As an open world action-adventure game with a period Japanese setting, Rise of the Ronin has drawn a lot of comparisons with Ghost of Tsushima, and the more that we’ve seen of the upcoming Team Ninja game, the more prominent the similarities between the two games have become. It’s no surprise, then, that Sucker Punch’s 2020 samurai epic served as very direct inspiration for the Rise of the Ronin development team.

Team Ninja is prepping for the launch of Rise of the Ronin, but its current titles continue to set new milestones. It’s announced that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, an action RPG set during the Han Dynasty’s fall, has crossed five million players worldwide.

The first quarter of 2024 kicks off in style, with titles like Koei Tecmo’s Rise of the Ronin for PS5. Developed by Team Ninja of Nioh fame, it’s the studio’s most ambitious project to date, and thanks to a new preview by Game Informer, we get a better idea of its scale.

Rise of the Ronin is easily Team Ninja’s biggest game, with a massive open world to explore. Set in Japan during the Bakumatsu, players encounter historical figures like Sakamoto Ryoma and Yoshida Shoin, but your decisions influence the narrative direction.

Pre-orders for Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin are now available digitally on the PlayStation Store and physically on PlayStation Direct and various retailers. The Standard Edition retails for $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Kou Shibusawa have delayed Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake from its previously planned early 2024 release window to general 2024. It will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam.

Team Ninja’sRise of the Ronin launches on March 22nd, 2024, with pre-orders going live on December 14th at 7 AM PDT. The core premise of manga-turned-anime series Attack on Titan has always been fantastic: humans armed with swords and equipped with mechanical grapple guns that basically turn them into Spider-Man take on enormous naked giants who are trying to eat them. With the series’ action built around the incredible manoeuvrability and momentum of the Omni-Directional Mobility gear, the genuine unnerving threat of the titans, and the relatively fragility of its human heroes, it’s just primed to be mined for video game inspiration.

Initially announced for Japan, Koei Tecmo’s Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator is launching in 2024 for iOS, Android and PC via Steam. Developed by Akatsuki Games, it’s a free-to-play RPG with gacha elements. Check out the cinematic trailer below.

Jumping into a spin-off of the Fate franchise without prior knowledge is daunting, considering how it’s spread over so many games and media projects. Fate/Samurai Remnant acts as a great introduction to the franchise while being an awesome action RPG in its own right, one that juggles lots of different systems without ever feeling overwhelming while keeping its main combat system satisfying, especially for anime fans (and if you’ve picked this up, chances are you are.)

On the heels of what many regard as the best and most approachable games in the 26-year-old Atelier JRPG series, publisher Koei Tecmo has announced the free gacha game that a lot of Atelier fans apparently weren't asking for in a near-perfect recreation of that notorious Diablo Immortal reveal.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty fans have much to look forward to this year with updates and new content, including a Nioh collaboration. However, those on PC are still facing issues, as evidenced by the “Mixed” rating on Steam, with only 46 percent of user reviews being positive.
