Konami's new Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 only launched yesterday, but already there's a mod to boost its versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 up to 4K.
Fans were left disappointed by the base game only offering 720p resolution on PC for these games — following earlier confusion in which Konami initially stated all games would «target» 1080p on all platforms other than Nintendo Switch.
In response, a fan has speedily released the MGSResolutionPatch PC mod, just hours after the game launched on Steam (thanks, PC Gamer).
The MGSResolutionPatch mod lets you choose the resolution you want for the game, such as 1080p or 4K 2160p, though it does introduce some small issues — such as UI bugs in MGS2.
And in another twist, Nintendo Switch users have been discussing the fact the game's physical version only includes some of the games on its cartridge. The rest must be downloaded, and an SD card is required.
Included on the Nintendo Switch cartridge are bonus games Metal Gear (MSX), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear (NES) and Snake's Revenue.
You'll need 25GB of space (and an additional 12.2GB for bonus videos) to download the core Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3.
Digital Foundry's John Linneman was among those who criticised the decision.
Well this is more insulting than I expected. They couldn't even be bothered to include the games on the cart? I'd be willing to bet even the subpar Vita ports of 2 and 3 are better option lol. https://t.co/u0vvzdrwwF
Konami is planning to patch the MGS Collection post-launch to address technical issues in some cutscenes, the publisher said yesterday.
Further references to a second collection of games have also been spotted by fans, which is expected to include MGS4, MGS5 and MGS Peace Walker.
Have you bought the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1? How are you finding it?

Eight years after Metal Gear Solid 5, the actor behind bikini-clad sniper assassin Quiet has spoken about the role and working with Kojima in a new interview with IGN. Actor Stefanie Joosten called making Metal Gear Solid 5 «an absolutely wonderful experience,» but also reflected on «the perspective of the people that are not as happy with how she was portrayed,» saying «I think the video game landscape has changed quite a lot since then.»
Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid franchise is one of the most iconic in gaming, and within it, Quiet remains one of the most controversial characters. As Stefanie Joosten prepares for the launch of her album on November 10, she sat for an interview with IGN where she reflected on playing Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
It's been nearly 10 years since the release of Hideo Kojima's final Metal Gear Solid game, MGSV: The Phantom Pain, and it's still a hot topic among fans. Along with discussions about what could have been with the game (which didn't launch with all intended features) and the circumstances surrounding the creator's exit from Konami, one topic that continues to be a lively discussion relates to the infamous character Quiet, played by Stefanie Joosten. In an interview with IGN, Joosten took some time to share her thoughts on the character in the years since the initial controversy surrounding Quiet, and how her views have changed in the years after. "It's been interesting to see the discussions about the character. Of course, I've seen them and read a lot of different perspectives on the character at the time," said Joosten. "And still, I respect the choices Kojima made and his team in designing the character. And also, of course, there's also just a choice of creating a visually appealing character. I think video games are, in a way, still a sort of fantasy world you enter, so I respect the choices regarding the Quiet appearance, for instance, being quite revealing." "But I also understand the perspective of the people that are not as happy with how she was portrayed," she continued. "This game came out in 2015, and I think the video game landscape has changed quite a lot since then. People are looking for more representation, and I really get it."
Fans were delighted to see David Hayter return to Metal Gear in a promotional video for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series (and recently released Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1).
