After a busy end to 2023, players can enjoy a slightly quieter month in January 2024. Players in the Northern Hemisphere will find their islands still in the depths of winter, while those in the Southern Hemisphere can enjoy a lazy laidback summer. A few new critters can be found, and a few events can be celebrated, but January is a particularly cozy month.
Heading into Patch 10.2 and Season 3, Augmentation Evokers received substantial nerfs that looked to reduce their stackability in raid and to alleviate the stranglehold they had as an auto-include in Mythic+ compositions. Did these nerfs accomplish that goal or did they too far (or not far enough)? Our guide writer, Jereico, details the impact of these changes for Augmentation in Season 3 both in Amirdrassil and Mythic+ and how combat log issues make it significantly more difficult to assess the spec. Augmentation Evoker Guide
I'm pretty sure that survival MMO The Day Before had one chance, and it's blown it. The game - which has been marred by repeated controversy despite spending months at the very top echelons of the Steam wishlist charts - launched into early access today, and players are already documenting repeated serious bugs.

A new dicebuilding game is on the way, taking the roguelite framework and applying it in an interesting-looking way by having you place your dice in a grid for synergies and effects. Plus, you're a cute frog that's eating bugs. Big bonus in my opinion.

Around a month later, Colossal Order have issued a developer update, promising to continue working on the game’s performance, bug fixes, and early modding tools. That certainly sounds good, but it also means post-launch content, and possibly the console versions, will arrive later than expected. Colossal Order have provided this updated roadmap.

Lies of P launched back in September and turned out to be a Soulslike favorite amongst critics and fans alike this year – we gave it one of our highest scores of 2023 and you can read about why in Game Informer's Lies of P review. To celebrate the game's reception, director Jiwon Choi released a Director's Letter video earlier this month to tease some images of Lies of P's DLC and reveal details about an upcoming update. A new Alan Wake 2 patch comes with more than 100 fixes, some of which address serious progress-blocking bugs. In one case, Remedy says the Coffee World area from an early chapter of the game is simply "more fun" now.
Alan Wake 2 is already a scary game. Having a guy who looks and sounds like Max Payne coming at you like an aggressive red panda probably isn’t necessary. Luckily, a new update for Alan Wake 2 fixes a T-posing Alex Casey while addressing progression-halting bugs.
Blooper reels are a staple within film and television, but it's uncommon for game developers to share them outside the walls of their studios. However, God of War studio Sony Santa Monica hasn't been shy about revealing various pre-release quirks in their games, and they've released a follow-up to their fan-favorite Midgard Mishaps video from 2018 to celebrate the one-year anniversary of God of War: Ragnarok. In Midgard Mishaps 2, we see a showcase of the bizarre and somewhat creepy-looking bugs that popped up during the production of the massive sequel. We also see a quick look at some never-before-seen footage of the making of some standout moments and how the devs took the stumbles in good fun.
Since its recent launch, Insomniac Games has released a handful of patches for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to iron out lingering bugs and technical issues in the game that players have reported, and the developer has now released another one of those updates, bringing the game up to version 1.001.005.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 hit PlayStation 5 exclusively last month and quickly became Sony's fastest-selling first-party game. We loved the game – read Game Informer's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 review here – but players and critics alike have discovered bugs and issues leading to laughs, in some cases, and progress impediment in other cases. Developer Insomniac Games released a patch last week that addressed a handful of issues and now, it has released a new update that fixes even more bugs and issues.

Two months on from the release of Starfield, players are still waiting for Bethesda to address the numerous bugs which are present. But there's a whole other group of players out there taking matters into their own hands — the team behind the Starfield Community Patch, an ambitious and surprisingly professional taskforce trying to fix the game themselves. The project came under the spotlight about a month before Starfield released. It was wild to think that a group of modders could already be working on a mod for Starfield before it had even released, but there they were — anticipating the Bethesda jank fans have come to expect.

