The first important choice to make in is whether to kill or spare the bandit chief, Gonzo. The game is full of consequential decisions which can radically affect the overall journey, but not as much the final outcome. Bonds are a fundamental mechanic in, but some players meet the sharp end of a katana before ever developing a relationship with the main character.

The most recent games from the long-running Like a Dragon franchise, including Infinite Wealth, are discounted on Steam for a week. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was released back in January to critical acclaim. Many fans praise it as one of the franchise's best entries, with its incredible writing and characters, new setting of Hawaii, and updated turn-based combat system. It's also the largest game in the franchise by far, as Infinite Wealth is jam-packed with tons of side activities across multiple different locations.

As one of PlayStation's biggest exclusives of the year thus far, the anticipation for was immense, and the game has mostly lived up to high expectations. From the developer Team Ninja, the game brings familiar elements with parallels to other samurai games from the last several years.

The expanded open world of Rise of the Ronin is so big that not even a trusty horse and fast travel systemare quite enough to make traversal as fun and fast as needed. While it might seem a little fantastical, you won’t complain about the inclusion of a glider once you get your hands on it and feel how freeing it is to soar above the rooftops and countryside. This has been a heavily marketed mechanic, and yet you can miss your first chance to get it if you don’t explore a little before moving on with the main quest. For Team Ninja veterans and newcomers alike, Rise of the Ronin offers a deep and satisfying combat system, set to the backdrop of the Bakumatsu era of Japan. With the game now less than a day away, I spoke to Rise of the Ronin’s Producer, Yosuke Hayashi, and Game Producer and Director, Fumihiko Yasuda, who offered their tips for players joining the Veiled Edge tomorrow.

With development starting way back in 2015, Team Ninja’s action RPG Rise of the Ronin is finally slated to hit the PlayStation 5 on March 22. Just over a week from launch, a new one-minute trailer has been released, blending live-action sequences with the title’s impressive animation.

The best weapons in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth can be equipped to main character Ichiban Kasuga — this set of golden bats boost your stats and deal crushing status effects on enemies. They’re the perfect tools you’ll need for the final fight against Jo Amon, one of two super-bosses you’ll find in the postgame. Ichiban’s best weapons are both baseball bats, so you can only equip them if you’re running with his standard job. But, you’ll need some of the rarest crafting materials in the game to build these weapons. Team Ninja has unveiled new details for Rise of the Ronin, including a character creator and up to 4-player online cooperative gameplay. The developer also provided insight into the Rise of the Ronin mechanics, character interactions, and combat, all within a recent behind-the-scenes video.

There’s no shortage of reasons to be excited about Rise of the Ronin, but the fact that it’s going to be developer Team Ninja’s first stab at an open world experience has to be high on that list. Set during the disastrous final days of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Rise of the Ronin will take players to Bakamatsu-era Japan and arm them with an arsenal of early-modern weaponry. We got a new trailer and an accompanying PlayStation Blog write-up, shedding further light on the game's depiction of this pivotal moment in Japan's history.

Team NINJA, one of the most acclaimed action game studios thanks to its portfolio of franchises like Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, Dead or Alive, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (not to mention the spinoff Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin), is readying its release of Rise of the Ronin.

The Like A Dragon series has never been afraid to make cute little nods to certain characters and side quests that have appeared in previous games, with minigames such as Like A Dragon Gaiden's colosseum fights usually crammed with references to several past titles. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is no exception, which gives us a cameo from a couple of characters those of you who have played the Judgment spinoff series will be very familiar with.

Gaming has had its fair share of moments when a new title would ostensibly be released at just the right time. The most recent example is Animal Crossing: New Horizons dropping in 2020 when the world needed a means to safely connect during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. And in 2024, for me — and maybe a lot of gamers out there — another of these games could be Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a dramatic RPG that depicts the series’ most compelling tale to date. Two beloved characters take the spotlight as dual protagonists in this adventure—Ichiban Kasuga, a man who rises from rock bottom once again, and Kazuma Kiryu, who faces one final battle as he enters his twilight years.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is here, and like its predecessor Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the game opts for a turn-based RPG combat system rather than the brawling battles of old. While Infinite Wealth’s combat sticks to the same fundamentals as its predecessor, it also introduces quite a lengthy list of changes. To the point even Like a Dragon veterans will have to readjust their strategies somewhat. Don’t worry though, we’ll got some tips that will get you up to speed and cracking heads quickly…

By the time I saw the credits on Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, I felt like I had been through the emotional ringer. I was mentally exhausted. I think that's by design. Infinite Wealth is developer Ryu Ga Gotoku's (RGG) most ambitious project by a long shot – an epic tale told across multiple characters and continents, featuring the conclusion of some nearly 20-year-old plot threads that leave at least one character, quite literally and relatably, asleep in the streets. Some of this is the best work the developer has ever done, a new watermark for the series going forward. And some of it is some of the studio's worst. Like everything in Infinite Wealth, it's complicated.  

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has reportedly fired four employees in the aftermath of a major controversy surrounding the museum'sPokemon exhibition from last Fall. The worldwide popularity of Nintendo's iconic monster-catching franchise has seen the series honored in a variety of different manners since the games' 1996 debut. The series has regularly featured both digital and in-person exhibitions sharing the art and history of the franchise, including last year's «Pokemon Colors» exhibit in Yokohama. However, one of the most recent exhibitions has plenty of controversy attached.

