Hogwarts Legacy has become one of the biggest games of 2023 and it's thanks in part to the recently released Nintendo Switch version.
As GameIndustry.biz's Christopher Dring reports, Avalanche Software's magical RPG is once again sitting at the top of the UK's boxed game charts. "A huge surge in sales of Hogwarts Legacy on the back of the Nintendo Switch version sees it jump back to No.1 in the UK boxed charts," Dring tweets.
Hogwarts Legacy may have only launched on Switch earlier this month, but it's also quickly become the third-biggest Switch launch of the year, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Considering the scope of both of these games, it's pretty impressive that the Warner Bros. game has managed to catch up in just a few weeks.

It's a little surprising that the Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy is performing so well, especially considering it's also available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and other platforms. Not only this, but fans had to wait an additional nine months after its initial release to play it on the Nintendo console.
As you'd expect, playing the Harry Potter game on the handheld console isn't quite the same experience as playing it on a next-gen console - as demonstrated by the first Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch screenshots, which were quickly compared to PS1 Hagrid. Thankfully, the wait seems to have been worth it for fans as many were shocked at just how good the game looked on Nintendo Switch.
The release of Hogwarts Legacy has been the subject of criticism and debate due to J.K. Rowling's public stance on gender identity, which continues to challenge the inclusivity at the heart of the Harry Potter community. Here is our explainer on the Hogwarts Legacy controversy.

One of Nintendo's marquee Black Friday offers is still available at major retailers for $100, though it's bound to sell out.
Hogwarts Legacy was one of the more popular games with fans this year. Fans waited a good while for Avalanche Software to turn this game out into the marketplace. However, the initial launch was not what fans had hoped for. Rather than being available across all the supported platforms simultaneously, it was pushed back into three different waves. We saw the game’s first wave land into the marketplace for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Meanwhile, several months later, the game managed to be released on the last generation’s Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. Then, this month, we saw Hogwarts Legacy land on the Nintendo Switch console.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a pretty awesome game, but it’s such a new (and popular) game that it has been resistant to price drops. But for Black Friday, there’s a promotion that includes a year-long family membership to Nintendo Switch Online with purchase. Not bad!

Nintendo’s flagship releases tend to have a well-earned reputation of releasing in a more polished state than most AAA titles do in today’s day and age, which means we don’t see patches for them with anywhere close to the average frequency. More than a month on from its launch, the first patch for Super Mario Bros. Wonder is now available, and it’s quite a minor one.
The Flower Kingdom adventures of have entertained fans of classic side-scrolling platforming action, but some veteran Mario aficionados were concerned that Prince Florian might have held a secret that would be bad news for the high-jumping plumber. Florian is a diminutive creature with a body similar to a Wiggler, the caterpillar-like entities introduced in. Wigglers are shown with flowers growing from their heads, which makes Florian’s design a good fit for the royalty of the Flower Kingdom. However, the Flower Kingdom appeared much earlier in an obscure chapter of Mario’s history, and that connection could have set Prince Florian up as a potential rival.
The Gfk has released (via GamesIndustry) the latest weekly physical sales data for the United Kingdom, as per which Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game in the region last week, thanks to a combination of the launch of its Nintendo Switch version and Black Friday discounts. In fact, as per GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring, the open world RPG has enjoyed the 2023’s third-biggest physical launch for a Switch title in the UK, behind only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Super Mario RPG is back with remade visuals, quality-of-life features and an orchestral soundtrack on Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s remake of the classic SNES role-playing game is out now – check out the launch trailer to see some of its signature charms.
Due to a technical situation at the charts company, we are using GfK data for physical game sales this month.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder sends Mario and pals to the Flower Kingdom, where a whole batch of threatening lifeforms are just begging to be stomped on by our heroes. While many invasive species from the Mushroom Kingdom also exist in the Flower Kingdom — like the Goomba, Koopa, Spiny, and Piranha Plant — this game is full of brand-new strange little creatures.
