The second instalment of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is set to launch soon, but there are, of course, plenty of other fan-favourite instalments in the long-running series that many have been hoping to see remade in similar fashion. Final Fantasy 6 in particular has been heavily demanded by series fans- though according to Yoshinori Kitase – producer on the FF7 Remake trilogy and co-director of the original Final Fantasy 6 – developing a remake series for the SNES classic would be an even more herculean task than developing the FF7 Remake trilogy.

Nothing says “I’m a huge fan of this popular movie!” quite like the theater-exclusive popcorn bucket that you can purchase at the concession stand. The Wonkabucket came in the shape of the chocolatier’s iconic hat, while Barbie’s was naturally a pink convertible. These things can get kinda pricey, but when you’re a hardcore fan, you do what you must.

I wasn't as sold on Half Mermaid's Immortality as the internet at large, but I'll give Sam Barlow as much rope for his FMV games as anyone else. He recently Xeeted about the studio's upcoming projects C and D, described as "next level FMV, hold onto your seats", and "reinventing 3rd person horror again", respectively. The games now have heavily redacted Steam pages, and Barlow revealed a few more details on Kinda Funny Games (helpfully transcribed a bit by VGC if you can't be arsed watching).

Palworld – the brand new, sort-of-Pokémon, open-world, third-person, shooting, action adventure, crafting, survival, animal collecting, and other popular buzzwords – game launched on Steam and Xbox on January 19. It immediately blew up, selling six million copies in four days and instantly becoming a force to be reckoned with while simultaneously opening the floodgates of discourse surrounding intellectual property theft in video games. Since being revealed two years ago, Palworld – created by a developer named Pocketpair – has been commonly referred to as “Pokémon with guns” by anyone who has looked at it for more than three seconds. But as people dig deeper, they are discovering that Palworld is both a game that does enough to distance itself from Pokémon mechanically while also being a little too close for comfort to Pokémon artistically. So let’s dig into this controversy and figure out exactly what’s happening with Palworld.
A new report claims that the full title of DS2 is, in fact, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. I would not believe it if not for the fact that we're talking about a Hideo Kojima game here, and the name seems to be a reference to a 64-year-old film.

These days, a “water cooler” conversation can flare up and burn out in days. It’s rare to see any movie or TV show still spark any kind of unifying online discussion more than a week after its debut on a new platform, or after the final episode airs. For every Barbie or Oppenheimer or Barbenheimer, where critics, fans, reactors, streamers, podcasters, and others keep talking about the project for months after its debut, there are dozens of Netflix shows where the conversation stops after release weekend, or would-be blockbusters that make some money at the box office, but that viewers seem to have forgotten before the final credit rolls.
French games firm Focus Entertainment is set to rebrand to Pullup Entertainment later this year.
Supermarkets are missing out on untapped revenue from selling food that's about to expire, as store workers waste hours searching for short-dated products and discounting them by hand. At least that's the pitch from Too Good To Go, an eight-year-old Danish company that cut its teeth addressing restaurant food waste and is now turning to grocery stores' soon-to-expire goods. Starting this month, TGTG is selling an artificial-intelligence-powered solution that assists supermarkets with expiration dates, which are a major pain point for retail food waste. The company will begin its global rollout with the international supermarket chain SPAR.

They've published a new trailer to mark the occasion, in which a group of the game's quarantine zone mercenaries squat around a campfire, supping mugs of what probably isn't cocoa, and listening to guitar music. It strikes a fitting note of world-weariness.

Set in 1918, it puts you in charge of a field hospital in northern France, a few minutes drive from the frontline. Here’s how all that works: casualties arrive from the trenches by ambulance or stretcher, and are carried by your medics to a clearing station, where nurses look after them before they’re seen by a doctor. Patients may be lightly or severely injured, but they will all eventually die if they’re left unattended.

Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Tekken 8 to get us up to speed on what has happened in the series so far. It is a fairly standard marketing beat, with others such as Insomniac and Nintendo doing the same thing for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom respectively. But what Insomniac and Nintendo didn't have (or who they didn't have) was Succession's Brian Cox to talk us through the story so far.

I remember when The Old World, long one of Games Workshop’s most interesting creations, died in 2015. Inspired by the dashing tin soldiers used to recreate battles from the era of Napoleon, the sword-and-sorcery setting was home to the British company’s flagship Warhammer Fantasy Battle game for decades. But that game and nearly a dozen other tabletop products — beloved spinoff titles like Warhammer Quest, Man O’ War, and even cult classic Mordheim — simply ceased to be relevant after an in-fiction apocalypse called the End Times brought about the Age of Sigmar. Now, nearly a decade later, the classic setting is back with a new game called Warhammer: The Old World, arriving in stores later this month.

To my mind, the aesthetic of Games Workshop's original tabletop wargame Warhammer Fantasy Battle can be summed best by a Monty Python quote. It's the bit in Holy Grail where a commoner says he can tell Arthur must be a king because «he hasn't got shit all over him.»

Wolverine and Colossus first performed their signature 'Fastball Special' move - in which Colossus hurls Wolverine at a target with his claws unsheathed - all the way back in 1976's Uncanny X-Men #100. Now, almost 50 years later in January 3's Fall of the House of X #1, they've innovated a brutal new twist on their classic combo maneuver.
Gloriously grim stealth game A Plague Tale: Innocence - you know, that game with the rats - is currently free to keep over on the Epic Games Store. If you’ve somehow missed it before now, it’s well worth playing in my opinion - especially for the low price of nothing.