Empire of the Ants is certainly not a game we expected to be announced for the PS5, but now we’ve seen it in action, we’re intrigued. The Microids outing – officially due out in 2024 – promises to take you on an “extraordinary journey through the infinitesimally small” as you “guide your colony towards a brighter future”.
Grotty fantasy Soulslike Lords of the Fallen - which I have been cautiously looking forward to, despite Ed's efforts to temper my expectations - is getting its chainmail-wearing arse kicked by Steam players. It seems to be selling well, squatting at third on the platform's global top seller charts by revenue, but the user review consensus tells a different story. There are 1,320 reviews at the time of writing, and they are Mostly Negative, which is quite the showing for a game's first day on sale.
When I reviewed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor back in April, I gave it a 9 after playing through its campaign on PlayStation 5 without major issues… only to wake up the next day to hear horror stories of the PC version performing terribly. (This gave me flashbacks to when the same thing happened with Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015). The same month, Luke Reilly had to hit Redfall hard in his review with a score of 4 after numerous bugs drained the lifeblood out of what was already not a great time. At a glance, this certainly could give the appearance of reviewers being inconsistent: why does one game with a reputation for bugs get raked over the coals while another “gets a pass?” Like so many other things it’s not nearly that simple, and to a large extent there is no one-size-fits-all solution for game critics to employ when it comes to something as notoriously slippery as bugs – but we do our best anyway.
After the release of Conqueror of Jiangdong, Koei Tecmo’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has received a new update to fix various issues. These include a bug where the Martial Arts level of owned weapons was set to level 1 instead of zero when unlocking “Upgrade Martial Arts.” The Martial Arts level won’t decrease following the update, so don’t worry.
Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore, the hardcore indie game by Gellyberry Studios, has been on a transformative journey since its release on May 1st, 2023. While the initial days post-launch were marred by challenges like server lags and a plethora of bugs, the developers have put forth the effort to fix the game by proactively addressing these issues through regular updates and patches, and new features such as the inclusion of housing.
New World has been having a week thanks to the launch of its first paid expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth. However, as rising player counts have caused queues to return, Amazon has needed to spin up even more servers to combat the issue.
Valve have released a small Counter-Strike 2 update that, amongst other things, stops mud slowing you down and stops incendiary grenades forming fiery rings in mid-air, like excitable kids with sparklers. There are also fixes for a shader compilation bug that may, nonetheless, still exist for AMD GPUs when playing this latest iteration of the developer's free-to-play team and objective-based shooter. Many of the larger issues returning players have, such as the absence of Mac support, are yet to be addressed.
Back in the 90s tech was at a crossroads, best exemplified by the rivalry of Duke Nukem 3D and Quake. On the one hand Quake was clearly technologically superior, with full 3D environments and polygonal monsters, but the problem with pushing tech as hard as it did was that the level of environmental interactivity ended up being almost nonexistent. Duke Nukem 3D, on the other hand, used 3D sprites for its character models and a good amount of scenery but had a big fat bag of tricks to pull from, allowing buildings to collapse and billiard balls to ricochet on a pool table. Both games had their fans and the bickering as to which was better was endless, but Duke’s intricate levels filled with environmental set-pieces left a lasting impression even if the main character’s charm rotted away over the intervening decades. The Last Exterminator is a love-letter to Duke Nukem 3D’s style, and the first-level demo is a destructive sprint through a city block the blond buzzcut hero would have been happy to stomp through.
With the one-two punch of Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077 has received some major updates in recent days, and though CD Projekt RED has stressed a few times that they were the final big updates for the game, the developer does still have some smaller patches it wants to push out to iron out some of the action RPG’s remaining issues.
More Cyberpunk 2077 patch notes are on their way, developer CD Projekt Red announces. Following the arrival of the massive Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 patch overhauling many of the game’s systems, and the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC, Cyberpunk 2077 patch 2.01 is set to rectify some of the more common and troublesome issues found in the update.
Even before release, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty was confident Starfield would be the least buggy Bethesda game at launch. That proved to be the case, with most reviewers (including our own Francesco) praising it as the most polished Bethesda game released in recent years.
As gamers have been reminded time and time again over the last several years, the bug testing phase of a video game’s development is arguably one of the most important things that has to be done well, or else the game will be incredibly problematic at launch. We can all think of recent titles in the last year or two that have suffered heavily because the game was rushed to release instead of spending more time in QA. With bigger titles like Starfield, the QA process is even MORE intensive because the developers have more to deal with regarding characters, worlds, vehicles, etc.
Starfield is a sprawling RPG that promises cosmic awe, mysteries of the universe, and a vast galaxy to explore. Even though its narrative and scope are very large and philosophically profound, I find myself instead tickled by many of the small details and silly moments in Starfield. Bethesda RPGs have a certain jankiness to them that persists throughout all their titles, and Starfield is no exception.
From Oblivion to Skyrim, Fallout 3 to Fallout 4, Bethesda games and bugs go hand in hand. It’s become, essentially, part of the charm. Watching Deathclaws rocket into space, putting buckets on people’s heads to steal their gold – who doesn’t have fond memories of Bethesda bugs? Starfield, however, seems comparatively slick. Despite the size of the Settled Systems, the new world built by Todd Howard and company rarely presents any big bugs or graphical errors. Nevertheless, the ongoing community Starfield patch, which aims to remove any and all issues from the RPG, has identified a considerable 249 separate potential problems. From ships to companions and NPCs, there’s a pretty long hit list of Starfield bugs.
Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield has received a new update. It’s small but focuses on fixing major performance issues, bugs and more. These include characters not appearing in their proper locations (which may address your crew members materializing on the outside of your ship).
October marks the start of the spooky season in, with major events and new critters to catch. Aside from attending a big Halloween party, players can also catch lots of new critters on land, in the water, and beneath the waves. With the seasons changing, October is a great month for critter collectors and social butterflies alike.
Destiny 2 players – and its development team – have had it tough this week. Not only has the sci-fi shooter endured DDoS attacks that have taken the game down for hours at a time, but players have continued to experience connection errors and strange bugs and glitches over the weekend, too.
Even in the pre-release review period for Armored Core 6, I didn’t encounter any major bugs. That’s kind of rare in this current AAA landscape, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist! Thankfully, From Software is planning on swiftly addressing some snafus with a variety of patches, and we’re already three updates in at this point.
As promised, Larian Studios has released Baldur's Gate 3 patch 3, sized around 4.9GB on Steam. Earlier today, the developer told fans the new update would include the so-called Magic Mirror, a new feature that allows players to limitlessly change their appearance, albeit with some restrictions (no body type and race or subrace changes, plus Origin characters, full Illithids and hirelings cannot use the Magic Mirror).
Cyberpunk 2077 bugs affecting GOG and mouse and keyboard users are reported ahead of the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC. The problems relate to in-game prompts appearing incorrectly, and rewards and cross progression when playing Cyberpunk 2077 through CDPR’s own GOG platform. Nevertheless, CD Projekt Red offers fixes for both issues, so if you’re experiencing any problems and want CP 2077 to run smoothly as possible before jumping into the Idris Elba-helmed Phantom Liberty, here’s what you need to do.

