Developer Inflexion Games has released a new video for its open-world survival crafting title Nightingale, detailing its plans for the future of the game. In the video, studio CEO Aaryn Flynn has said that the studio is not happy with the current state of the game. Check out the developer update video below.

Nightingalehas received a new update focused on crafting improvements, new content, and various bug fixes across all areas of the game. The second major update to the open world survival game is aimed at new players, as well as experienced Faewild veterans of Nightingale.

Update 0.1.3 brings multiple bug fixes to Nightingale, but the biggest change is dying will no longer create a death chest. The mechanic has been utilized throughout a number of survival games, but the player community found it tedious, and sometimes impossible, to collect the dropped items after reviving. Looking to set Nightingale apart from others in the genre, a new mechanic has taken the place of death chests.

Inflexion Games, developer of Victorian fantasy survival crafting game Nightingale, has admitted there are several aspects of the game it's currently «not happy with», following disappointing player numbers at the game's recent launch.

Having played Nightingale a bunch for early access review, I wasn't entirely convinced by its mixture of survival and Destiny-esque power level grind. I also wasn't too keen on its slew of bugs and tricksy interface. Still, the devs are hard at work fixing things, as the latest patch squashes major crashes, material losses when building, and further improves the UI.

The survival crafting MMO entered Early Access almost three weeks ago, and the team has mentioned a few things they’re working on, but this is our clearest roadmap so far.

T1 Essence is the second tier of 's currency system, which features four different tiers of money you can farm and use throughout your adventures. Determined by rarity, any form of Essence you discover can be exchanged for new items, upgrades, and more. When Inflexion Games announced Nightingale in 2021, I was mildly interested in what I saw. I genuinely like survival games, having dabbled in Valheim and V Rising quite a bit. But what drew me towards this particular game was its setting. 

The score given to your gear in showcases your character's total strength based on the equipment you've collected during various adventures. Also known as your Character Equipment Rating, this mechanic can be considered your overall level. New activities and challenges in different Realms with a high difficulty level are easier to approach once you have increased your gear score.

Surviving in demands quick mastery of its system, and grasping these secret mechanics early will help players make the most of their time in this must-play gaslamp fantasy. However, with so much to do, it can be easy to miss important information hidden beneath the game’s Victorian rouge. The sooner players can discern the information available to them, the sooner they’ll be able to avoid unnecessary frustration, optimize their resources, and overcome the game’s many challenges.

Sometimes I wonder whether every genre fantasy RPG or RPG-inflected game is essentially a journey towards the Big City. Most such games start you off on the periphery of the world, out in the sleepy and/or brutish hamlets of FirstActShire, Chosen One County, and send you on a loose quest towards the cosmopolitan centre, where you'll typically learn about the ultimate villain of the piece, gain access to the juiciest concentration of shops, crafting facilities and quest-givers, and glean some hint at the location of the endgame dungeon. Sometimes the quest takes days of playtime, as in Baldur's Gate 3. Sometimes it takes less than an hour, as in the original Destiny. It's a common-enough device that when an RPG starts you off in the Big City, like Dragon Age 2, or creatively "provincialises" the Big City, like Roadwarden, I feel slightly unnerved.

Realm Cards in offer a lot of interesting ways to spice up the game, and the most memorable ones tend to do so in ways that are truly inventive or transformative. Although some Realm Cards determine basic attributes of a generated realm like its biome, others have more unusual effects. Minor Realm Cards are where the system tends to shine, making it possible to break the laws of nature or randomize unique attributes to keep exploration fresh even after plenty of gameplay experience.

's fantasy world may not seem like it has modern weapons, but you can get a gun and other firearms if you obtain certain blueprints. The various Realms you can visit with your character introduce new quests that offer item schematics from unique worlds. Crafting the right Card will give you a chance to visit a land whose people can teach you how to create a gun of your own.

Inflexion Games’ long-awaited Nightingale launched last week for PC via Steam Early Access. Unfortunately, it’s faced several server issues, whether it disconnects while entering the game or when traveling between realms.

Before founding Inflexion in 2021, Aaryn Flynn worked at BioWare. He's got credits on some of the studio's best-loved games, from Baldur's Gate 2 through Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic to Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy. He was BioWare's general manager for several years, but left the company in 2017 following the release of the less-regarded Mass Effect: Andromeda. New survival sim Nightingale is his first early access project, and it's certainly been a learning experience, with Flynn obliged to rethink many of the things he learned about gamedev during his BioWare days. Minor cards are played within worlds to mess with their workings. You can lower the gravity for optimal umbrella gliding conditions, alter the weather or summon a Blood Moon (sorry, Zelda) that reduces your max health.
