Expeditions: A MudRunner Game Review

The yellow rubber duckies that were your bathtime play pals have now come to life with Chuck The Duck In: Crossy Seas. It’s a new casual indie game that’s a mixture of roguelike adventure and city-building. Dropped on Android recently, it’s free to play.

I toyed around with the idea of whether or not Garden Geckos, a game that is yet to be available to the masses, should get a review or a preview. The game was sent over by a fellow Ontarian who created and is publishing the title, and this review is for their upcoming Kickstarter campaign which is set to launch soon! This one from Tin Robot Games is shaping up to be a phenomenal light weight addition to your library. While I wonder how much traction it will get in the hardcore board game space, I cannot think of many better games to introduce to board game novices. Let’s take a look!

If I could, I would spend hours in the world of Hyper Light Breaker doing nothing in particular. I’d settle my character on the edge of a bright pastel cliff and gaze into the distance, where crumbling skyscrapers and strange rock formations silhouette against a neon sky. I’d let the soothing electronic soundtrack wash over me and observe the way the day/night cycle changed the Shadow of the Colossus-sized broadsword protruding from the earth in the distance. Maybe I’d see if a friend wanted to chat with this ‘80s sci-fi novel cover as a backdrop, before hopping on a hoverboard and skating off into that whimsical, colorful horizon to see what’s beyond.

A new leak for Honkai: Star Rail has revealed gameplay footage of the upcoming five-star characters, Acheron and Aventurine, who are expected to join the roster in update 2.1. Developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment have announced that Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. While the game has been out for a few days for those that bought the game’s Supreme Edition or Year 1 Edition, it is now available for standard edition players as well.

If you've ever looked at a stretch of abandoned road, overcome with mud and muck, and wondered whether your little two-door compact could make it through, MudRunner might be a series you already know. From Spintires to SnowRunner, it's a lovely little franchise that seems to be surviving capably, and its latest is Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, which takes the series in an altogether more scientific direction. Now, your vehicle rescues and arduous mountain climbs have a more intellectual mission briefing before them — but the core gameplay hasn't changed too much.

MudRunner and SnowRunner may share the word we apply to humans and animals moving as quickly as they physically can but, rest assured, nothing about this series is rapid. That is, if you do find yourself moving particularly fast in these excellent, deliberately slow-paced, sandbox-style off-road driving simulators, there’s a strong chance it’s only because you’re tumbling down a mountainside.

Saber Interactive has been in the news for reportedly leaving Embracer Group and going independent in a $500 million deal, but the company does have a game launching imminently as well in the form of Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. In fact, for many, the off-road driving sim has gone live now.
