Mario is an Italian plumber with no ass and legs that can run like the wind. In this year’s Super Mario Bros. Movie, he has a bumbling personality. However, in the hands of a deft player, Mario can become a lean, mean pipe-jumping machine. The most skilled players can complete Super Mario 64, a game that typically takes 12 to 20 hours to complete, in under two hours. For these players, no amount of fireballs and Thwomps will stop them from finishing the game as quickly as possible.
The level of skill brought to these runs is undeniable. In the most precise speedruns, a mere pixel or two can make or break a run. A single level, like the 5-2 level fromSuper Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, can capture an entire history of speedrunning and its innovations in its pixelated platforms. In other cases, fan-made levels in games like Super Mario Maker 2 and “Kaizo” Mario levels have pushed fans to create even more intricate levels for those looking for the ultimate challenge.
It’s a thrill and a pleasure to see beloved games played so well. Because of this, we’ve decided to round up the fastest Mario speedruns in the world, picking five of the most popular Mario games with the highest number of total runs according to Speedrun.com. Some games have different completion requirements (e.g., 120 stars, Any%), so we specify these requirements in each section.

Super Mario 64 has withstood the test of time as a classic Mario game. It has its share of bugs, but the game was ahead of its time as a 3D platformer and has the second-highest number of speedruns of any game on Speedrun.com. As such, it’s a hotly contested record. At time of publication, the record is currently held by the speedrunner Karin. It’s deliriously impressive, as Karin manages to collect all 120 stars in under two hours. In addition to seeing the sheer number of fake walls that can be clipped through, it’s an absolute joy to see the way a skillful player can chain Mario’s various jumps together to traverse levels with the grace of an Olympic ice skater.

Cappy goes so hard in this world-record-setting run of Super Mario Odyssey from Tyron18. In Super Mario Odyssey, Mario can throw his hat and transform into any object or creature it lands on. This mechanic offers some of the goofiest powers of a Mario game ever, and speedrunners put them to good use. While much of the land traversal in the game consists of lots of rolling, the skillful use of Cappy makes it easy for speedrunners to climb tall structures quickly. I particularly enjoyed seeing Tyron18 make use of the traffic delineators and other objects like them to rack up Power

With the remake of Mario’s debut RPG just a little over a week away fans are getting ever more excited with every passing ounce of information Nintendo is willing to share. This time the news doesn’t come in just a short teaser trailer, but we’ve finally gotten a great look at the official overview trailer in English to tide us over while we wait. We get a great taste at things we’ve seen before such as the playable cast of characters all the way from Mallow to Peach and a great look at more of the available skills at their disposal as well. The trailer also specifies how the new style of timed hits work as there are two key styles to knock it out of the park. The first is a timed hit that does additional damage to an enemy, while a perfectly timed hit will manage to do splash damage to every enemy in battle. This is a great incentive to get players trying to master their skills at timing attacks and blocks for both avoiding and dishing out damage best they can! The trailer also highlights the new Breezy mode which makes fights and leveling up easier in addition to a brand new monster list that will detail all their strengths and weaknesses for maximum planning skills for Mario and friends!

Super Mario Bros Wonder is the fastest-selling Mario game in history.

Before releases, there are several ways you can learn to earn XP the fastest based on the open beta held prior to the game's official launch. Those looking to level up fast will want to know a few tricks that let them soar through early stages. Some of the best gear, cosmetics, and other items available will undoubtedly be tied to how much experience you manage to obtain in different modes.
Mario has been teaching kids important life lessons for generations. Think about how Mario showed you that persistence is key, munching mushrooms is good for you, and stealing is a-ok. Well, that spirit will live on in the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake, it turns out, in the revival of one of the dirtiest jokes in the game's history.
You probably don't need me to tell you that Super Mario RPG is good. It's one of the best SNES games ever made, and while it never got the direct sequel it deserved, it did lay the foundations for series like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi to continue offering colorfully charming takes on the RPG formula in the Mushroom Kingdom for decades to come. That's why, after an early look at the upcoming Switch remake, I don't really want to talk about the game in general terms - I want to show you just how well it compares against that original classic.
When I started my playthrough of Super Mario Bros. Wonder as Nabbit, I didn’t know what I was getting into. I picked him purely on vibes. He reminded me of Ravio from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and he seemed like an unlikely hero for the new game. He isn’t a model hero like Mario; he looks like a pesky little thief. I liked that about him — that is, until I realized he cheated me out of the traditional Mario experience.
One great feature of the Nintendo Switch has been the increasing back catalog of excellent Nintendo games available on the system, and the newest additions complete the collection of the truly standout games. The series has long stood out from most party games thanks to both its frantic fun and a little help from its famous mascot, receiving 10 numbered entries and multiple games that opt for subtitles instead. Although some fun can be had with every entry, a select few stand out as the best of the bunch even years after their release.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder has done very well since launching last week on Nintendo Switch, debuting second in physical sales charts for the United Kingdom. It’s also performed exceptionally throughout Europe, becoming the fastest-selling Mario game ever in the continent in its first three days on sale.