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon has been out for a couple of weeks now, and some players have already seen the ending and the endings after that one, too. We enjoyed the game, giving it an 8.25 out of 10 – you can read our review here. If you haven’t jumped into From Software’s latest action title yet, though, you might be in luck because a new patch that's now live buffs various weapons and adjusts some boss attacks.

Madden has a bug problem, and despite a patch that addressed several stability issues in late August and another that released on September 1st, there’s still a lot wrong with EA’s football sim – and some of it stems from last year’s release.
While bugs in new games are far from uncommon, Bethesda Game Studios has a certain reputation for them - especially for those that happen to be both harmless and hilarious (there are more than a few compilations of the funniest Skyrim bugs out there). Starfield, while being less buggy than other Bethesda releases, most certainly still has a few, and a lot of them are predictably absurd.
If you’re looking to end your season of TV with a bang, you might as well go biblical with it.
Intel's support for Starfield has been rocky but the latest Arc Game-On drivers resolve most of the glaring issues, offering a better experience to gamers.

With Starfield's long-awaited launch upon us, Bethesda has been doing the media rounds to chat about the upcoming RPG. The studio has released a few buggy games in its history, so a question was eventually raised about the bug in the room – a timely subject with Starfield already releasing via pre-order early access.
Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout are known for being epic open world RPGs and for being a bit buggy, but these smaller issues in Starfield also allowed the game to be so grand according to one developer.

The sale will continue for 35 days, with bundles ranging in price from $29.99 to $419.99. There's a whole lot of variety in what you can pick up too, with a bunch of uniquely themed redesigns.
Consistent with the spirit of the game, Baldur’s Gate 3’s first “major” patch notes are too large to even fit into Steam’s usual text character limit. Developer Larian instead published a portion of the patch details on a Steam blog and the rest on their forums, which were briefly down - probably either due to an online traffic jam or just, again, the patch’s sheer size. Regardless, we have well over three thousand words worth of details on today’s patch, which addresses around one thousand bugs and graces us with “Short King Summer” before it’s too late. But beware: there are some spoilers in the patch notes.
