The original Jurassic Park was something of a cultural marvel 30 years ago and it’s held up quite well in many ways. The 90s were bloody strange, and 1998 was no exception. We’re talking about the year that Google was founded, that the fervour of the FIFA World Cup was in France, while Bill Clinton was denying all sorts of things in the US, and in Japan, Hideo Kojima released a game that shot him into the halls of video game fame: Metal Gear Solid. It was a strange and different time.

Modders Zoft and Triggerhappy have brought crouch walking to the PC version of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1. Available on Nexusmods, MGS3 Crouch Walk allows for players to find a happy medium between belly crawling and upright walking (via PCGamer).

A Felix the Cat collection has popped up on the ESRB website.

First reported by DSOGaming, modders Zoft and Triggerhappy have introduced crouch walking to Metal Gear Solid 3's Master Collection port on PC. The intermediate movement option between upright locomotion and belly crawling was embraced by later Metal Gear games, but Snake Eater's 3DS port was previously the only version of the game to feature the movement.

We’re about to gain access to even more retro classics on Switch (and several other platforms) come January. The Top Racer Collection features remastered SNES racing games to play, and it’s set to launch on January 11, 2024 on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One/Series S|X, and Steam.

When the game was first released in 1998, the boss battle with Psycho Mantis was truly game-changing, breaking down the fourth wall. Konami has fixed one of the more glaring issues with the Master Collection version of Metal Gear Solid 1. When the game hit Steam three days ago, players were supposed to be able to download different language packs—Japanese, US English and what-have-you—via the game's launcher. Unfortunately, the relevant Steam pages were inexplicably AWOL, making international versions of the game inaccessible.

The Top Racer series was something of a hidden gem in the 16-bit and 64-bit days when it was known as Top Gear in North America and Top Racer internationally. It was a blend of traditional racing with an OutRun-esque visual style and killer soundtracks and served as the primary influence alongside OutRun and this franchise’s own predecessor in the Lotus Challenge series, for one of my favorite racing games ever, Horizon Chase Turbo by Aquiris. While Top Racer 1, Top Racer 2, and the future-set Top Racer 3000 are existing releases, there will also be a crossover with Aquiris titled Top Racer Crossroads. The latter doesn’t have footage shown for it, but does appear to be a blend of Top Racer content in the more modern-day Horizon Chase art style. Top Racer used things like comic book-style speech bubbles and those will be featured in Crossroads, which could wind up being the real hidden gem in this whole collection.

In what may be a land speed record for highlighting the inadequacy of a PC port, modder Serge has published a small tool for the new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection ports that enables them to run at 4K or other resolutions. Despite Konami's confusing claims over the last few months, players learned today that the emulated HD remasters of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 both render at 720p on PC, which makes for a particularly blurry picture on higher resolution 1440p or 4K monitors. This mod, which was released approximately 10 hours after the games unlocked on Steam, fixes that. It is 64.5 kilobytes.
