At today’s Metropolis All-Stars panel at New York Comic Con 2023, DC Comics revealed a different future for the Man of Steel than many fans might have expected. Writer Jason Aaron, late off of a five-year stint on Avengers and a blockbuster Thor run, will take on the first superhero of them all for the first time, when he takes the reins of Superman’s flagship title.

So this weekend Games Workshop is throwing us a bone (likely part of a skull) and reprinting the original rules for 40K, first released in 1987. The print-on-demand run of new old books begins Oct. 14 and runs through Oct. 23, according to a news release.

Throughout 2022, we were inundated with endless rumours about the mythical Nintendo Switch Pro. It was slated to be a big improvement over the original Nintendo Switch and its OLED upgrade a few years later. However, with the release of the Steam Deck and the imminent release of many other handheld entries into the market, the development work on the Switch Pro was abruptly ended. The reason was simple enough in that it couldn’t match the hardware specifications and performances of the competition, most notably that of 4K gaming. With the Pro firmly put to bed in January this year, rumours quickly began to surface of the revival of the next major Nintendo release – the Nintendo Switch 2.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise has come a long way in 16 years, as the video games evolved from stealth-based action adventures to the more RPG-based fare as seen in 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Evolution is a crucial part of any creative process, and change is necessary, but it’s still essential to stay true to what something is at its core, which is exactly what Assassin’s Creed Mirage does. This isn’t a soft reboot, though, as it slides right into canon, centring on Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character introduced in Valhalla.

Lies of P caught my eye due to its Bloodborne-esque aesthetic and Pinnochio-inspired story. Nothing hits hard quite like a dark fairy tale, twisted from the whimsical into the wicked. Neowiz Games produced just that with Lies of P, taking a tale as old as time to create a unique soulslike experience that places you in Pinnochio’s shoes as the boy struggles to take on mechanical monstrosities. Now that the game has been out and about for a short while, many of us have completed its story and are looking forward to DLC. Thankfully, it looks like we’re getting it.

It seems Lies of P's chilling take on the tale of Pinocchio isn't finished yet. A Neowiz job listing discovered by Okami Games has revealed that DLC «is planned for production.»

As the month dedicated to ghouls and goblins and human slashers, October might not be the best month to release a Wild West revenge tale featuring anthropomorphic coyote warriors. But, hear me out. Laika: Aged Through Blood is a self-described “motorvania” where our “mother coyote reloads her guns doing backflips” on a sick motorcycle. Now that’s something I’d play whatever the weather.

If there’s anything unattended Sims are good at, it’s catching things on fire. This is especially true when you let your Sims with low cooking skills anywhere near the kitchen, where they’ve been known to turn even the simplest of recipes into a full-blown emergency situation.

The tale of Telltale Games is much more than just a game studio that fell on hard times and had to rebuild itself. It’s a tale of a company that, at one point, had some of the most unique narrative-driven titles in the world and yet also had one of the most abusive in-house cultures in the world. Back in 2018, they had such an oppressive regime going on that they basically shut down the entire studio in a single day without taking care of any of the workers who had slaved away on their titles. They were rebuilt and seemed to be coming back strong, and now, it seems to be happening again.

Baten Kaitos kicks off, as any good story does, with a desire for revenge. The main character, Kalas, is on an altogether too angry quest to kill those that killed his family. Where the complication comes in is when he bumps into the magic-user Xelha, who is on the run from the Empire after hearing their plot to resurrect and ancient evil – so far, so JRPG. Thus begins your trek across the known world, culling monsters and saving cities, all from the viewpoint as a benevolent Guardian Spirit.

While Lies of P might be a far cry from the wholesome tale of the puppet Pinocchio that you know, this grimdark soulslike has more than a few sly references to the classic fairytale up its sleeves. Some easter eggs are more obvious — the cricket-like Gemini or azure-haired Sophia, for example — but what do you really think of when you think of Pinocchio?

As a long-time League of Legends fan, I’ve followed the game’s esports scene for years.
