Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is the latest opportunity to change that.

After a three-year gap, the longest ever between a new game or a spinoff, Persona fans have had a busy six months or so. Persona 5 Tactica launched at the end of 2023, and Persona 3 Reload followed it to kick off 2024. Big games that will consume a lot of your time if you let them releasing very close together, and if you're the kind of Persona fan who is absolutely fine with that, you're likely also the kind of fans who likes their love for the series to be reflected in what they wear.

The full Persona 3 Reload soundtrack is now available on music streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Spanning 62 songs across 2 hours and 15 minutes, the soundtrack is one heck of ride, made up of immaculately smooth beats and rousing battle themes. We can't recommend it enough.

The original Shin Megami Tensei 5 on Nintendo Switch is already a long game, clocking in at around 70 hours if you want to see most of what the RPG has to offer — and its expanded re-release, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, will apparently double that runtime. That is, if you play through the game twice, since Vengeance's main selling point is the addition of a new storyline that branches off from the existing release.

Metaphor: ReFantazio might not be a Persona game, but developer Atlus is keeping up a trend solidified by its beloved JRPG series by making its user interface absolutely gorgeous, and fans say it's a great example of why UI designers deserve to be paid generously.

Atlus game fans are looking forward to Metaphor: ReFantazio, but the game is going to be missing a common mechanic of Persona games that players enjoy: building romances with NPCs. While the mechanic may be missed, it's another indication that Metaphor: ReFantazio and its Shin Megami Tensei and Persona predecessors do differ, despite their similarities.

Over the past 24 hours, Atlus has been showcasing gameplay and answering questions about Metaphor, which is where it was revealed that the game will not feature any romance options.

Veteran Atlus artist and character designer Kazuma Kaneko has left the Japanese company. Kaneko departed in 2023, ending a tenure that lasted 35 years, joining Tokyo-based publisher and developer COLOPL. He revealed the same in an official interview recently published by his new employer.

Atlus has announced that its next game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, will launch on October 11 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. 

Atlus first teased that it was working on a new RPG with a fantasy setting in mid-2023 — it also said way back then that it will be available sometime this year. Now, the developer has revealed that the game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, will come out on October 11 at a special livestream event. Katsura Hashino, the director of the game, as well as of Persona 3, 4 and 5, also introduced a 30-minute hands-on gameplay that gives you quite a lengthy look at its story and combat mechanics. Similar to the Persona games, Metaphor: ReFantazio has a turn-based combat system with what Atlus says is a «blend of real-time action.»

Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new RPG by the team behind Persona 5 among other RPGs, officially has a release date. In a special showcase streamed Monday, Atlus revealed that Metaphor will be out October 11, putting it squarely in the holidays.

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios recently received a gift package from Alan Wake 2 and Control developer Remedy Games, and it came with a letter penned by none other than Alan Wake himself. It's a fun read, an in-character mix of two game worlds worth of lore, filtered through the persona of one gaming's most iconic writers, and spliced with the events of today's industry. In an effort to extend Persona 3 Reload for as long as humanly possible, one player has ground out the remake's combat until their stats were totally maxed, just like the good-old days.

Usually, it takes a while for new game releases to drop to nearly half off in price. For Persona 3 Reload, Atlus’ remake of the beloved title, it took less than two months. Amazon, Target, and Best Buy are each offering the game for $39.99 (was $69.99).

Persona 3 Reload's developers have teased what to expect of the additional content in the upcoming Episode Aigis: The Answer DLC, including new songs, Fusion Spell Theurgies, and even socialization events. Shortly after Persona 3 Reload launched this past February 2, Atlus revealed a post-launch DLC plan, with the Expansion Pass adding three waves of content.

Persona 3 Reload unfortunately won't be receiving the playable female protagonist, Kotone, seen in another version of the classic, and now, the game's producer has apologized for the exclusion. 

Persona 3 Reload is far from what you'd consider to be a short game. Much like the majority of the Persona series, players can expect to spend hours of their time plugging away through the lengthy story, interacting with characters, and engaging in side-content. 

The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for February, and it seems like it was a pretty solid month for the industry. Players spent $4.7 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in February, up 2 percent year-on-year. Hardware was a weak spot, down 30 percent year-on-year, with PS5 #1 in terms of unit and dollar sales, Switch #2 in terms of unit sales, and Xbox Series X/S #2 in terms of dollar sales.

Atlus has now confirmed you will need to buy pieces of content you probably don't want if you wish to play the Episode Aigis DLC for Persona 3 Reload, as the expansion is locked behind the £28.99 / $34.99 Expansion Pass. It won't be up for purchase separately, with a PR representative telling Push Square «the three parts of the Expansion Pass will not be available separately, and only available as part of the full pass».

The so-called Expansion Pass for Persona 3 Reload is now available to pre-order in regions where it's the 12th March — which means that we now know how much it's going to cost. In New Zealand, for example, it's priced at $56.95, which roughly equates to £30 in the UK and $35 in the US.

Episode Aigis, the paid expansion that's coming to Persona 3 Reload in September, was originally going to be included in the remake itself.