There’s a new way to travel in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. While you can still pay taxis to get around Hawaii faster, you can also use a Segway-like device called the Street Surfer. This battery-powered standing travel device lets you zip around the streets, and you can mount it at any time. There’s just one downside. The battery life is limited and gets used up, so you’ll need to recharge at stations located all over the city. Using the Street Surfer is very simple and it can be summoned (or put away) at any time. You can even purchase higher capacity batteries from Hawaii Pawn Shops. The Street Surfer isn’t just limited to Hawaii either, you can use it when you travel back to Yokohama.

Jobs are back in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth and they’re even more ridiculous. Instead of dressing up like Hosts and Idols your party can become fire dancers, hula girls or gun-wielding desperados. Some of the jobs are truly ridiculous, including a surfer that swings his board around like a club.

Just a couple of days before the release of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, publisher Sega has released the game’s opening movie as a trailer. The trailer, which you can check out below, essentially acts as an opening credits sequence for the game.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s PC version will feature support for Nvidia’s DLSS 3 at launch, Nvidia announced as part of its recent CES 2024 presentation (where it also confirmed DLSS 3 support for Dragon’s Dogma 2 andHorizon Forbidden West). Nvidia says it will be showcasing just what sort of improvements you can expect from the game with DLSS 3 enabled “soon”.

If Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is going to be your entry point into the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza), first of all, welcome. You’ll probably have a good time. However, I implore you to consider playing its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, before moving on to the newer release. While you could certainly still enjoy Infinite Wealth without playing Like a Dragon, it lays the groundwork to get the most out of the latest entry in one of gaming’s most entertaining franchises, introducing you to delightful characters and a bizarre world where you’ll be asked to save people stranded without toilet paper in public restrooms and fight a tiger with your bare hands. And it’s also on Game Pass, which never hurts.

Kiryu Kazuma and Kasuga Ichiban are two sides of the same Like a Dragon coin. Their personalities could not be more different — Kiryu, a world-weary lone wolf, and Kasuga, a Dragon Quest-loving golden retriever — but they live by a similar code of ethics and share a similar past, both locked up for crimes they didn't commit to help out their yakuza families. It was a bummer that Kiryu didn't stick around longer when he came around in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The two men would sure as hell have a lot to talk about.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s titles tend to be quite long, not counting Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the team’s next mainline title, is no exception, with Honolulu City over three times bigger than Yokohama from Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The official website for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, RGG Studio’s next mainline entry for the franchise, has been updated with new details. It discusses the Dungeons that players will venture to, both in Hawaii and Yokohama, which serve as “the strongholds of various ruffians” (translation via DeepL).

The release of Team Ninja’s upcoming action role-playing game, Rise of the Rōnin, is getting closer and closer, and it’s now been revealed what major Japanese locations players will be able to explore in it. 

The first quarter of 2024 kicks off in style, with titles like Koei Tecmo’s Rise of the Ronin for PS5. Developed by Team Ninja of Nioh fame, it’s the studio’s most ambitious project to date, and thanks to a new preview by Game Informer, we get a better idea of its scale.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's roster of minigames sound just as whacky as I'd hoped.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has shared some new details on Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, specifically the minigames that players can indulge in. It already showcased Crazy Delivery and Dondoko Island, but there’s also Miss Match, an app that protagonist Ichiban Kasuga can use for matchmaking.

While Sega’s other properties, like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio and Shinobi, were the bigger deal at The Game Awards, RGG Studio’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth received a new trailer. It focuses on side story content for Kazuma Kiryu, the long-running protagonist of the series and deuteragonist of the sequel. Check it out below.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is looking to start  2024 with a bang in January, and not only because the developers say it's so freaking long. As Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio had already announced, it's also packing in performances by Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-0) and Danny Trejo (Machete, Desperado) for the English version's voice over. During today's PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted, RGG brought out a new English language trailer with a first look at Kim and Trejo's roles.

It’s set in Honolulu City, Hawaii, and a new tweet says the location is over three times bigger than Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama. While it sounds absurd, it does explain the eighth title being the series’ longest yet.

Microsoft has shown off a first look at Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's new island activity in a new trailer unveiled during the Xbox Partner Preview broadcast.

Like a Dragon Gaiden is set to launch on Microsoft’s Xbox and PC Game Pass, and it will be joined on the subscription service by 2023’s other game in the series formerly known as Yakuza, Like a Dragon Ishin. The pair of games from RGG Studio are set to arrive on the Microsoft subscription service, meaning you’ll be able to play Kiryu Kazuma’s new adventure on day one as part of its library.

During Xbox’s Digital Broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio head Masayoshi Yokohama announced that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name would be available on day one for Game Pass for Xbox and PC subscribers.

I had assumed that the Like a Dragon formula could only thrive in the Japanese settings inspired by Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, but after having a 20-minute hands-on with the game at Tokyo Game Show I can confidently say that the series’ signature streetfighting and silliness has stayed strong in its switch to a sun-kissed Hawaiian island without missing a beat - or indeed a beatdown.

It’s been confirmed that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will be releasing on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4 on January 26, 2024, less than three months after Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Kazuma Kiryu may have faked his death and quietly walked away from a life of street brawls, tense hostage situations, and mini-games galore at the end of Yakuza 6. But an iconic character like that will never be shelved for too long. With the Yakuza series retitled to more closely match the Japanese translation, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name has roped in Kiryu for one last simple job. And we all know how well “one last simple jobs” tend to go. Even though it was a bit disappointing that my playthrough strayed away from details of the main story arc, what I did see strongly justified bringing our boy out of retirement for another go-around.
