Update: Well, here’s a weird one – apparently this update accidentally gave players access to Spider-Man 2’s developer debug mode. MudRunner and SnowRunner may share the word we apply to humans and animals moving as quickly as they physically can but, rest assured, nothing about this series is rapid. That is, if you do find yourself moving particularly fast in these excellent, deliberately slow-paced, sandbox-style off-road driving simulators, there’s a strong chance it’s only because you’re tumbling down a mountainside.

Despite being a sequel to a successful game, Helldivers 2 is entirely different. The original, a top-down shooter, delivered an action-packed challenge for squads battling alienoid bugs. Switching up the approach for the sequel, Helldivers 2 is a third-person shooter. However, it doesn’t stray from the pace of the original, delivering insane levels of action from the get-go.

With all of the gory appeal of a cheesy horror movie, The Outlast Trials works even better than it did when I played it in Early Access last year. There’s just something magical about hiding with your besties in wardrobes and under beds as a deeply rude lady with a power drill for a hand hunts you down. What better way to spend a Friday night with the lads? Each of its death games is unique and filled with devilish and gruesome horrors, including formidable killers with cunning and lethal AI, and upgrading your character’s abilities and gadgets is a fantastic reward for surviving all those bloody corridors. Its biggest weakness is that there just aren’t that many levels to play, which isn’t a great feeling when matches are supposed to be all about striking fear into you and your BFFs. Still, my crew and I had a lot of fun with The Outlast Trials, even if that novelty bled out quicker than we would have liked.

Modiphius Entertainment, the studio behind science-fiction-inspired tabletop games such as Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, Fallout: Factions, and the Homeworld TTRPG has leveled up. Its next offering is a cooperative, story-driven board game titled Mass Effect the Board Game — Priority: Hagalaz. Better still is the fact that it’s been built by acclaimed designer Eric Lang (Blood Rage, Life in Reterra) and Calvin Wong Tze Loon 黃子倫 (Crazy Rich Asians).

With 7 years passed since the last game was released, us Mass Effect fans have spent many an N7 day holding out for another opportunity to return to its sci-fi world. That time has finally come, but maybe not in the format you'd expect. That's right, there's a Mass Effect board game in the works. What's even better is it's coming from Modiphius, a studio with a history of creating some of the best board games that also happen to be adaptations of beloved action RPGs. Taking a look at Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms or their work on the Fallout franchise should give you a good idea of what quality we can expect. Mass Effect the Board Game - Priority: Hagalaz will be a story-focused cooperative experience for 1-4 players. It's designed by Eric M. Lang and Calvin Wong Tze Loon and will be set "during the events of Mass Effect 3." Modiphius has already given some insight into the game's story: "It is the year 2186, and the Reapers have invaded the galaxy. Because the Council ignored Commander Shepard’s warnings, the Citadel Races are overwhelmed and on the verge of losing the war. Aboard the Normandy, Shepard carries out missions to prepare the Crucible, an ancient alien superweapon, for a last-chance attempt to defeat the Reapers." Like the original games, you'll have the freedom to shape your crew's story each time you play: "Card-driven AI and evolving stories respond to your actions – your early choices influence later missions." Hopefully, this'll make for some fun Paragon/Renegade roleplaying.

SpaceX rocket was successfully launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, along Florida's Atlantic coast today and it is heading to the International Space Station. The spacecraft consists of a capsule called Endeavour which is carrying four astronauts in a 16-hour flight to the ISS. Now that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is out in the world, it's only natural to wonder how many chapters it has. Or you might prefer to call them missions or levels.

In Final Fantasy 7: Remake, Cloud was usually alone or with just one or two other companions at a time. Aside from a few instances, mainly combat trails and VR missions, you never had to worry much about party management during the story. In Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, your crew starts out at five and only grows from there.

To some it was a highlight of the game, a revelation in the story. To others it was an overlong interactive cutscene, time wasted when we could be levelling up.

Helldivers 2 doesn't follow a traditional mission structure. You're not going from level to level of increasing intensity until you reach the end, you're fighting alongside the community to liberate planets across a vast galaxy in an ongoing war dictated by a dungeon master.

Some of the coolest bits in the Terminator series, and definitely the source of its best video games, are the future war parts. Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance is an RTS that tries to follow in those robotic footsteps, spinning off of the most recent movie to put you in the boots of a military officer facing down the killer machines in the months after the nukes fall. Unfortunately, trying to combine that future war fantasy with a gritty real-time tactics formula falls short here, largely because the way your units fight and the campaign built around them feel like they were designed for two entirely different games.

Helldivers, we have yet another problem. Despite their best efforts, some Helldivers 2 recruits – and I'm not just talking about new cadets, who get the benefit of the doubt – are really struggling with the escort missions currently dominating the Automaton warfront. I get it, they're hard. Arguably too hard on occasion, the occasion being, almost every single one on any remotely high difficulty. But the bugs and bots ain't going anywhere and neither are escort missions, so we're gonna have to get through this together. Luckily, the community's been hard at work sharing helpful tips for escorting civilians while keeping their insides inside at least 25% of the time. 

Though Helldivers 2 has been a hit, its launch has been anything but smooth. Various bugs, glitches, and server issues forced Arrowhead Games to temporarily cap the possible number of concurrent players.
