Fresh off the first behind-the-scenes episode for Rise of the Ronin, Team Ninja also shared new details on the game’s three big cities – Yokohama, Kyoto and Edo – on the PlayStation Blog.
Yokohama is the first big city one visits. Along with Tokaido Road and its various inn-towns on the outskirts, there’s Yamashita to the southeast, which serves as the lower town to the upper Yamate. “In accordance with provisions set out in the US-Japan trade treaty, it is the site of the Foreign Settlement, where soldiers from various nations are stationed.”
Motomachi is also in the southeast and is where Chinatown resides. Players can find “various trinkets for sale and unique architecture characteristic of Chinese cultures, such as the grand Kanteibyo Temple, a colorful temple dedicated to the ancient Chinese hero, Guan Yu.”
As for Edo, which serves as the Edo Shogunate’s base, there’s the Kojimachi district of samurai protecting the castle. Asakusa features the likes of Sensoji Temple and Azuma Bridge, and it’s a significant den of activity. Nihonbashi, is one of the more famous sights, with five major roads starting from this point.
Finally, there’s Kyoto, where the Gosho district holds the emperor’s palace and aristocratic manors. Mibu is south of Nijo Castle, and players can discover Mibu Temple and Mibudera Temple, the latter used for training the Shinsengumi.
Rise of the Ronin launches on March 22nd for PS5. Check out some gameplay from the latest overview trailer, and stay tuned for more details.

Team Ninja has released a new behind the scenes video, with developers talking about the combat of upcoming game Rise of the Ronin. The 10-minute-long video goes into a fair bit of depth, with various developers from the studio talking about the combat in Rise of the Ronin. Check it out below.
Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Team NINJA have released the second developer diary for open-world action adventure game Rise of the Ronin, titled “The Fight.”
Team NINJA is back today with another Rise of the Ronin Behind The Scenes (BTS) video. The Japanese developer said the action system featured in their open world game is the culmination of their previous titles, which include the likes of Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, to name a few.
Since the mid-90s, the developers at Team Ninja have earned consistent praise for their precise, satisfying combat. Look no further than the Dead or Alive franchise’s dynamic fighting system or Ninja Gaiden’s lightning-fast combat for prime examples. The developer aims to continue and expand that legacy of satisfying melee mechanics in Rise of the Ronin.
There’s no shortage of reasons to be excited about Rise of the Ronin, but the fact that it’s going to be developer Team Ninja’s first stab at an open world experience has to be high on that list. What’s been shown of the action RPG so far has painted its open world in a very promising light, and Sony has now released another new trailer that continues to do so.
Team Ninja is known for its action-packed titles filled with intense gameplay and lots of enemies to fight. Their next significant title is Rise of the Ronin, a game with a more historical approach narrative-wise. You’ll be set in a key part of Japan’s history, where internal struggles and external influences threaten to rip the land apart. You will play a Ronin, a Samurai without a master, who must travel the land and influence it in his own way to steer the nation to where you feel is best. Today, a special video highlighted their take on Japan and the beauty that lies within it.
Yesterday, we brought you word of a brewing controversy surrounding the upcoming PS5 action game Rise of the Ronin after director Fumuhiko Yasuda made some comments alluding to a controversial 19th-century Japanese philosopher. It was supposed that these comments were why Sony confirmed the game would not be released in Korea, but now Sony says it never planned on selling the game in one of the world's most lucrative markets in the first place.
If, like ourselves, you're only passingly familiar with the complex, extremely fraught history between Japan and Korea, you might have missed the significance of specific comments made by Rise of the Ronin director Fumuhiko Yasuda in a behind-the-scenes trailer released last week. We certainly did, despite reporting on the thing, and so were surprised to learn that Sony has since cancelled the upcoming title's Korean release.
Team Ninja, the developers behind Nioh and Ninja Gaiden, have released the first episode in a behind-the-scenes video series focused on the game development of its forthcoming open-world action RPG, Rise of the Ronin.
Sony has now made a new statement about Rise of the Ronin’s Korean release.
Due to a comment made by director Fumuhiko Yasuda, all physical and digital releases of Rise of the Ronin have been canceled in South Korea. The upcoming Japanese action RPG has been drumming up excitement among fans, but players in Korea will no longer be able to look forward to the game's launch.
