The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for January, and it seems like it was a pretty solid month for the industry, although direct comparisons are difficult because five weeks, including the first few days of February (up until February 3 to be exact) were reported on this time around. Regardless, players spent $5.1 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in January and early February. The PlayStation 5 was the #1 console as usual, with Nintendo and Microsoft battling it out for second place honors – Switch was #2 in unit sales, while Xbox Series X/S was #2 in dollar sales.
On the software front, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III continued its run at #1, and Tekken 8 was the top new game, coming in at #2. Despite being deemed a disappointment by Warner Bros, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League came in at #3, followed by Persona 3 Reload at #4 (remember, these charts include the first few days of February). Other new additions include Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth at #7 and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at #13.

The announcement of a new game added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in March seems to be taking an aim at its competitor, Xbox Game Pass. Depending on the PS Plus subscription tier, players have access to a full library of titles they can download and play, even if they do not own them properly. Each month, new games are added to the library, essentially offering more benefits. The catalog was added once Sony remodeled its subscription service.
After numerous delays, the anticipated System Shock remake launched on PC to solid reviews and enthusiastic fan response early last year, but when do console players get in on the retro cyberpunk fun? Developer Nightdive Studios have always said a console version of the new System Shock was in the works (which sets it apart from the PC-only original) but have been a bit cagey about when it might arrive.
Since launch late last year, Forza Motorsport has received a bit of a mixed reaction from fans, with one of the biggest criticisms being against the game’s grindy progression system. Every car in the game has a number of parts and systems you can tinker with, but in order to do so, you need to level up and this leveling needs to be done with every car you want to upgrade. Needless to say, this gets pretty grindy!
Xbox Game Pass is adding NBA 2K24 to its content library later today, March 11. Unlike the vast majority of titles that make their way to the service, the latest entry in the NBA 2K franchise won't be available to Xbox Game Pass users on PC.

Starfield's Premium Upgrade was originally notable for the five days of early access it granted during its release window, and while this early access period has since expired, there are still a few other goodies up for grabs in a brand-new offer. It's a new month, which means a new set of games arriving on Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service. Balatro, the hot new roguelike card game of the moment, has been pulled from several digital storefronts after its age rating was changed due to perceived gambling concerns. Every month brings a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus games like clockwork, and the service is expanding its library as always in March. As a subscription that provides access to online play on Sony systems, PS Plus is a must for many dedicated PlayStation users. For those who aren't committed to regular multiplayer, PS Plus finds its other major point of attraction in a rotating catalog of free games for subscribers that are available to download for a month and to play as long as an account that's already added them has an active subscription.
