After viewing the recent trailer for the latest Ghostbusters feature, titled Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the only thought that crossed my mind was: Now is the time to go full-on animated series. Like, The Real Ghostbusters circa 1986.

Left-to-right scrolling, beat ’em-up games were a staple in the arcade landscape of the 80s and 90s. Titles like Double Dragon, Cadillac and Dinosaurs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Golden Axe were monster hits and have become classics in the beat ’em-up genre, but one in particular deserves a next-gen reboot.

The newly announced PS5 redesign — which everyone is casually referring to as the 'Slim' — will not ship with a vertical stand, it seems. Samsung and TSMC have yet to see yield improvements in their respective 3nm technologies. For those of us old enough to remember, Super Smash Bros first came to the Nintendo 64 back in 1999.  At the time, it was revolutionary because it combined 12 characters from 9 different Nintendo franchises for a new fighting game experience.  It featured a great commercial with different Nintendo characters frolicking in a meadow until they started beating each other up.  This ushered in a whole new franchise for Nintendo that nowadays draws on all of their IPs and even some 3rd party IPs like Street Fighter and Metal Gear Solid .

While is certainly one of the series' more innovative titles, it still inherits a great deal of DNA from its predecessors. Some degree of reinvention is practically expected of every game developed by Nintendo, but is a series especially susceptible to recycled elements. This is clearly by design, since each game has familiar yet refurbished locations and recurring characters of even minor importance. Familiarity is a hallmark of, even as games like experiment with motion controls, or adds a third dimension to the series' 2D roots. Ever since the series entered the 3D era, however, its combat has been largely stagnant.

Not long ago it was quietly announced that The Division 3 was in the works at Ubisoft. I don’t think many fans of the series were surprised, seeing as how The Division 2 has been rehashing old seasons as the wind down supporting it as a live service. The Division 3 will certainly be a welcome inclusion, but with two other The Division titles also on the horizon, the third iteration of the series will need to make some hefty changes, especially if it intends to compete with many of the other looter shooters that have risen in popularity.

There seems to be a trend around the gaming world where popular franchises explore different demographics with spinoff titles. It’s no secret that the market for visual novels and dating sims is gaining steam, with gamers looking for a more meaningful way to connect with their favorite characters. While most would dismiss this as silly fanservice, there’s no doubt the team over at NetherRealm Studios would profit from a potential Mortal Kombat dating sim spinoff. It’s only a matter of how far they’re willing to go with it, and judging from the controversial introduction of the series back in the day, that shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

Overwatch 2’s Invasion event, which goes live today, is the game’s biggest update since penciling in the “2” in October of last year. 0One of the main reasons that players stick with Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition is because publisher Wizards of the Coast is always trying new things — new locations and new kinds of adventures, to be sure, but also new character classes, spells, and magical items. Along with that evolution comes a natural growth in the game’s complexity. Characters of the Artificer class, for instance, released in 2019, can craft their own magic items pretty much overnight. In addition to being able to hold their own in combat, they can also cast spells, make magical hand grenades, and design small mechanical creatures to do their bidding. That makes the Artificer a lot more challenging to run than the stock Fighter in the original Player’s Handbook (2014).

Apple Inc.'s third straight quarter of declining revenue is a symptom of the fact that while people love to use the company's iPhones, they are these days feeling less pressed to buy a new one. If Apple wants to turn that around, bucking an industry-wide slump, the next iteration of its most popular product, which will be iPhone 15, needs to be a return to the days when owning the latest iPhone felt like a major upgrade. 

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now on PC via Steam and GOG. Even writing these words feels a bit surreal for someone who played the sacred original titles when they came out. They were a revelation at the time and opened the heart's way to a lifelong passion for the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game and the Faerûn setting.

We’re still digging into Baldur’s Gate 3 — and even in its Early-Access form, there’s a lot here. It’s a game anyone can pick up and play, but it’s also packed with details and systems straight out of Dungeons & Dragons.

The Payday 3 Steam page has been updated to show that the upcoming FPS game from Deep Silver and Starbreeze will incorporate Denuvo Anti-Tamper. For as unfathomably popular Genshin Impact has been all these years, you could argue it's always had things a bit easy. There is nothing else quite like it on consoles, and consistent content updates along with new waifus to metaphorically marry every other month have turned a lot of fans' free time into a second job. With Blue Protocol, though, there's finally a compelling alternative on PS5. From Bandai Namco and Amazon Games, the 2024 title looks primed to steal at least some of that audience with a new, colourful world and many more anime fighters to level up. We played 45 minutes of the online RPG at a preview event to see what's what, and found an experience shaping up to be compelling competition for the HoYoverse mega-hit.

Foldable smartphones are having a moment of their own. Perhaps, the year itself is theirs for the taking. Yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 were unveiled by the company at its Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, making it the fifth company after Oppo, Honor, Google, and Motorola to launch a foldable smartphone in just 2023. And that is because the foldable technology is finally starting to come together. The displays are getting more durable, the hinges better, and the optimization is on the way up too. And nobody wants to miss out on the biggest innovation in smartphones since bezel-less display. Except Apple. However, it is about time Apple should really get on this bandwagon and bring in an iPhone Fold. Will it happen? Do note that Apple is good at ignoring all that is going around it - just see how it is treating all the hype around AI. Having said that, it does not mean Apple should shun the foldables forever.
