Yet as iconic as they were at the start of the decade, by the end of it Mario had moved onto fighting oversized spiky turtles, and DK was lining up for his own reptile-bashing platforming series, but beneath it all there was still this simmering rivalry that would be rekindled with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, a GBA classic now remade for Nintendo Switch.

There are many things to enjoy about Super Mario Bros Wonder. Actor Jack Black has joined the cast of Warner Bros and Legendary's "Minecraft", a live-action movie based on the popular video game from the studio. Black joins "Aquaman" star Jason Momoa as well as actors Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks in the project, which will be directed by Jared Hess of ”Napoleon Dynamite” fame, reported entertainment news outlet Variety.

Big-name video games released in September have sold less at launch than their predecessors across Europe, according to fresh data.

It’s been revealed that during its development, the team behind Super Mario Bros. Wonder generated over 2,000 ideas for the game, including one from its sound director that would have added a huge live-action Mario to the game who said “boing” to himself. Unfortunately, that didn’t make the cut.

Why? Because Super Mario Bros Wonder is set to arrive on the 20th, and Sonic Superstars will arrive just three days before then on the 17th. Coincidence? Some people think so.

When Nintendo announced that Game Boy Advance games would appear on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack service, I felt a tinge of excitement in my soul. Not because I love Game Boy Advance games, though that is certainly true. Rather, because I could never wrangle together the peripherals and people needed to make many of the system’s unique multiplayer experiences work. So when I saw this morning that Kirby & The Amazing Mirror would be coming to Nintendo’s subscription service next week, I couldn’t help but smile.

Princess Peach: Showtime is scheduled to release in late March 2024, marking the launch of the first game starring Princess Peach as the protagonist in almost 20 years, and there’s a lot to look forward to. Straying from the traditional location of the Mushroom Kingdom which we typically see in Mario games, this adventure with Princess Peach should be on your radar of upcoming Nintendo Switch games if it’s not already.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is scheduled to launch in October, and being the first mainline 2D side-scrolling Mario game in over a decade, there are a lot of expectations surrounding its release. 

Nintendo continues to go from strength to strength with each passing year. The Japanese video game company's most recent console, the Nintendo Switch, has become a popular choice for gamers, even though it is significantly underpowered in comparison to Sony and Microsoft's consoles. However, this hasn't stopped its sales, as it recently surpassed the sales of Nintendo's previous best-selling console in the US, the Wii. The launch of Nintendo's latest exclusive, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has given a major boost to the console's popularity.

It seems ironic that after months of fuss over Oppenheimer’s too-brief (and eventually extended) window in IMAX theaters, and the question of who was going to get to see it in “true” IMAX and who would have to settle for various forms of “LieMAX,” the other half of the Barbenheimer pairing is now sliding in to take over where Oppenheimer left off. Warner Bros. announced Thursday that Greta Gerwig’s Barbie will play in IMAX theaters for one week starting on Sept. 22 — now with “additional, never-before-seen post-credit footage.”

Barbie has now made $1 billion at the box office – and there's no sequel on the horizon. Neither writer-director Greta Gerwig nor her co-writer (and real-life partner) Noah Baumbach has a contract for Barbie 2, but that doesn't mean the studio hasn't tried to convince Gerwig. 

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom drove a record quarter for Nintendo Switch, with the company confirming it sold 18.51 million units of the game as of June 30, 2023.
